①Hong Kong people, like Marco Kwok, become guides for visitors from different countries because of the Hong Kong Pals program. This program, run by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (旅 游 发 展 局 ), lets volunteers show tourists special places in the city. Kwok enjoys being a cultural volunteer, giving tourists important information and learning about their backgrounds. 

②Since 2009, the Hong Kong Pals program has gathered (聚集) over 100 warm-hearted people from different backgrounds. They show visitors Hong Kong's lifestyle, traditions, and local knowledge, making tourists feel comfortable. Agnes Tam, who used to work at a big company (公司), helped an old man remember his childhood by old photos. Volunteering makes her feel more satisfied and happy. Lee Ka-lun, a PhD student, joined to show Hong Kong's cultural and artistic beauty. 

③Many Hong Kong Pals also admire their own city more by volunteering. While preparing for the Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance, civil servant (公务员) Agnes Lo learned about the rich history behind the tradition. She and other volunteers like Kwok, Tam, and Lee worked together, sharing, learning, and helping the city. Over 14 years, they have given over 70, 000 hours of their time. 

④Last year, the volunteers and the board's team helped about 2 million tourists, answering over 2. 3 million questions. Hong Kong's tourism is becoming livelier, with people coming for sports, tennis, shopping, and food. But the city remains friendly. With good training, volunteers understand better about Hong Kong's tourism and know how to welcome visitors, telling a great story about Hong Kong to the world. 

⑤The Hong Kong Pals program is getting stronger, with more people joining in than ever, helping to improve tourism in the city. 

I always remember a famous saying, "Books are the ladder (阶梯) of human progress. " Over the years, reading has become an important part of my life. I like reading because it has not only enriched my mind but also provided spiritual support for my growth. 

Take my favorite book, Wonder, for example. It tells the story of August, a 10-year-old boy. 

August is a common boy in many ways; he likes riding a bike and playing video games. But

August was born with facial deformities (面部畸形). Until August turned 10, his mother taught him at home, but the family finally decided it was time for him to start school. 

August's first year at school was terrible. Most people were afraid of him, so they kept away from him. But he never gave up on himself or lost hope. During that hard time, a girl named

Summer reached out to him and wanted to be his friend, which was when August first felt kindness from friends. 

Then a dramatic event at a school camp changed everything. People discovered how brave he was and how hard it was for him to get along with others, leading them to understand him better. 

Kindness is the main theme in Wonder. It helps me realize that a small, simple act of kindness can make a big difference and that we have the ability to choose kindness. From this book, I have also learned to face differences in people. We'd know that no one is common and that everyone is supposed to receive a standing ovation (鼓掌) at least once in their lives. 

Books like this make me strongly believe that reading can truly change how people think about life. So, I hope you can find a book that brightens your day, and try to make reading a part of your life. 

Every year, Natural History Museum in London holds a competition for the Wildlife

Photographer(摄影师) of the Year. There's a competition for people under 18. It is known as

the "Young Wildlife Photographer of the Year". The pictures are judged (评审) in three age

groups:10 and under, 11-14, and 15-17. Here are some of this year's best pictures and the stories

behind them. Let's have a look!

Ages 10 and under

Winner: Alberto Roman Gomez, Spain

Work: Free as a Bird

Alberto was sitting in his father's car when he saw this young

stonechat (野 鸽 ). Stonechats like open areas. There they can sit

up high and keep an eye out for food. Alberto had to work hard to

take the picture, as the bird was so busy flying off to eat. 

Ages 11-14

Winner: Parham Pourahmad, USA

Work: An Evening Meal

Parham has a habit of visiting the parks near his home. He likes

showing wildlife in busy cities. The picture shows a Cooper's

hawk (氏鹰) eating a squirrel (松鼠). He took this picture in a

nearby park just as the sun was setting.

This is what Alexis saw while walking in the forest. On the left

is a springtail (跳虫). It's only about 2 millimetres (毫米) long, 

but it can jump a long way. On the right is a slimemold (黏

菌). They both help break down things like trees and leaves.

My New Term Plans

Hi, everyone! When I started my journey in junior high, I learned a lot. 

Plants means a lot to us. We use plants for , shelter (居所), clothing, medicines and even the air to breathe. 

Plants keep our air and water clean. The green leaf collect  and carbon dioxide during the day. The stem take in the water. At the same time, the plants sugar and oxygen that is part of the air we breathe.

Plants are also part of the water cycle. The trees in a rainforest can make own rain. The water rises up from the roots to the leaves, and come  the air through the leaves. The clouds is made and it then rains on the forest.

Plants give us things to eat. Wheat（小麦）, and rice are all come from plants. Many people are  some fruits and vegetables to eat in the gardens at home. That is also a way of cutting down the , because the big cars do not need to send so much food to the stores.

There are millions of plants in  world. Not everyone knows about the importance of them, they influence us in many ways. we should try our best to protect them.

Chinese paper-cutting or Jianzhi, is a kind of folk art. People usually use scissors (剪刀) or knives to cut paper. It has a long history of over 1,500 years. Let's learn something about paper-cutting.

Wonderful meanings 

Paper-cutting has some wonderful meanings. Some paper-cuttings mean happiness and good luck. At the Spring Festival, people paste (粘贴) Fu on doors or windows. At a wedding (婚礼), people paste Xi.

Why is it red?

In China, people always love red. In our mind, red is hope and life, so red is our favourite. We can see red everywhere in China. The walls of old palaces are red. Lanterns are red. Weddings are always full of red things, too.

Black paper-cuttings in Shanzhou

Many of the paper-cuttings are red, but paper-cuttings in Shanzhou, Henan province are black. Black is the best colour there. Shanzhou is a dry place. People make black paper-cuttings and wish for rain.

Now, paper-cutting gets into many schools. Students can learn how to make paper-cuttings at school. Li Jie, a middle school student, says, "It's really wonderful to change paper into different kinds of pictures, such as flowers and animals. We enjoy it."

Planting trees is important in the world. Today, many countries have such a holiday. In China, National Tree Planting Day is on March 12th. It is a day related (有关系的) to Sun Yat-sen. Sun Yat-sen was a great person in China. But many people don't know that Sun Yat-sen helped to save trees.

National Tree Planting Day in China started in1915. From 1916 to 1928, National Tree Planting Day was celebrated on the Chinese Qingming Festival each year. Sun Yat-sen asked people to stop cutting down trees in his books. He planted trees himself with many people. Sun Yat-sen died on March 12th, 1925.

Planting trees is good for our Earth. They can make the world beautiful. Trees give us forests, stop soil (土壤) from losing and protect farmland. They can make the Earth a good place for us to live on.

Without trees, our lives will be difficult. For example, we can't get fruit and many other things without trees. So it's important for everyone to plant more trees on National Tree Planting Day.

There is a small village in Africa. Many families here don't have much food to eat. Judy is a 7-year-old student in the village. She takes a lunchbox and eats lunch at school every day. But she has only one kind of food in the box. Without eating different kinds of vegetables and fruit every day, Judy is very thin and not healthy, Many children in the school are just like Judy.

Mr. Brown is a teacher at the school. He is sorry for the students and he wants to do something to help them. So he comes up with an idea. He starts a "Lunchbox Club" at school. At lunchtime, students sit around a big table and they share the food in their lunchboxes. "I share my potatoes. Nick shares his carrots. Caroline shares her rice. Sharing makes us have different food. That's great!" Judy says.
