The Hukou Waterfall is a famous natural wonder located between Shanxi and Shaanxi provinces. It is the largest yellow waterfall in the world and the second largest waterfall in China.

Its name, "Hukou", perfectly describes how the wide river suddenly narrows (变窄) and then rushes down. Because of its special location, the area around Hukou has long been an important place for trade and communication among different parts of our country.

The Hukou Waterfall has long played an important role in the history of the Yellow River. The Yellow River is also called China's "Mother River" because it has provided what nearby people need to live: water for life, land for food, and a waterway for transportation.

The scenery of the Hukou changes from spring to winter. From the Shaanxi side, you can get a greater view of how wide the waterfall is. From the Shanxi side, you are closer to the water and can see it falling into the deep valley below. If you want to take the best photos, go to the Shaanxi side in the afternoon. At that time, the sunlight makes the waterfall look even more beautiful.

You may hear about floods, but do you know what to do before, during and after a flood?

 All family members should know the nearest safe place. You can go to a high building or a hill. Prepare enough food, water, warm clothes and a flashlight. Remember useful telephone numbers (119, 120, etc.). Never live in low-lying areas or near rivers if possible.

It is important for each of you to stay calm. If you are indoors, quickly move to the upper floors of the building. Stay away from windows, doors and walls.  Do not touch electrical equipment (设备) with wet hands. If you are outdoors, move to high ground as soon as possible. Stay away from rivers, bridges, low-lying roads and flooded areas. Do not walk or drive through deep water.

After a flood.

Once the water has gone down, do not go back to your home at once.  Check around you and help the people who are in trouble. If your house is badly damaged, you should leave it. Be careful of broken glass and dirty water. Do not drink unboiled water.

On a cold and sunny Wednesday morning in Beijing, Xu Wei, a blind man, went to a community center to "watch" a film.

The experience inside the screening room was different from a common one. During quiet moments in the films, a friendly voice described everything happening on screen—the beautiful scenery, the characters' actions, and even their facial expressions.

Guangming Cinema created this special film with the help of a special organization. This organization is run by volunteers and it focuses on making films for blind people for free. With over 17 million people with vision problems in China, the work is very important.

What audiences experience at Guangming Cinema might look simple, but the work behind it is difficult.

To make a 90-minute film, the volunteers watch it ten times, carefully studying every part of the film. Then they write a narration script (旁白脚本), usually 20000 to 30000 words in total. Next, three students, two teachers, and one blind person work together for 28 days to bring the film to life. So far, Guangming Cinema has already made over 800 films!

Over the years, the volunteers have worked closely with local disability organizations and schools. People with vision problems can see many of the films on TV and online at no cost. More importantly, they have more topics to talk about and are living a more colourful life.

In the future, the volunteers hope to provide more help for people with different disabilities to enjoy films, museums, and other cultural activities.

American Evan Kail is respected by people around the world. He donated historical photos to prove Japanese soldiers' cruel (残忍的) acts in World War II. On March 15, 2026, he said he would live in Tianjin. This decision has drawn worldwide attention as an example of China-US people-to-people friendship.

Evan Kail has been famous in China since 2022. He ran a shop in the US and got a very valuable photo album (相册) which showed the cruelty of Japanese soldiers in World War II. Some people wanted to buy it at a high price, and others even threatened (恐吓) him online. But he refused the money. He gave the album to the Chinese Consulate (领事馆) in Chicago instead. He thought historical truth should not be kept secret or sold. Finally, he got diplomatic porcelain (国礼瓷) to thank him for his courage and honesty.

Kail's friendship with China grew during his visit in 2024. His 90-day trip took him to over 40 cities including Beijing, Nanjing and Harbin. In early 2025, he appeared at the CCTV Spring Festival Gala, speaking clear Chinese and winning great popularity.

Kail's choice is meaningful. This shows that personal courage can protect historical truth around the world. He shows the world a real and friendly China. His story tells us that kindness and honesty can build long-lasting friendships between different cultures.

Chopsticks, known as "kuaizi" in Chinese, are a pair of small, equal-length (长度相同) sticks used mainly in many Asian countries for eating.

They are usually made of wood, bamboo, or even metal (金属). A pair of bronze (青铜的) chopsticks was discovered in the Ruins of Yin (殷墟), dating back to nearly 1300 B    C. Since then, chopsticks have become a symbol of Asian cooking and cultural practices, more than just a tool for eating.

In China, chopsticks are 22 to 25 cm long and rectangular (矩形的) in shape. This design holds a symbolic meaning: the round end stands for the heavens, while the square end stands for the earth. This shows the ancient Chinese thought on keeping balance between the heavens and earth.

Using chopsticks correctly means more than just a skill. First, chopsticks should not be used to move bowls or plates. Second, do not stick chopsticks into a bowl of rice or other food. Besides, use serving chopsticks to get food from shared dishes!

Nowadays, chopsticks have gone beyond their traditional use as dining tools. Beautiful chopsticks are often given as gifts. Moreover, using chopsticks can help improve memory and finger dexterity.

Recently, many students have fallen in love with reading. Here are the book reports from four students about the books they have read.

"If you were a drop of water, would you help water the fields? If you were a ray of sunshine, would you light up the dark? If you were a grain of rice, would you feed a life?" These words are from Lei Feng's 1 .

Lei Feng was born into a poor family in Changsha, Hunan Province in 1940. He became an orphan (孤儿) at the age of seven, but he never2 and kept studying. After 3 school in 1956, he started to work.

Choose eco-friendly food. The food we eat influences the environment. For example, food grown nearby doesn't need to travel far, so it causes less air pollution. Besides, natural farming avoids using chemicals that are bad for plants and animals. Food grown this way is also good for people's health.

Spend your money wisely. First, avoid buying things with too much packaging. The packaging creates trash and hurts the environment. Second, you can try to buy second-hand things instead of buying new ones. Remember not to buy things you don't need. When you really want to buy something, check online resale shops or borrow one from your family or friends.

What's more, keeping green travel is also important. You can walk or ride a bike to work. If the place you want to go is too far for a daily bicycle, you can take public transport.

How time flies! Four years ago, I was so disappointed at  (be) too short and failing to get on the basketball team. I cried  (I) alone for long. Basketball was really a big deal for me. But  (thing) changed soon after that.

China has once again set a world record by opening the new Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge in Guizhou. It is 625 meters high above the Beipan River, making it the tallest bridge in the world.

Guizhou is famous for its special landscape: high mountains, deep and exciting valleys as well as many different rocks. Many people fall in love with its wonderful natural beauty after travelling in Guizhou. Every year, many visitors come to enjoy the striking scenery. But travelling around the area is difficult. The Huajiang Grand Canyon is so deep and long that people call it the "Earth's Crack".

On September 28, the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge was opened to traffic. The bridge is 2.89 kilometers long in total, and its central part is about 1.42 kilometers. It is part of the S57 highway. In the past, driving across the mountains took at least 70 minutes. Now the same trip takes just over one minute.

But the bridge's builders are hoping to slow some traffic down. They want to turn the bridge into a tourist spot. There is a special glass walkway which allows visitors to look down at the river deep in the valley below.

Great changes have taken place in Guizhou's transportation. In the 1980s, there were fewer than 3,000 bridges. Now Guizhou has more than 32,000 bridges, and nearly half of the world's 100 tallest bridges are in Guizhou.

One recent day at noon, I opened my eyes and found myself standing outside my apartment with confusion. Everything looked familiar, but something seemed wrong: The keyhole in the door was gone. I expected my wife or daughters to open the door.

"Coming!" a voice replied. It sounded like mine, but much older. The door was open. Here was a robot. I looked around the apartment carefully.

Soon, an old man walked out. He must be me at 63. He looked healthy and introduced his robot, Wu BOT. I was really amazed to know that this robot once showed kung fu in 2026. Just then, a drone came and sent a birthday gift for my wife, who was travelling on Mount Lu.

At that time, I felt lonely, although I was told that I could talk to Wu BOT. I thought it was not the same. How sad I was!

Suddenly, the alarm clock was ringing. In a minute, I woke up from a dream on a park bench. Birds were singing, children were laughing, and elderly couples were taking a slow walk after lunch. There were no robots or drones. It felt good to be back in the human age.

Huang Wenxiu was born in 1989 into a poor family in Guangxi. With the help of government aid (资助), she completed her university education. In 2016, she made a big decision  (return) to her poor hometown to fight poverty, while most of her classmates chose to stay in big cities.

What happens when school rules fail to protect the weak? A new NETFLIX K-drama called The Iron Fist Education (《铁拳教育》) has become a global hit since its release in June 2026. It tells the story of a fictional government unit that uses special authority (权力) to handle school violence—even allowing teachers to use physical force when necessary.

The drama has struck a chord (共鸣) with audiences worldwide, especially teachers. Many say they feel "deeply satisfied" watching bullies (霸凌者) finally get punished. Some have even called it "electronic blood pressure medication"—a playful way of saying it helps release their stress and anger.

However, not everyone is cheering. Critics argue that the drama oversimplifies a complex problem. "Real school violence (暴力) cannot be solved by fists alone," one expert said. "If we teach students that violence is an acceptable answer, we are creating new problems." Others worry that the extreme methods shown in the drama could set a bad example for young viewers.

Interestingly, the drama itself is aware of this danger. One key character is Kim Soo-kyum, a former bully victim who, after years of suffering, kills his tormentors (施暴者) in a fit of rage. Later, he is caught and sentenced to death. In a heartbreaking scene, he asks the agent, "Please don't let anyone else become like me." This character serves as a warning—not a hero. His story shows that violence may feel satisfying in the moment, but it never leads to a happy ending.

The debate around The Iron Fist Education reflects a real-world problem that many countries face: How can we protect victims without encouraging more violence? The drama does not offer an easy answer, but it forces us to ask the right questions. Perhaps that is exactly what good art should do—not provide solutions, but start conversations.
