A Helper at Home

Sam is a little boy. He is a student from America. He knows nothing is  (bad) than feeling lonely. So he decides  (help) lonely kids make friends.  does he do that?

He runs a programme at school. He calls it the Buddy Bench (伙伴长椅). Anyone can sit on the "buddy bench"  he/she feels lonely. The bench brings kids together and helps many  (child) find their new friends. 

Sam got the idea  accident during the summer vacation in 2017. When he came back to school, he  (tell) the wonderful idea to his teachers  (exciting). "I want to run the programme because there are many kids who need help."

When I was in primary school, doing housework made me feel . I often threw my things on the bed, even on the ground. So our house was usually not  to live in. 

One day, when my mother went home after work, she noticed a lot of  in my room. She was not surprised but still very angry. She told me  that I must do some housework. But I thought doing housework was what parents should do. It was unfair.

Although I was unhappy, I  to follow my mother's words and did some housework. After a few months, I finally understood that it was harder than I expected. , my parents needed to  after a day's work. So I began to  some easy chores like cleaning my bedroom. This added pleasure to their busy life.

My family had never done anything different before. So when Aunt Jen invited us to her 1 spring farm party, I was really excited. I decided to make the day special, so I baked cupcakes for the party and decorated them to look like soft sheep by using some 2 .

Talk to people you disagree with

Everyone sometimes has disagreements with friends or family members. For example, you might not agree about what game to play or which restaurant makes the best pizza.  Disagreements are uncomfortable. There are some steps you can take to make the conversation meaningful. Here is how. 

 Let them know that you're paying attention to them by listening carefully with interest. Another way to show that you're listening is by asking questions or repeating what they said. You can start by saying, "OK. I understand you. You are saying…"

When someone has an opinion you don't agree with, don't pay too much attention to it. Avoid using impolite adjectives, like "stupid" "foolish" or "silly". Instead, focus on speaking calmly (沉着地). For example, you may begin with "I feel" or "I see this in another way". 

If you have a strong opinion, it's better to stick to the facts instead of feelings.  Then relax your shoulders and speak in a calm voice. If you are stopped by some person, you can remind the person that it's your turn to speak. Then give him another chance to speak later. 

If you find that you can't change the other person's mind, and they may not change yours. Still, look for the points you agree on.  In the end, it's worth the effort because healthy communication builds strong relationships and communities.
