One day, Mr Micawber invited David to his small home. The room was crowded with furniture, books, and children, but Mr Micaw ber stood proudly in the middle, dressed like a gentleman. He greeted David with a big smile and said, "Welcome, my dear Copperfield! I trust this day will bring good fortune!"

Mrs Micaw ber nodded politely, holding a baby in one arm and a teacup in the other. The children ran around, laughing, while Mr Micawber began one of his famous speeches. 

"My financial situation(财务状况), " he said, "is currently . . . not easy. But I remain confident that something will turn up!"

David tried not to laugh. Mr Micawber always spoke as if he were giving a speech in Parliament. He used long words and dramatic pauses, even when talking about simple things like dinner or rent. 

"I have written a letter to a gentleman, " Mr Micaw ber continued, "who may offer me a position. If he does not, I shall write to another. And another! Until the wheels of fate(命运) turn in my favour."

Mrs Micaw ber added, "We never lose hope. Mr Micawber is a man of great talent. "

David admired their cheerfulness. Even though they had little money and many problems, Mr Micawber never stopped smiling. His belief that"something will turn up" made everyone feel a little better—— even if they weren't sure it was true. 

On April 1, 1957, the BBC played a big joke on its viewers. They showed a short news story on TV about farmers in Switzerland picking spaghetti(意大利细面条) from trees. The video showed smiling people pulling long strands of spaghetti off tree branches and placing them into baskets. The narrator said the spaghetti harvest was very good that year because the weather had been nice and there were no spaghetti bugs. 

At that time, many people in Britain didn't know how spaghetti was made. Some people thought it really did grow on trees! Most families only ate spaghetti from cans, so they believed what they saw on the trusted news show. 

After the story was shown, hundreds of people called the BBC. Some wanted to know if the story was true. Others asked how they could grow their own spaghetti trees. The BBC staff had fun answering. They told people to put some spaghetti in a can of tomato sauce and hope for the best!

The idea for the joke came from a cameraman named Charles de Jaeger. The voice in the video was from Richard Dimbleby, a very serious and respected newsman. Because of his calm voice and the realistic video, many people believed it. 

This joke is now called"The Great Spaghetti Tree Hoax". It is one of the most famous April Fools' Day tricks in history. It made people laugh and also reminded everyone not to believe everything they see on TV— especially on April 1st!

Isaac Newton was a great scientist known for his work in maths, physics, and astronomy. Even great minds aren't safe from making a silly mistake now and then!

One day, Newton was very busy thinking about a hard problem. He was staying at a friend's house in the countryside, a common practice for scholars in search of tranquillity. Like many people at that time, Newton used a small pocket watch for timekeeping. He also had a pet cat and liked simple meals like boiled eggs. 

That afternoon, Newton went to the kitchen to boil an egg for lunch. But his mind was full of ideas. When he reached the stove, he suddenly realized he didn't know how long the egg had been boiling. He looked in his pocket for his watch to check the time. 

To his surprise, the watch was not in his pocket. Then he looked into the pot— and there it was! Newton had put his watch into the boiling water by mistake, thinking it was the egg!

Of course, the watch was damaged. When his friends heard the story, they laughed kindly. Newton was embarrassed(尴尬), but he laughed too. It showed how deeply he could focus on(集中注意力于) his ideas, even forgetting what was in his hand. 

This little story reminds us that even the smartest people can make funny mistakes. Newton may have boiled his watch, but he also changed the way we understand the world.

During this national holiday, Jane  (策划) a trip to Penang with her family.
