Self-reflection (反省) Makes You a Better Learner

Do you ever feel like you are just rushing from one subject to another? When things happen so fast, maybe you can't understand clearly what you are doing or learning.

Self-reflection means slowing down and calming yourself, including calming your mind. By calming down and going slowly, you give your brain a chance to think about what it has received.  Others keep a diary. What's more, taking notes is also OK. Each method works, depending on your own personal learning- You can follow the steps to do self-reflection.

Choose the proper time to do it. School textbooks are divided into units of study. This makes it easier to begin self-reflection.  Sometimes you know the unit is over because there is some kind of test. Use these natural breaks to stop and do self-reflection.

Find a quiet place and take out your reflection diary.  Let your mind think about the notes you have written and make some connections.

 Maybe you learned a new way to work out a math problem, but you're not sure when to use it. Writing down your questions will help you remember to look for answers the next time you are working with the same topic.

Successful students always know self-reflection is important. If you have never taken the time to do self-reflection, try it now.

While writing this book, I once asked an expert how he kept from worrying. He replied, "I have always tried to follow the advice: when you have a lemon, make a lemonade (柠檬汁)."

That is what a wise man does. But the fool does just the opposite. If he finds that life has given him a "lemon", he gives up and says, "I'm beaten. I haven't got a chance." Then he starts to develop a sense of self-pity. But when the wise man is handed a "lemon", he says, "What lesson can I learn from the bad luck? How can I improve my situation? How can I tun this lemon into a lemonade?"

Here is an interesting story of a woman who did just that. Her name is Thelma. "During the war," she told me about her experience, "my husband was sent to an Army training camp near the Mojave Desert. I went there to live with him. But I hated the place. I had never felt so terrible before. My husband was ordered out for training, so I was left alone most of the time. Not a friend to talk to but only the local people who couldn't speak English. The wind never stopped blowing. All the food I ate and the air I breathed were filled with sand, sand, sand! I was so sorry for myself that I wrote to my parents. I said I couldn't stand it one minute longer. My father answered my letter with just two lines - two lines that completely changed my life:

Two men looked out from prison bars (监狱铁窗).

One saw the mud (烂泥)，the other saw stars.

I read those two lines over and over. I was ashamed of myself. I made up my mind I would find out what was good in my present situation. I would look for the stars."

For a long time, clothing has been designed and chosen based or gender (性别). However, in recent years, these gender differences have become less clear.

According toa May report by Bilibili, views of videos about non-gendered fashion went up by 270 percent in 2023. Most of the viewers were born in or after 1995-also known as Generation Z.

Eric Liu, a fashion blogger in Shanghai, is a fan of non-gendered fashion. He told Jing Daily that he often buys from the women's bag section because men don't have many choices for bags. "As a straight man, I don't feel embarrassed about carrying a bag designed for women because no one has pointed that out," Liu said.

As society has become more open, people can choose from a greater number of styles. Women and men share more similar lifestyles these days, which means they need clothing that goes with their lifestyle.

"The wearer and the clothes together tell people who you are." Jerry Zhang, founder of a Beijing lifestyle marketing company, told CGTN. It's not your gender that makes you different, but your personality (性格). Zhang added.

Clothing can be a good way to show your personality. Yao Qing, a 24-year-old in Hangzhou, is a big fan of sports like skateboarding and skiing. She often wears shirts and jeans. "I feel more myself that way," Yao told China Daily.

Still, fashion expert Shang Tao said we shouldn't follow others blindly. "The key is to learn about yourself well and the environment around you to choose clothes that make you feel more confident," he told China Daily.

The mountains where I live are full of curvy (弯曲的) and dangerous roads. I was driving down one of those roads last spring. Days of rain made the ground slippery to drive on.

As I turned around a curve, I saw a tree that had fallen across the road. It blocked my way. I hit the brakes (刹车) and slowly drove around it. Then I stopped. I knew it was only a matter of time before someone driving faster than I was would run into that tree.

I got out of my car and tried to pull the tree into the ditch (沟)，but it was too big and heavy to move. I didn't know what to do. But 30 seconds later, a white truck appeared and pulled over.

Out stepped a young man. "You need a chainsaw (电锯)？" he asked. I said, "Yes!" He pulled one out of the back of his truck. For the next few minutes, he cut the tree into several parts while I carried them across the road and dropped them on the other side. "You never know when you will need a chainsaw," I joked while my new friend smiled and put his chainsaw back in the truck. I waved goodbye and watched him drive of before heading back to my own car.

In this life, you never know when you will need a chainsaw. You do know, however, when you will need a kind and loving heart.

Stan dreamed to take part in the Olympics.

It was 1 dinner.

When Stan's family was seated, he 2 , "I'm going to the Olympics."

At the stage of puberty, I am going to make myself better. 

Puberty(青春期)is a stage(阶段)of life when young people leave childhood and walk into adulthood (成年). It is difficult for young people to go through puberty because it changes both their bodies and minds. They need to understand what is going on with their bodies, how to do with those changes and learn to take responsibility(责任). 

A young person may begin puberty at 8, while another may not start puberty until 14 or 15. Usually, girls start puberty before boys do. For both girls and boys, it usually comes to an end by the age of 18. 

During these years, the body develops in many ways. Feeling will also change quickly, Young boys at this stage are interested in having fun and being accepted by others. They need to think before they act and make up their minds for themselves. 

A girl's personality often does not develop in the same way as a boy's. Young girls sometimes lose confidence in themselves. They are no longer sure of their own feelings. Yet they are usually afraid to tell their parents or teachers about their problems. For this reason, young girls should be encouraged to talk about things with trusted adults. 

Parents, schools and communities can do a lot to care for and help young people. It is their responsibility to make sure that young people grow into healthy adults. 

Lots of scientists believe there's life on other planets. Because of this, they keep doing research  the universe. They have sent astronauts to the moon. And they have  the answer. There's no life on the moon. Not long ago they  spaceships to Mars. There, they didn't find life. And they found the environment of Mars was from that of the earth. Then they knew it was .  for people to live on Mars. 

 they haven't received a message from other planets, they believe their idea is right. Recently they have discovered a planet. It's .  Proxima Centauri(比邻星). It's very  to our earth. It is just over four light years away. Proxima Centauri is  than the earth. And there's water on this planet. That  mean that life is

possible there. Now scientists are studying this planet. Soon they will tell people the answer. 

Rishi was a 10-year-old boy. Just like any other boy of his age, sometimes he did what his mother and father told him to do, but sometimes he would completely ignore them. Since this was very common in kids, Rishi's mom did not worry a lot. 

It was a 5-day holiday. He spent a good time with his mother. She took him for outings. They went to the beach and parks and had delicious meals. She cooked his favorite foods and played with him. 

Three days were left and Rishis mother wanted to clean the house and she wanted to involve Rishi in cleaning. 

She asked him to help her and to her surprise, he also accepted. Everything was done quite well. Rishi's mummy was surprised with his act. While she was cooking the dinner meal, Rishi gave her a picce of paper, written by him. Since his mom was busy cooking, she asked him to place the paper on the dining table. 

Afer cooking the meals, she took the paper left by his son and was greatly surprised to see what he wrote!
