Bally Bhamra started travelling the world at the age of 60. After working for 40 years, she decided it was her time to explore. Now in her seventies, she is ready  (visit) new and exciting places and that's what she is doing.

The Broken Vase

There once was a girl named Lily who had a  (鲜艳的，聪明的) idea for a science project. She believed her project would score a perfect ten, leaving her competitors (竞争对手) at  (零). However, one day, she accidentally knocked over and broke a beautiful vase while rushing through the  (大门) at home. Looking at the broken pieces, she saw only hopeless  (洞，孔) where her success should be.

This idea is  (普遍的，广泛的) true in life. Lily learned that our weakness and repairs can become our greatest strengths, making us uniquely beautiful.

In our English class last week, our teacher showed us a video on WeChat Channels named "This Perspective-taking (换位思考) Experiment Silenced the Whole Class". This video left a 1 impression (印象) on me.

There are many traditional folk stories about this festival. However, most people think that the story of Chang'e is the most touching. Chang'e was Hou Yi's beautiful wife.  Whoever drank this could live forever, and Hou Yi planned to drink it with Chang'e. However, a bad man, Feng Meng, tried to steal the medicine when Hou Yi was not home. Chang'e refused to give it to him and drank it all.  Hou Yi was so sad that he called out her name to the moon every night. One night, he found that the moon was so bright and round that he could see his wife there.  How he wished that Chang'e could come back! 

After this, people started the tradition of admiring the moon and sharing mooncakes with their families.

In Chongqing China, a new robot named Peipei is helping take care of the elderly. Peipei works at a centre for old people. She is kind, careful, and a good listener. People there say she's a friendly helper.

Peipei is very smart. She can tell if someone is sad or not sleeping well. She says kind things to make them happy. Grandma Wang, an old woman at the centre, likes talking to Peipei. They often play games and take photos together. Peipei can even make the photos look nice! When Grandma Wang misses her granddaughter, Peipei tells her that she will give her a call soon.

Peipei's name sounds like the word "陪". It means "to keep you company". With the help of AI technology (人工智能技术), Peipei can understand people's feelings and give the elderly better care.

Taking care of the elderly is not easy. Nurses can't always be with everyone. But Peipei can be there all day and night to help. She can help old people learn about robots and new technology, too. Many of them are now curious about how robots work and want to learn more.

Besides helping at the centre, Peipei also joins group activities like singing and storytelling. She never gets tired, so she can always be there when someone needs company. Peipei can also remind people to take their medicine and drink water. She even tells fun stories to make them smile. These small things make a big difference in the lives of the elderly.

There are many old people in Chongqing. That's why the city is using robots like Peipei to help. In the future, robots like Peipei may be in more places to care for the elderly.

A beautiful woman entered the plane and looked around in search of her seat. She found her seat next to a man who had no hands. She called an air hostess (女乘务员) and said unhappily. "I won't be able to travel comfortably in this seat. I want to change my seat."

The first time she saw Peking Opera was at an opera museum. "I found it really amazing, " she said. "The clothes were beautiful, and the movements(动作) were also beautiful. It is so different from Western opera. "

Out of interest, she joined the Peking Opera group of TsinghuaUniversity. That made her see that Peking Opera is much more than just the looks. "There is a really big cultural background(背景). And it is the most important in Peking Opera. "

Gordon Williams's hobby may seem strange to people when they meet it for the first time. But it is a traditional craft(手艺) . He builds model ships inside old bottles. 

Gordon has always loved ships, especially sailing ships from the old days. His interest in this hobby began many years ago when he visited a museum in Ottawa. There was a show of model ships in bottles. Gordon thought the show was wonderful. But he wondered how the craftsman got the ship through the thin neck of the bottle. Gordon decided to find it out. 

He found a craftsman who was willing to teach him the skills. First, Gordon takes an old bottle. Then he puts in a layer of putty(一层油灰), carefully shaped and painted, to make it look like the sea. Next, he builds the ship. To get the ship through the neck of the bottle, Gordon holds down the masts( 桅杆). Once the ship is inside the bottle, he takes a long, thin tool to raise the masts. 

Gordon has completed well over one hundred models. His wish is to build bigger model ships, such as aircraft carriers. This will be more challenging, as he will have to build the ship actually inside the bottle. His hobby certainly needs time, patience and a steady hand. 

Dear Amy, 

My special hobby is picking up rubbish. Yes, that's right. AndI especially enjoy collecting waste wood. These pieces of wood may not be wanted( 被 需 要 ) by others, but my grandfather and Ican give them a new life. We love turning them into flower shelves, sunshades and even swings. We place them in our garden and they make us very happy. They also give our garden a sense of design. 

I also like picking up bottles. These are usually empty bottles. We can repurpose(略微改动) them by making holes at the top and use them to water flowers. Of course there can be many other uses for these bottles. 

I find picking up these waste things very enjoyable. Some people think it's difficult to discover the hidden treasures of waste things, but it is a piece of cake for me. I'm really good at turning these seemingly useless objects into useful resources. They can help us do many things and create a much cleaner environment. 

We are always encouraged to reduce, reuse and recycle waste. By doing these, we can not only create cool new things but also play our part in protecting the environment.

Yang Jing

Yang Kexin comes from Guizhou Province. She really loves meteorites(陨石). 

Yang became interested in meteorites when she was young. Once, she saw a photo of a meteorite. Her friend found the meteorite in Xinjiang. Yang got inspired (受到了启发) and in 2012 she left her job in Beijing and started to work in Hami, Xinjiang. There she spent most of her free time looking for meteorites. However, it was not easy. Luckily, Yang found a small meteorite on one trip. She jumped up and down and shouted, "I found a meteorite!" And the finding made her decide to look for more meteorites. 

Yang spent five years in Hami and found more than 600 meteorites. These meteorites were valuable. Someone wanted to buy them at a high price, but Yang said no. She never thought of making money with them. 

In 2017, Yang went back to Guizhou Province and started a museum showing her meteorites. "I spent more than 300, 000 yuan opening this museum. Because I didn't have enough money, I borrowed some, " she said. So it came as a surprise when she decided to open the museum to people for free. She thinks it's a good way to help more people learn about meteorites. 

Yang enjoys her life because she is doing something she's really interested in.
