Han Kang(韩江) is a well-known South Korean author who won the Nobel Prize inLiterature in 2024. She grew up in a family that loved books — her father is also a famous writer. Han Kang began her writing career in 1993.  .

The Shenzhen-produced dance drama"Wing Chun"(《咏春》) shows a traditional Chinese kung fu style. It was set to perform in Paris from Oct. 4 to 6, 2024, with four performances over those three days, according to Shenzhen Daily. 

France Soir, a French national newspaper, highly praised the dance drama to its readers. According to the report, people who like Chinese martial arts(武术) and dance, will find"Wing Chun" well worth attending. 

The reporting team did a very careful study of making"Wing Chun". In order to show what it was like behind the stage, they traveled to Shenzhen to watch shows. 

During their visit to the Pingshan Theatre in Shenzhen in late June, the reporters were impressed by the production, saying that"the sets have nothing to admire Broadway theaters, and the stage is completely modern. "

Wing Chun is one of the martial arts inherited(传承) from Shaolin. Yip Man(叶问) is the third generation. He began teaching Wing Chun in Hong Kong in 1949. Yip Man later introduced Wing Chun to the country. Today, Wing Chun is the second most popular martial art after Tai Chi. All this is because of Yip Man. In 2014, Wing Chun was added to the national intangible cultural heritage(非物质文化遗产) list. It has also become popular worldwide through action films. 

A post on a French blog said this show was a cultural feast(盛宴) for the eyes and the soul. It reported"Wing Chun" would meet the growing interest in the dance drama in France. This production was rich in traditional Chinese culture. It was expected to greet local audiences and leave an impression on the local arts scene, after its successful overseas performances in the UK and Singapore. 

It was the late 1980s. I was about three or four years old. My grandparents bought a personal computer (PC) for their restaurant business. Besides the usual office software, the machine could run some simple games — a pleasure to me at the time. 

Nearly every Saturday, my parents would go to the restaurant for lunch and I would play on the computer if Grandma wasn' t using it for work. She often encouraged me to play the games while I was there. 

Years later, my grandparents received another PC from my aunt and they gave it to me. This PC was very different from my grandparents'. I could create software with it. Grandma bought me a book on basic programming. By then, she always made sure that I wasn't just playing games on my computer. She often got me educational applications(应用) to help me with my studies. 

Overtime, I learned more about how computers work than Grandma did. Sometimes, Grandma would ask for my help when she had computer problems. Since I was busy with my studies, I would sometimes complain about having to spend time fixing her computer. Now I really regret what I did to her. 

Today, I work for one of Canada's largest tech companies. Without Grandma, I would never have become so good at programming or got this high-paying job. Last summer, I noticed that Grandma was having problems with her computer after upgrading(升级). Within minutes, I had everything fixed. Unlike me in my teenage years, I didn't complain, and I will never do that again. 

On April 26, 2022, Italian traveler Vienna Cammarota set off from Venice. Then, the 72-year-old woman planned to go to China on foot. This meant she would travel about22, 000 kilometers and walk through 15 countries. The journey would be full of challenges, but she wasn't afraid. 

The traveler carried only a backpack. "I also have a lot of passion(热情) with me, " she said. On August 29, 2024, she finally set foot on Chinese soil. 

Cammarota' s trip was inspired by Marco Polo. The Italian explorer traveled to China along the ancient Silk Road more than 700 years ago. For her, the journey was more than following in Marco Polo's footsteps. She hopes her travels will help people in the West see the true beauty of China. 

Cammarota' s interest in China began more than 20 years ago. A Chinese student stayed in her home and told her a lot about the country's rich cultural heritage(遗产). 

Cammarota plans to spend two years in China. She will visit key stops along the ancient Silk Road, including Kashgar, Dunhuang and the historic city of Xi' an. She is also keen on visiting Suzhou. The city was described as the"Venice of the East" by Marco Polo. 

Cammarota calls herself a modern-day Marco Polo. "I want people to know about the Silk Road, " she said. "I also want to send a message to women my age: It's never too late to pursue your dreams. "

A recent TV drama To the Wonder has become China's TV hit of the year. It has also won a 1 at a film festival abroad. To the Wonder is based on Li Juan's famous novel, My Altay(《我的阿勒泰》). The drama shows the area's amazing natural beauty, and old villages that are still in good condition.

Xu Beihong was born in 1895 in Jiangsu. When he was a child, his father introduced (he) to traditional Chinese painting. In 1908,his hometown suffered a flood. Xu followed his father to make a living by painting.  the age of 17, he left home to support his family because his father fell ill. Those hard years deepened his understanding of ordinary people's lives.

Besides horses, Xu also painted other animals, people, and important historical events. In 1939, he received an (invite) from the famous Indian poet Tagore and visited India. There, he painted one of (great) works The Foolish Old Man Who Removed the Mountains. It was created (encourage) the Chinese people during the war against Japan.

Xu was more than a painter. He also played important part in developing China's art education system. In 1950, he became the (one)head teacher of the Central Academy of Fine Arts.

Have you ever imagined that an orange or lemon peel(果皮)could become a lamp or a chair? This is exactly what an Italian company called Krill is doing — changing fruit peels into stylish and green furniture.

It takes just a few steps to do that. First, Krill sources fruit peels from juice factories, markets, and restaurants. They are then mixed with natural glue, heated and turned into a thin thread (线). Finally, this

thread is sent into a special machine which builds the furniture piece by piece.

If you have ever completed a DIY (Do-It-Yourself) project, you probably understand the feeling of satisfaction that comes with it. That feeling could last for about seven weeks, according to a new survey.

The survey interviewed over 2,000 American adults under 44. It was done by a company that makes power tools to understand people's DIY habits and feelings.Each person completed around eight DIY projects in their home at the time of the survey. These projects included simple tasks like painting walls and hanging photos,or more challenging ones like building a tree house.

The results showed that completing a DIY project improves a person's confidence and happiness. More than 80% of people said there was nothing more satisfying than finishing a DIY project at home without any help. Moreover, you are not only helping yourself—63% said that seeing someone else complete a DIY project encourages them to try their own.

People also shared their favorite projects, which included things like building a bookshelf, making a"cat tree" for their cats to play on and creating a small garden.These projects show that DIY can be both creative and enjoyable.

However, not all the DIY projects are easy. Some people reported their confidence was lowered when trying to do something too difficult for them,especially projects seen on the Internet or in AI suggestions. Over half said that there are several projects they would like to do but don't yet feel like they are able to do so or don't have the right tools……

Behind every scientific discovery lies a lot of hard work. Tu Youyou, a Chinese scientist, is a perfect example of this. In 2015, she won a Nobel Prize for her work in fighting malaria(疟疾)— one of the most dangerous diseases in human history.

Tu was born in Ningbo in 1930. From 1951 to 1955, she studied medicine at a university in Beijing. When she finished her studies, she worked at the Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

In the 1960s, many people died from malaria. In 1969, Tu became the leader of a team that tried to solve this problem. She collected more than 2,000 Chinese medical recipes(药方) and tested hundreds of ways to use them. After failing 190 times, she looked for ideas in old Chinese medicine books. Finally, she found out how to get some useful material from a herb(草本植物) called qinghao.

Later, her team tested the material on mice with malaria. They saved the mice successfully, but they still doubted if it was safe for humans. So Tu and her teammates offered to test it on themselves first. The test results showed that the material was safe for their bodies, which made the whole team very excited. With more tests and improvements, in November 1972, Tu and her team announced that they found an effective way to fight malaria.

From Tu's story, we learn that if we want to achieve great things, we have to keep trying, be brave, and respect the wisdom of the past.

One day, my grandmother entered the house and handed a letter to my mother. However, without even looking at it, she put it directly into the wastepaper basket as before.

How time flies! I'm leaving my primary school and ……

A long time ago, there lived a great king in Iran. He ordered his men to build beautiful palace whose walls, ceilings, doors and even floors were made of mirrors.

One day, a dog ran into the palace and stopped in the middle of the hall. He was (surprise) that a whole group of dogs appeared(出现) from all sides. When the dog bared his teeth(龇牙咧嘴), all the dogs in the mirrors bared theirs. The dog was so frightened that he (mad) barked. The echoes (回音)  (go) on and on many times. The dog barked even (hard) and the echoes kept up. The dog jumped from one side to another. The dogs in the mirrors also jumped from side to side.
