Sugar painting is a kind of traditional Chinese folk art. Instead  using a brush or a pen, artists use hot sugar to create beautiful pictures. The art often attracts many people (watch) because of its sweet smell and amazing shapes. 

Sugar painting (start) in the Ming dynasty. Back then, rich families would make small sugar animals for celebrations. By the Qing Dynasty, it had spread (wide). Over time, artists got even better at it. They began mixing it with other traditional art (form), like shadow play and paper cutting. This helped (they) create many different and exciting designs. 

Today, sugar painting artists are often found in busy streets or parks. Customers usually choose  pattern with a special meaning from a lucky wheel. After the pattern (choose), the artist begins to work. Since many drawings are made with a single stroke（一笔画）, the work must be done quickly before the sugar cools down  turns hard. When the drawing is finished, the artist puts a wooden stick on the sugar and lifts it up. It is not only a (taste) snack but also a beautiful piece of art. 

Nowadays, sugar painting is becoming more and more popular around the world. Famous artists are even invited to other countries to show this special Chinese art!

A messy room is hard to clean and often leaves you stressed.  Here are simple tips to help you tidy up your room.

Recently in Shenzhen, a discussion about park lighting has caught wide attention, and wildlife was the winner. 

A citizen complained online that the pathways in a popular coastal park were too dark at night. He called for more streetlights to improve safety and beauty. However, the city's park management refused the request. They explained that brighter lights would harm migratory birds, making them lose their way or fail to rest well. They also mentioned that basic lighting was already enough to ensure visitors' safety. 

To the public's surprise, the reply won a wave of praise. "This shows the warmth of the city, " one user wrote. Another commented, "Let the birds rest at night. After all, we all share the same planet. "

According to a survey, Shenzhen is home to more than 450 species of wild birds, making up one-third of China's total. This success comes from the city's bird-friendly actions, including adding special stickers to glass buildings and setting proper streetlights. Cai Xiao, a Shanghai birdwatcher, praised these efforts. "They show social progress and warm our hearts, " he said. 

In recent years, Shenzhen has been working hard to protect biodiversity (生物多样性). A great example is the Kunpeng Trail No. 1 Bridge, which connects two mountains separated by a road. Only one-tenth of the bridge is for humans, while the rest is for wild animals. In 2024, shortly after the bridge opened, a camera recorded a small wild cat walking across it safely. 

Now, Shenzhen's example has been followed by other Chinese cities. No longer going for growth at the cost of the environment, cities are seeing more wild animals return. "This is the attitude a modern city should have, " people said online. 

Onnie Blumberg has always known her mother was kind and creative. When she was a child, her mother always volunteered to make clothes for her drama club. 

In 2017, her mother lost the use of the right side of her body and began using a wheelchair. Two years ago, when Blumberg sold her mother's place, she found two sweaters her mother had started but not finished—— one for her and the other for her daughter. 

Blumberg didn't know how to finish these sweaters, so she went to a knitting（编织） store for help. The owner recommended Loose Ends to her. The voluntary group matches people with kind strangers to help them finish projects that their loved ones left behind because of illness or death. 

Blumberg contacted Loose Ends, and they introduced her to a nearby volunteer, Anna Minmier, who started knitting at the age of nine. Her efforts, Blumberg says, are an act of kindness that she can never repay. "All I could do when I met Anna was give her a big hug, "Blumberg says, crying. "It's unbelievable how special this project is. I would have spent a fortune to get this done. "

Anna spent months finishing the sweaters, and says she's happy to have a part in this beautiful story. The project reminds her of her own grandmother, who loved knitting as well. It's also a good chance for her to work with patterns she never would have picked for herself. 

Sadly, Blumberg's mother died last year. Now, these finished sweaters are not just clothes. They are important memories for Blumberg and her daughter to keep.

Einstein:Nothing truly valuable comes only from a wish for success or a sense of duty. It is born of care for people and faithfulness to truth. 

Sean:How do you get to truth?

Einstein:Imagination is the key. It is more important than knowledgeLogic can get you from A to B, but imagination can take you everywhere. 

Sean:So knowledge has limits（限制）,but imagination is endless.Then what is the true aim of study?

Einstein:Never consider study as a duty. See it as a chance to enjoy the beauty of thinking and more importantly, to give back to the community. The value of a man should be seen in what he gives and not in what he is able to receive. 

Sean:That's truly encouraging.Maybe that's why people see you as a genius.How do you feel about that?

Einstein:(Smiling)Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid. 

Sean:You're saying that we all have something special.Should education help us find our talent?

Einstein:Of course.But education is not the learning of facts.It is the trainingof the mind to think.The key is to never stop questioning.

The koel(噪鹛)is an often-seen bird in Shenzhen parks. Every summer, its loud calls wake people up early in the morning. 

Recently, some students at a middle school in Nanshan wrote a letter to their head teacher. They said that the koel's"ko-el, ko-el"sound made them feel (bore) during morning classes. They could not pay attention to their lessons and (prefer) to study in silence. 

The head teacher wrote back wisely. In his letter, he did not accept(接受) such (treat) of the bird. But he encouraged the students (think) about the bird's role in nature. "The koel (it) is a guest in our city, "he wrote. "It (eat) insects that harm trees. This is good for our environment. "

He also explained that the koel is  unique protected animal in Shenzhen. "We should learn to communicate  nature, not fight against it, "he added. "(probable), you can close the windows. "

To help more people care about tree protection, Shenzhen has started using new technology. Each ancient tree now has a special code on its trunk. . By learning about their long history, more people begin to understand the importance of tree protection.  . 

Starting from 2025, middle school students in China began enjoying new spring and autumn holidays. The spring break usually comes around Tomb Sweeping Day. The autumn break is in November. Each break lasts two to three days. It can last five to eight days when put together with weekends. 

The government wants to give students more time to rest and help them feel less worried about school. "Spring break is good for students' health, eyesight and mood, " said Shi Ai, a school leader in Sichuan. The policy (政策) also tries to help family travel and make business better. 

Students, parents, and tourism all get help from it. Ma Xingzhi, a third-grader from Chengdu, travelled to Wuzhen with his parents. "I felt happy because there was no homework. It was just fun, " he said. His mother said the same, "We could travel before the busy season to stay away from too many people. "

Schools cannot give written homework during the break. Bosses and companies are encouraged to let parents work at different times so they can be with their children. The number of people buying flight tickets from Chengdu rose by 50% during the first spring break in April 2025. 

The policy, first tried out in Zhejiang in 2004, is now spreading across the whole country. "Unique life experiences outside school can help students grow, " said education expert (教育专家) Lin Li. 

On March 21, about 30 international students from Shenzhen University visited OCT Wetland Park in Nanshan District. This park is an important stop for migratory birds (候鸟) from around the world. Those birds fly a long way from one country to another. 

The visit started the 2026"APEC China Year" programme. It helps young people from different countries share ideas about environmental protection. At the showroom, volunteer (志愿者) teacher Xie Yunwen gave a talk in English. She explained the importance of wetlands and how people protect birds there. She also talked about mangroves—special trees that grow near the sea. Students learned how the wetland changed from farmland to a protected natural park. 

After the talk, students went outside to watch birds. They used binoculars to see more than 10 kinds of birds far away. They watched how these birds built their homes and looked for food. 

In the sharing time, Yulia from Russia talked about waste-sorting (垃圾分类) in different countries. She said people should use less plastic. Milana, another Russian student, has studied birds in Northern Europe. She said OCT Wetland is a great place for bird protection. 

The programme will continue until November. Students will visit more places on Earth Day and World Environment Day. 

Cui Shengyu, a 15-year-old student from Jilin Province, is really popular online and his dance videos have millions of views. He recently won the break dancing championship(冠军) in Vietnam. But behind this success lies years of hard work. 

The training was never easy. Cui practised for six hours every weekend. On school days, he followed a strict morning timetable: he woke up at 5:30 a. m. to run for 20 minutes, then spent 40 minutes practising basic moves before leaving for school. His knees(膝盖) often had purple marks. His hands hurt from supporting his body weight. "I fell down hundreds of times and it hurt, " Cui remembered. "But I got up again. I told myself: pain means progress. Each fall taught me how to land more safely and my moves became better after every practice. "

In August 2023, Cui won his first international(国际的) gold medal at the ISF U-15 Gymnasiade in Brazil. It was the first time a Chinese student had won break dancing gold internationally. In the past two years, he won several more championships. 

Now Cui is preparing for the next game in Serbia. "My goal is to show Chinese street dance to the world, " he said. "I want to see the Chinese flag rising in more competitions. And I hope I can take part in the Olympic events in the future. "
