LU XUN—— Power in his words

Lu Xun, a great writer in history, lived from 1881 to 1936. He had so many famous works, including Call to Arms, Wandering, A Madman'sDiary and so on.

Lu Xun is one of the founders of modern Chinese literature. He helped create and shape modern Chinese literature with his great works and ideas. His works have been translated(翻译) into more than 70 languages. In the US and some other English-speaking countries, his works are even included in university literature textbooks.

Speaking of Lu Xun,"writer" may be the first word that comes to mind. What may surprise many people, though, is that he was also good at geology(地质学), art and foreign languages. He once studied medicine, and he was also one of the first people in China to get a formal education in geology.

If he had wanted to, Lu Xun could have had success in these fields(领域). However, living in an old and weak country, he believed that writing was the most important way to change people's minds. He once said,"people of an old and weak country, however strong and healthy they may be,will never stand up if their minds don't change. So the most important thing is to change their spirit." However, it can't be changed from one day to the next. Lu Xun felt worried about China's future all the time. He kept fighting with his pen and went on writing until the end of his life.

Today, we live in peace, but we still have to face many problems. In his writing, Lu Xun shared his critical thinking(批判性思维) and deep care for the nation. This is a great treasure for us all.

	A 12-year-old boy recently refused to give his 20,000-yuan lucky money to his mother. It started a heated discussion online. The mother said the lucky money was just a return gift between families. Parents usually give red envelopes to other children first, and later their child gets the lucky money in return. So she thought . But the boy said the money was a personal gift to him. He should have the right to control it.
	I agree with the boy. Lucky money is given to me, not to my parents. It is my own money. I can save it or buy what I need, like books and stationery (文具). If parents take all the money away, we can never learn to manage money.
	I don't agree. Lucky money is not a free gift. It is part of our family custom in China. When my parents give red envelopes to others, the money I get is just the exchange. Also, keeping too much money may lead some teenagers to waste money on e-games or expensive clothes.
	It is about financial education, not just who owns the money. We can open a bank account in the child's name. The money can be divided into savings and daily costs. In addition, children can set aside (拨出) some money for meaningful things. In this way, children can learn to plan money, and parents can still help and guide them.
