An exchange visit for education

Last week, students of Pengcheng Middle School from Shenzhen went to Xinhua Middle School, Guangxi Province. 

Wang Haoze, China's first woman spaceflight engineer, thanked her teacher. 

"I think I'm lucky to be part of the country's space program because I didn't study space at first, " the 34-year-old astronaut said. "I studied at Southeast University from 2009  2015. Professor Gu Fan, who led me to the space industry (航空业), often discussed the topics of space with us. He also encouraged us  (work) in the space industry. "

With the help of Professor Gu, Wang worked at the Beijing Acrospace Propulsion Institute (北京航天推进研究所) in  summer of 2015. At the institute, Wang studied and developed new models of rockets. Faced with new  (challenge) and knowledge, she enjoyed learning and finishing difficult tasks successfully. 

Three years after working on rockets, she joined the  (three) generation (代) of astronauts. "I have never imagined I can have a chance to become an astronaut, " Wang said. So far, she  (spend) hard time with teammates in lots of tests.  she met a lot of difficulties, she never gave up.

Having an intense (剧烈的) workout.

Compared to the longer winter and summer holidays, many forget about spring break. It is a whole week off from school for many students in the US. Usually in March or April, spring break is a time when US students often take part in all kinds of activities. 

North Carolina, the state where I live, has great places for hiking and many sunny beaches. My family takes spring break as a chance to enjoy outdoor activities as the weather gets warmer. During this time, we head outside to find new hiking places nearby and get close to nature. 

Those who are not as outdoorsy(爱好野外活动的) will choose a more relaxing and unhurried spring break experience. Going to nearby beaches, shopping and attending local events become their main choices. 

Though students don't usually have homework over spring break, many upperclassmen (高年级学生) are still busy getting ready for summer internships (实习) or graduation. Spring break is also a good time for personal growth. 

Spring break may be the most "chill" time during the school year, enjoyed by students as a time to relax and take a short break before the busy school life begins again. Whether enjoying nature, having fun on the beach, or focusing on personal development, students make the most of this time of respite (喘息). 

Almost all animals need to sleep to stay healthy. But sleeping can be dangerous because other animals may hunt sleeping animals. To help them stay safe, animals have many different ways of sleeping. Some of these ways may surprise you!

Some seabirds can sleep while they fly. These large birds spend most of their lives over the ocean. They are in danger on the water, but they are safe in the air. They glide (滑行) for many hours without moving their wings up and down. Sometimes they sleep while they glide. 

A dolphin sleeps with just half its brain at a time. It must stay awake to breathe and to watch for danger. Dolphins can swim without sleep for two months to stay safe. Ducks sleep with just half their brains, too. These ducks often sleep in a line. The ducks at both ends help keep the group safe. They keep one eye open to watch for danger. The ducks in the middle sleep with both eyes closed. 

Seals(海豹) breathe air, but that doesn't stop them from sleeping underwater. They hold their breath and dive deep to sleep for up to twenty minutes at a time. Some fish make their own sleeping bags. They make a big bubble(泡泡) and sleep inside it. It also keeps other animals from smelling them. If an animal hits the bubble, the fish swims away quickly. 

Do teenagers in small villages do chores(做家务) at home? How about the teenagers in big cities? To know the answers, we made a survey (调查) last month. We asked 4, 000 teenagers in China. Half of them come from big cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. The others are from small villages. We made a chart (图表) according to our survey. Let's have a look at it. 

We can find out that teenagers in small villages do more chores than those in big cities. Maybe it is because they live a harder life. We will give our advice to parents in big cities. We think parents should give their children some chores to do because it's a good chance for teenagers to learn how to take care of themselves. 

Liuchixiang, a 2-meter-wide alley (巷子) in Tongcheng, Anhui province, is a famous place because of an ancient story behind it. 

During the Qing Dynasty, one of the officials (官员) , Zhang Ying, 1 a letter from his family back in his hometown. 

From the letter, Zhang learned that his family had fought with their 2  Wu over the empty space between their two houses. Since both families enjoyed high status (社会地位) in Tongcheng, they couldn't reach a 3 agreement. 

Zhang's family wrote the letter 4 that Zhang could order the Wu family to meet their needs. 5 , Zhang replied with a poem:

There was an old man in a village. All the other villagers were tired of (he) because of his bad moods(情绪). Even on big days, while other villagers were celebrating，he was still complaining(抱怨). When people  (try)to cheer him up, he would turn them away. His bad moods could also  (easy) pass to others.He always made others feel unhappy as well. So nobody liked to stay with him.

When we are new at a school, it's not easy to build new friendships. How to make friends with others?  

First, starting with simple steps like smiling may make it easier. Always keep smiling to show that you're kind.  No one likes to make friends with someone who always looks cold.

For quiet students，trying to be more outgoing（外向的）helps make friends.You can ask safe questions like "What's your hobby? "to start a talk.   It might be hard at the beginning，but if you stay friendly，you'll make more friends at school.

Join school clubs or sports teams.  If you join one, you'll meet many other students. Over time, you could become good friends with some of them. For example, football lovers can meet new friends during team practices.You can also try joining a book club if you love reading.

 Don't let shyness stop you from doing so. True friendships often begin with small, brave steps. It' s OK if you are not feeling confident now— just act like being confident until you make it! Keep trying, and you'll see some changes in your social life.

Friendship takes time, so be patient and stay kind to yourself and others along the way.

Chinese astronauts are having much better eating experience in space than before. In the past，there were not many kinds of foods for them to choose from. In 2003, during Yang Liwei's mission(飞行任务) on Shenzhou V，he had only 20 to 30 kinds of cold food. However，two years later, the number of food types grew to over 40. And there were more than 120 different dishes for astronauts to enjoy in 2021.

Bigger improvements continued in the same year. The world's first space microwave(微波炉) oven successfully arrived in space with the Chinese space station's cargo spacecraft Tianzhou-2. Now, with the microwave oven, it is possible for astronauts to have hot and tastier meals.

Before the space missions, China launches a survey to find out the astronauts' likes or favorites on food. Then, each astronaut would get a food list—different breakfast, lunch and dinner for different weeks.This way, astronauts don't get bored with the same food all the time.

The trip in space is often long and lonely, so food about "home" is provided in space. For example, astronauts can enjoy traditional Chinese food like dumplings on Chinese festivals, and they can even take traditional Chinese medicine to stay fit.

The improvement in astronauts' diets makes their space trips more fun and make them feel like home.

"I feel my heart race, my eyes widen and almost automatically(自动地), I start to smile, "Prayitno Goemarto said. This is how he feels when he sees a new bird species(种类).

Goenarto is a birdwatcher and wildlife photographer from Indonesia. He is now 33 years old. When he became sick in college, his doctor told him to go out more often for sunlight,exercise and fresh air. That's when he started watching birds.

A birdwatcher needs to know a lot and be brave and strong. Goenarto spends most of his time working in the wild. He knows where and when to find different kinds of birds. Sometimes he has to go deep into the forest to find the shy birds in it. It can be dangerous. He might get lost. He has to watch out for snakes,scorpions(蝎子) and some big animals. Once, Goenarto went to a faraway island to look for some rare birds. It rained heavily every day. He worked in wet clothes for the whole trip.

Goenarto loves his work. Bird-watching helps him stay healthy and he can make friends with other birdwatchers. What's more, he often takes pictures of wonderful moments of the birds. Those help more people learn about birds and take steps to protect them. That's the best part of the job!

Li Hua is a seventh-grader living in Shenzhen. He has lived here since he was a little boy and loves how the city's seasons bring different joys. Let's follow his life through a year!

In spring, Shenzhen wakes up with warm sunshine and green leaves. The temperature usually stays between 18℃ and 25℃, but it often rains gently. On weekends, Li Hua often goes hiking with his family in Lianhuashan Park. "Spring makes the city look fresh and lively," Li Hua says.

Summer in Shenzhen is hot and wet. The days are long, and the temperature can reach 32℃. Li Hua's favorite activity is playing basketball with his friends after school. Sometimes, typhoons come, and schools have to close for safety. On those days, Li Hua studies at home, reads books, and helps his mom cook food. 

Autumn is Li Hua's favorite season. The weather becomes cool and dry, with little rain. The air is fresh, and the sky is blue. He often rides his bike to the seaside on weekends. They fly kites, collect shells, and watch the sunset over the sea. "Autumn in Shenzhen is so comfortable—neither too hot nor too cold," he smiles.

Winter in Shenzhen is short and warm. It never snows, and the temperature rarely(很少) drops below 10℃. In the morning, Li Hua wears a thin jacket to school. On sunny weekends, his family often has a picnic in the park, enjoying the warm winter sun.

Li Hua feels lucky to grow up in Shenzhen. Each season has its own charm, and he always finds fun things to do. 

Last summer, I joined a summer camp in the countryside with my classmates. It was a great experience that made me grow a lot.

The camp teachers were very1 . They always smiled at us and helped us solve problems patiently. Every morning, we woke up to the sound of birds singing. The environment there was so2 that we felt relaxed every day. Before the camp started, we spent two days3 it—we bought necessary things and learned some basic outdoor skills.
