What Do No.5 High School Students Do in Their Free Time?

Last month we asked our students about their free time activities. Our questions were about exercise, use of the Internet and watching TV. Here are the results.

We found that only fifteen percent of our students exercise every day. Forty-five percent exercise four to six times a week. Twenty percent exercise only one to three times a week. And twenty percent do not exercise at all!

We all know that many students often go online, but we were surprised that ninety percent of them use the Internet every day. The other ten percent use it at least three or four times a week. Most students use it for fun and not for homework.

The answers to our questions about watching television were also interesting. Only two percent of the students watch TV one to three times a week. Thirteen percent watch TV four to six times a week. And eighty-five percent watch TV every day! Although many students like to watch sports, game shows are the most popular.

It is good to relax by using the Internet or watching game shows, but we think the best way to relax is through exercise.它有益于身心。Exercise such as playing sports is fun, and you can spend time with your friends and family as you play together. And remember," Old habits die    hard." So start exercising before it's too late!

Mr. Horse is a hard worker. He runs between villages  towns to carry(运送) carrots.

Usually, he spends two weeks (get) to one place and back again. He enjoys the job, because he can get three bags of carrots for free every time. They're  (he) favorites.

On a snowy and  (cloud) day, Mr. Horse comes to Happy Town. Mr. Horse sees Mr. Snowman next

"Oh, I feel terrible. You see I don't have a nose and I can't smell anything," Mr. Snowman says. "Don't worry(担心). Let me help you," Mr. Horse says. Then he puts his favorite carrot in the middle of Mr. Snowman's face as a nose.

"Thanks, Mr. Horse,"Mr. Snowman says.

"No problem, my friend. Have a good day!" Mr. Horse says and goes home  (happy).

After some days, a bird  (visit) Mr. Snowman and says, "Mr. Snowman, I'm very hungry . Do you have any food? "

Mr. Snowman says，"You can just eat my carrot nose. Winter will be over. The weather  (get) warm and I'm melting(融化)."

"That's very kind of you, Mr. Snowman, the bird says. Mr. Snowman says, "Happiness  (come) from helping others."

Everyone may have a life changer, and I am no exception(例外).My father changes my life in a slow but1 way.

Usually, people think that fathers are strict. They usually get serious when you make mistakes.2 my father is more like my friend. When I was very young, we 3 a lot of time together. We often played basketball, football, and other games. As I grew up, my father4 me more skills like writing, drawing, and dancing. Through these, we developed a strong and close relationship with each other.

Since we are friends, I 5 to tell him my personal stories and some of my secrets(秘密).He often gives me proper advice on different problems. With his 6 , I know what is right to do and how to make important decisions in my life.

Moreover, my father sets a good 7 for me in life. I follow his steps and do all the right things he does. My father is very kind and often listens to others8 I try to be a good listener like him. This helps me better understand others

What is confidence? .

Confidence helps us feel ready for life's experiences. When we're confident, we're more likely to move forward with people and opportunities(机会), not back away from them. And if things don't work out at first, confidence helps us try again.

  Here are a few tips:

Build a confident mindset(思维模式).

Don't say "I can't" when you need to finish a thing. Instead, say to yourself," I know I can learn or do this if I put my mind to(全神贯注于…) it.?

Take a safe risk.

Volunteer to help with a project or take part in a talent show. Raise your hand in class more often. Try doing something that's just beyond(超出) your normal comfort zone(舒适区).

Pick something you'd like to do if only you had more confidence. Give yourself a little push to do it. Confidence grows with every step forward.

We're taught to work hard to improve our weaknesses(改善我们的缺点). Certainly, that's important. But don't let working on a weakness stop you from getting even better at the things you're already good at.

Finland is a great country to visit. It is in the north of Europe. In 2022, it came first(名列第一)in the World Happiness Report(全球幸福指数报告).This may be surprising to you because Finland is famous for(因……而闻名) its cold winters and short daylight. Then learn more about the people's lives there and you may find the answer.

In Finland, people often go to the library." The library is an important part of life for the people here," Halsas, a tour guide(导游) in Finland, said." They can do schoolwork there or just read. It's a good environment(环境)."Helsinki Central Library Oodi is a very famous library in Finland. With different parts, it is a relaxing place to work and read.

Finns love their saunas(桑拿浴) and almost every home has one. There are over 2 million saunas in the country. Taking a sauna is very good for health.

The people of Finland also love exploring the outside activities, like climbing mountains or riding bikes. These activities are very relaxing." There is a lot of nature to enjoy. People love clean air and sunshine," Halsas said. Finns are never afraid of the cold, so in winter they still get around on bikes. To them, winter just means more activities, such as ice skating, skiing, and dog sledging(狗拉雪橇).

The Chinese New Year was coming, and Li Mei, a 14-year-old, felt excited. Li Mei's parents told her of the tradition of cleaning the house before the New Year. Li Mei wanted to make her parents happy. She decided to start by cleaning her own room.

On a sunny winter morning, Li Mei started to work. She made her bed first, and then looked through her clothes. She put aside(放在一旁) the ones that were too small for her. She wanted to give them to people in need. She also found a small beautiful cheongsam(旗袍).Her grandmother made it for her. Li Mei used to wear it for the Chinese New Year celebrations, and she hoped it would bring joy to someone else.

After that, she organized her books and cleaned the bookcases. She found many special things that she had forgotten about. Old pictures reminded her of happy times, like birthday celebrations and interesting trips. Cards and letters from her friends made her miss them so much. With her room nearly clean, Li Mei swept and cleaned the floor.

Later that day, when Li Mei's parents came home from work, they were happy about Li Mei'shard work. Together, they cleaned the rest(剩余) of the house.

On the night before the Chinese New Year, Li Mei's family had an enjoyable dinner. Li Meifelt the happiness and good luck around them.
