4、阅读下面短文,并从六个句子中选择五个还原到原文中,使原文的意思完整、连贯。
An old friend of mine advises me to say NO more often so I can concentrate on what matters most. Personally, I've benefited a lot from his advice. I've noticed a few areas where people hesitate to say yes. Here's what I suggest you say YES to:
Say yes to challenge.
It's common to doubt your ability to handle more. Why increase the challenges you're already facing? Though there are a few challenges you might have good reason to say no to, say yes to the challenges that help you grow. Challenge can bring out the best in you.
Say yes to fun.
It's true that too much fun can be silly. Actually, you can work with a positive attitude, which can turn any situation into a fun one.
Say yes to better relationships.
If you are continually connecting with new people, you will give too little attention to the relationships you already have. Improving relationships that matter to you is always something good to say yes to.
Say yes to opportunity.
Put yourself in the place of maximum opportunity. Sometimes opportunity finds you but more often than not, you have to search for it.
A. Saying no is a skill but so is saying yes.
B. It's possible to overextend oneself in terms of social connections.
C. Meet more new people to learn from a wide variety of experiences.
D. My dad has pointed out that I do better when in a challenging situation.
E. And when you do find opportunity, don't pass it by because of laziness.
F. However, sometimes, we get too focused on our work and forget to enjoy ourselves.

5、The oldest child syndrome (综合征), sometimes called the firstborn syndrome, is about how being the first child in a family can form a person's character. Birth order has long been thought of as a main reason that influences (影响) how children grow and change.
Being the first child can sometimes be hard. "The oldest child syndrome is when the first child feels they must do well and be a good example for other children in the family," says Nicholette Leanza, a therapist (治疗专家).
According to Brandy Smith, a psychologist, some common behaviors for the first child include:
·Having a strong sense of responsibility
·Feeling they must meet people's expectations, mainly their parents' expectations
·Often drawn to leadership-type roles
·Usually described as someone who follows rules and acts nicely
·Being a hard-working person who always tries his best to succeed
There are also some advantages of being the oldest child in the family. Studies have shown that firstborn children have an advantage when it comes to learning things around the age of four. Some studies show that firstborn children also have a small advantage when it comes to early reading and writing skills.
"Being the oldest child can also influence how a child grows in feelings and their understanding of who they are," Leanza says. "For example, they might grow up quicker because they have more jobs to do at home or they might act more like parents because they have to look after their younger brothers and sisters."
"These can make it hard for the oldest child to find their identity (身份) outside of their role in their family," Leanza explains. "It's important for kids to learn to be themselves. And they shouldn't just see themselves as part of the family."
(1)、What is the "oldest child syndrome" mainly about?A、How firstborn children are different from others. B、Why firstborn children have more responsibility. C、Why firstborn children are more successful. D、How a person's character is shaped by being the firstborn.(2)、According to Brandy Smith, which sentence can usually describe "the oldest children"?A、They usually like to break rules. D、They pay attention to their personal interests.(3)、What does the passage say about the advantages of being the oldest child?A、They are better at sports. B、They get better grades in school. C、They are more popular at school. D、They learn things better at an early age(4)、Why does Leanza say the oldest child might have trouble finding their identity?A、Because they are always told what to do. B、Because they are always trying to be perfect. C、Because they have many home responsibilities. D、Because they are compared to other children(5)、What's the best title of the passage?A、Tips for firstborn children B、Being the oldest: good and bad C、The firstborn child's advantages D、Growing up fast: the firstborn child's journey -
6、阅读下列短文,从下面每小题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
Since the beginning of this term, primary and junior high schools in Shenzhen have carried out a new measure (措施) to make sure that students have daily PE classes. Shenzhen is the first city in the country to require schools to provide daily PE classes for students at the compulsory (义务的) education level.
Buxin Primary School in Luohu District uses a "3+1+1" model, which includes three regular PE classes, one music-based exercise class, and one sports game class. As a result of the new measure, the number of PE classes at the school has risen to 200.
The number of PE teachers isn't enough for all the new classes, so the school has to ask teachers of other subjects to give some of the PE classes. Liu Xunhua, a Chinese teacher at the school, has taken on the role of a part-time PE teacher. "Everything is for the students' health, and we support the new measure," Liu said.
Yuan Yinuo, a sixth grader from the school, believes sports activities help reduce stress, especially considering the pressure graduating students are under. However, some parents are concerned about the reduced learning time of other subjects though they agree on the importance of daily PE classes. A physics teacher who has been working in Shenzhen for over 20 years has the same worry. He made a comment online, "Adding daily PE classes is a good thing, but it's hard for me to complete normal teaching tasks because some of my classes have been replaced by PE classes."
In a reply, the city's education authority (官方;当局) said schools can independently decide the number of weekly class hours and the time of each class for each subject, and that schools can also reasonably arrange (安排) the courses of each subject.
(1)、How does the writer start the passage?A、By telling a fact. B、By giving an example. C、By listing some numbers. D、By expressing some opinions.(2)、What does Paragraph 2 mainly talk about?A、Why Buxin Primary School needs more PE teachers. B、What schools at the compulsory education level are required to do. C、What problems schools are facing as a result of the new measure. D、How Buxin Primary School carries out the new measure.(3)、What can we learn from Paragraph 4?A、Most teachers are concerned about the reduced teaching time. B、People hold different opinions about the new measure. C、Many parents are worried about their children's health. D、Graduating students should relax more than before.(4)、Why does the writer mention the city's education authority?A、To offer the solution to the physics teacher's problem. B、To show the importance of the city's education authority. C、To describe the daily work of the city's education authority. D、To explain the differences between the present courses and the past courses.(5)、What's the main idea of the passage?A、Chinese students will have hours of daily physical activity. B、A school has carried out a new PE project for students. C、Schools in Shenzhen offer more daily PE classes. D、Students should exercise more to improve their health. -
7、Can plants talk? Modern research has found something amazing: they do communicate with each other.
It has been known for some time that plants use chemicals to communicate with each other. This happens when a plant gets attacked by insects. The plant gives out chemicals from the leaves that are being eaten. This is like a warning, or a call for help: "I'm being attacked!" When another plant gets the chemicals, it starts to give out its own, different chemicals. Some of these chemicals drive insects away. Others attract the wasps (黄蜂)! The wasps kill the insects that are eating the plants. Scientists hope to learn more about this plant warning system, so that we can use it to grow more crops.
More surprisingly, plants also use sound to communicate. People can't hear these sounds; but plants are making them. Some plants make noises with their roots. Corn and chili plants do this. Some trees make clicking noises when there is not enough water.
Most surprisingly of all, plants have an amazing system of communication that can link nearly every plant in a forest. Scientists call this system the "wood wide web". The wood wide web is linked underground by fungi (真菌). It links the roots of different plants to each other. It is in some ways similar to the Internet we use. Using the wood wide web, plants can share information and even food with each other. However, it may lead to bad effects. Plants may use it to steal food from each other, or spread chemicals to attack other plants. Perhaps one day scientists will learn how to create a "firewall" to help prevent these attacks within the wood wide web.
Scientists are learning more every day about the secret ways in which plants talk to each other. Maybe one day we will know enough about plant communication to be able to "talk" with them ourselves.
(1)、What will plants do when they are attacked by insects?A、They will kill the insects by themselves. B、They will control the wasps to kill the insects. C、They will drive the insects away by themselves. D、They will produce chemicals as a warning or call for help.(2)、How is the wood wide web linked by fungi?A、By making noises with their roots. B、By connecting the roots of different plants to each other. C、By sharing food and information with each other. D、By spreading chemicals to each other.(3)、What is the writer's intention of the last paragraph?A、To give people hope for further studies. B、To praise scientists for their great achievements. 16、
Interviewer:
With me in the studio is Linda Meehan, who's recently returned from a six-month exchange programme with a family in the Netherlands. That's a long way from home.
Linda:
Well. None of my friends had been there or anything like that but my grandfather spent some time there when he was young and he said I should visit one day and I'd planned to do that as soon as I could. So when I had the opportunity to go to Europe, it seemed like the obvious place to go.
Interviewer:
But you were only 15.
Linda:
Well, the family I stayed with in the Netherlands were really kind and I wasn't lonely because I shared the room with one of their daughters. She helped me get used to my new routine. The only thing that was hard was the one-kilometre bike ride to school every day! I enjoyed it in the summer but it was terrible in winter.
Interviewer:
And what was the school like?
Linda:
It was OK because there were a lot of classes in English. The school was very modern and much bigger than most schools in Australia. The library was fantastic and they also had a lot more science labs than my school at home.
Interviewer:
What about the students?
Linda:
Oh, they were really friendly. They gave me lots of advice about places I should visit. They'd all travelled a lot more than me, though no one had been to Australia. But what I found really strange was that they'd never thought about going away from their families for several months like me.
Interviewer:
So is this an experience you would recommend?
Linda:
Oh, definitely! I benefited a lot from the programme. And I think six months was the right amount of time. I needed that amount of time to learn the language. But after six months I really needed to see my parents.
A. Some of them couldn't understand how I could do that.
B. Was there anything you found difficult about living in a foreign country?
C. I was so happy to see them again.
D. And they gave me projects to do when there were subjects in Dutch I couldn't understand.
E. Why did you choose your exchange programme there?

18、Just like any relationship, best friendships depend on trust, promise, respect and interests. When any of these elements is missing, the friendship will be hard to go on. If the trust is totally broken, you may not be able to forgive him or her. Sometimes a friendship ends because either you or your friend gets tired of putting the heart into it. This can happen when one of you finds a new friend or even a new hobby that takes up much time. Or, perhaps you find the relationship is always going in an unhealthy way and you want some distance. Other times, you simply change and want to leave each other. Sure, it seems sad at the time, but it's completely normal. Not all friendships are meant to last forever. So, what should you do if something like this happens to you? Read on for some friendly advice.
Whatever the reason you're breaking up with your best friend, always remember that he or she was once super important to you. Take the time to sit down privately and tell him/her what's going on and why. Don't send him or her an unpleasant e-mail or just start ignoring (不理睬) him or her. In fact, maybe he or she has known there's a problem and would be willing to have a heart-to-heart chat. If you're not sure about wanting an end forever, you could suggest you two take a break from each other. If, after a while, you realize why you became the best friends in the beginning, you can try getting back to your former behaviors. Whatever you do, be honest about your feelings while having respect for his or hers. And if you both agree the BFF thing is over, make sure not to be enemies.
(1)、Which is not the basic elements of friendship?A、Promising to do anything. B、Showing respect. C、Believing in friends. D、Having common interests.(2)、What is NOT the usual cause of ending a friendship?A、Getting tired of putting your heart into each other. B、Finding a new hobby that takes up much time. ⑤Suggest not getting along with each other for a while.

19、My 20-year-old daughter, Ann, living in Philadelphia, sent me a message the other day. "I need socks and shampoo." She was actually asking me to prepare those things for her, but I thought she was playing a cell phone game. I decide not to be a helicopter (直升机) mother, because experience as a mother and professor has taught me how badly that can result. Instead, I prefer a more hands-off way. From the time Ann turned 16, I don't want to know her work and life schedule any longer.
But that's not what I see at Drexel University where I teach. Most of my students talk to their parents three times a day or more. One student's mother called her son because she didn't hear from him for a few days. The son was in the library so he whispered "hello". The mother doubted that he was drinking, and insisted on asking him to take a picture of himself. Holding a newspaper with that day's date, the son had to take a photo of himself and sent it to his mother in order to prove that he wasn't telling a lie.
I always think that my students should depend on themselves. I tell them that I will not check whether they miss classes and finish homework or not. Because they are independent thinkers and they should take responsibility for their own choices.
But their parents don't treat them like me. I know a mother. She puts her eyes on her son too much. She hopes he will walk by the camera so that she can know what he is doing. Another mother checks her son's credit card daily. However, I never do that. My daughters only come to me with important things when they need my decision. I think that's because I give them space.
Many parents try to find if their kids are hiding from them. But we have to learn to respect boundaries (界限), even when technology is so powerful now. So I am going to do my best not to be a helicopter parent.
(1)、The underlined phrase "a helicopter mother" in Paragraph 1 means "________".A、a mother who treats the child as an independent being. B、a mother who pays close attention to their children. C、a mother who prefers a more hands-off way. D、a mother who gives her children space.(2)、Why does the author mention different ways of mothering?A、To show how responsible those mothers are. B、To show that mothers should make decisions for their children. C、To show that space is needed for children to become independent. D、To show that some helicopter mothers love their children so much.(3)、What's the attitude of the author towards helicopter parents?A、Agree. B、Neutral (中立). C、Disagree. D、Unknown.(4)、What will probably be discussed after the last paragraph?A、Advice on respect boundaries between parents and children. B、The powerful technologies for helicopter parents. C、The disadvantages of being helicopter parents. D、The advantages of being hands-off parents. -
20、Being compared to great people like Stephen Hawking and Albert Einstein is not something that happens to a common person. At the age of just 23, Sabrina Gonzalez Pasterski has already achieved many more goals than most of us ever will in our lifetime.
When she was only 14 years old, the Chicago girl made her own single-engine airplane by herself. Then at 16, she flew it across Lake Michigan, becoming the youngest person to ever fly her own plane. She recorded this two-year experience and put it on YouTube.
Completing her study in Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) in 2010, she entered Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
At first, she had to wait to be accepted into the school but once Professors Allen Haggerty and Earll Murman watched her video, they had no doubt. After just three years at MIT, she has already achieved the highest possible grade point—an average (平均) of 5.0.
She is now studying further at Harvard University, with full academic freedom (学术自由). Once again she is only 23 years old.
What's even more amazing is that she is no longer interested in building planes but has turned her attention to physics, namely black holes and how gravity has an effect on space and time—that is why she is being compared to Einstein and Hawking. And she records all of her work on her website Physicsgirl.
During an interview earlier this year she said, "Look on the bright side about what you believe you can do. When you're little, you say a lot of things about what you'll do or be when you're older—I think it's important not to forget those dreams. You must hold on to your dreams and have a strong will. Work hard and never give up. Your dreams will come true finally!"

C、Her ability of making videos on YouTube. D、Her video of making and flying her plane.(3)、What is the right order of the events about Pasterski?a. Study at Harvard University.
b. Wait to be accepted by MIT.
c. Achieve an average of 5.0 grade point.
d. Finish her study in IMSA in 2010.
e. Make a single engine airplane alone.
A、e-d-c-b-a. B、e-d-b-c-a. C、d-e-c-a-b. D、d-e-a-c-b.(4)、Which is important for people to succeed according to Pasterski?A、Being friendly and strong-minded. B、Being positive and strong-minded. C、Being friendly and hard-working. D、Being interesting and hard-working
