In the past few years, cars have become smarter and smarter. In more than nine cities, there are driverless taxis in China. Across the world, many"smart roads" have been in practice.
● Roads that recharge(给······充电)
With the right technologies, cars around the world could be producing energy as they go on the road.
Piezoelectric(压电的) roads mix traditional asphalt(柏油) with new materials. They use vibrations(震动) from passing cars to produce electricity. Piezoelectricity, in fact, is nothing new. It was invented in1880. However, it has never been widely used before now. Lancaster University is going to change that. It has been improving the technology, including developing roadside batteries that can store the electricity.
● Roads that have brains
Roads of the future may be able to know how many people are on them. They could send people updates on weather and traffic situations, and recharge electric cars as they drive.
This seems to be a dream, but a company has almost made it come true. By sensing the weight of a vehicle, the company's smart roads can record the speed of each wheel. After having collected traffic data(数据), the roads will send it to the drivers.
●Roads that never freeze
A tech company has developed the snowless roads. The development is useful because driving in snowy weather can be dangerous. When they feel snow or ice on their surfaces, the roads will heat themselves up so that the snow or ice will turn into water and get dry gradually. The project has been successfully tested on a few roads and in some car parks.
(1)、How have cars changed in the past few years?(2)、How do the"smart roads" produce electricity?(3)、After having collected traffic data我 what will the roads do?(4)、Why is the development of snowless roads useful?(5)、Is it possible that"smart roads" would be widely used in China? Why or why not? -

Nowadays, Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) is becoming popular in different countries around the world. Jin Ying, 25, is a lover of TCM. She took part in a three-month training course on acupuncture and tuina(针灸推拿) at Beijing University of Chinese Medicine.
Jin's life has been different since the training. She changed her life habits after learning the FiveElements Theory(五行学说). For example, she avoided sweating too much during exercise in winter because the cold of winter means people should slow down, according to TCM. For her, learning these skills and theories was not about becoming a TCM doctor, but rather about embracing(拥抱) a new lifestyle.
She is not an unusual example of young people becoming interested in TCM. A survey by China YouthDaily showed that 93.3% of the 1,000 young people who took part had tried different TCM treatments.±3=
"I have seen a rising number of young people come to me for neck and back pans, which are usually related to the elderly," said Ma Weifang, a TCM doctor at Guoyitang, a TCM hospital affiliated(附属) withBeijing University of Chinese Medicine.
Between Western medicine and TCM, young people often choose TCM due to its efficacy(疗效).
Some people question why TCM treats the same illness with different prescriptions(处方). "This is actually a good point of TCM rather than a shortcoming, as it can be a more accurate(精确的) treatment for different patients," Ma explained.
Younger age groups are embracing TCM. And at the same time, TCM is also benefiting (有益于) young people. As Jin noted, "It helps young people understand Chinese medicine and learn why it is believed to be a treasure of our Chinese culture."

Many people might think that if they had more money, then they would be happier in life. For example, when we see others with expensive clothes or nice cars, it's natural to envy them and wish we could have the same. But the things that money can buy cannot bring happiness to a person for a long time.
Is that really true? Studies have found that money can, in fact, make people happier. But it's not having money that brings happiness. Instead, it's giving money to others that makes people happy. It could be buying a gift for a friend or a family member. It could be buying a homeless person food to eat. It could be giving money to a person in need. Just think about the last time you used your own money to do something for someone else. How did you feel? Whether it is a small or large amount of money, looked feel happier when they give. This is because making someone else happy makes the giver happy, too.
This connection between your happiness and the happiness of others is called"ubuntu(班图精神)" in an African language. There is even a story about a man visiting Africa. He asked some children to race to a nearby tree. The first child to touch the tree would get a sweet treat. Surprisingly, all the children held hands and ran together. They all touched the tree at the same time. The man asked why they did this. The children simply said they could only enjoy the treat if everyone could share in the joy. It seems that the key to happiness lies not in how much money we have, but in how we choose to share it.

According to the official announcement, January 25th, local time, bird blood was found on both engines of the plane that crashed(撞毁) in the Republic of Korea last month. Just two of the 181 people on board survived. It is the worst plane crash in the country's history.
A bird strike(撞击) happens between a bird and an airplane. In the U. S. , more than 19,600 wildlife strikes were reported in 2023. And there were over 1,400 bird strikes in the U. K. in 2022. But generally there's no need to worry. Planes go through strict tests during production. This means they will usually continue to operate after a strike with birds.
However, when larger birds strike a plane at high speeds, it's like a bowling ball striking a window."That gets expensive," said Pruchnicki, who was a pilot and now teaches air safety. "Once landed, that airplane may remain out of service for weeks. It needs to receive expensive repairs. For example, a broken wing may cost half a million dollars," Pruchnicki said.
"Many airports are built near waterways and landfills," Pruchnicki added. Bird activities are mainly in these areas. Unavoidably, this leads to strikes between nature and planes. "We' re kind of invading(侵入)their space," he said.
Airports worldwide have tried many different ways to keep birds and other animals away. They've achieved some success, but more efforts are needed. "In the end," said Pruchnicki, "we need to find out how we can coexist in the same environment. It's a must." Plane being struck by birds and other wildlife is becoming a growing problem for air safety. Researchers like Pruchnicki are working to better understand it and its risks to air safety.
(1)、What is the reason why planes can continue to operate after a common hit?A、Pilots are trained for bird hits. B、Planes are designed to avoid birds. C、There are strict tests during production.(2)、How does the writer develop his idea in Paragraph3?A、By giving an example about the problems behind the strikes. B、By listing the reasons for terrible weather. C、By telling a true story about birds flying.(3)、What does the underlined word"coexist" probably mean?A、Go away. B、Fly high. C、Live together.(4)、How does Pruchnicki feel about the efforts to prevent bird strikes?A、Doubtful. B、Hopeful. C、Useless.(5)、What's the writing purpose of the text?A、To explain nature can tell us about air safety. B、To discuss how important to find a right place to build an airport. C、To encourage people to explore solutions to reduce bird strikes on planes. -
