Frost's Descent (霜降) is the 18th of the 24 solar terms (节气) in the Chinese lunar calendar. It usually starts around October 23rd and ends around November 6th. It is the last solar term of autumn. This means winter is coming soon. It is called "Frost's Descent" because this is the time of year when frost starts to appear. During this time, temperatures drop a lot. Because of this, we can see frost begins to form on the ground and plants. Many trees lose their leaves, and some animals start to prepare for their winter sleep.

For farmers, it's a busy season. In northern China, they are finishing the harvest. In the south, they are gathering crops like sweet potatoes and protecting winter crops from the cold. It's also a great time to go hiking and enjoy the beautiful red maple leaves.

What do you like to eat to keep warm in cold weather? Persimmons (柿子) are a popular choice during Frost's Descent. People believe that eating persimmons can help keep them warm and make their bones stronger. Apples and pears are also good for health. In some places like Fujian and Taiwan, people often eat duck. There is even a saying: "Even nourishing (滋养) all year is not as good as nourishing the body during Frost's Descent".

Have you ever looked up at the stars and dreamed of traveling through space in a spaceship? But becoming an astronaut is far more than just having a dream.

Can anyone be an astronaut?

Of course not. You don't have to have a science degree, but most astronauts do. Most of them are pilots, too. You need to be easy-going, patient, and helpful to spend so much time in a small space with other people.

People have to train for years to learn how to stay healthy and safe. They practise space walking and living in zero gravity. Everyday tasks like eating, washing and sleeping can be difficult in a spaceship. There is no running water, so you have to wash with wet tissues (湿巾). It's hard to enjoy the dry food that astronauts have to eat. And to sleep, you must cover your eyes because the sun rises every 90 minutes on the International Space Station.

What health problems do astronauts have?

Living in a zero gravity environment causes changes to our bodies. Astronauts often get backaches because you grow in space—up to 8 centimeters! It's also common to have headaches and to feel sick, especially at the beginning.

In 1930, Sanders managed a gas station in Kentucky. To earn more money, he began cooking and selling meals to travelers. His delicious dishes, such as pan-fried chicken and ham, made him well-known in the area. A few years later, he opened his first restaurant.

Sanders never stopped improving his chicken recipe (菜谱). In 1939, he invented a new way of cooking chicken using a pressure cooker. This new method reduced the amount of grease (油脂) and made the chicken taste even better.

In 1952, Sanders started franchising (特许经营) his fried chicken business. The first franchise was sold to Pete Harman. Harman sold Sanders' chicken in his restaurant in Salt Lake City and named it "Kentucky Fried Chicken".

Later, Sanders sold his own restaurant and traveled all over the country. He went from one restaurant to another, cooking large amounts of chicken. He made sure to get five cents for every chicken the restaurants sold. Today, his face has become an important part of the KFC brand.

Then the birthday kids would make wishes and blow out the candles.

Zheng is from Shandong Province. She came to Italy in 2021 and studied for a master's degree in Milan. She started playing the erhu when she was 9 years old and won several prizes in national music competitions in China. Since April 2023, Zheng has been doing street performances in her free time. She usually gives performances three or four times each month. Before every erhu performance, she gets ready carefully. She wears nice makeup and traditional Chinese Hanfu clothes. She also checks and adjusts (调节) her music equipment to make sure the music sounds great.

When choosing the music to play, Zheng makes sure to have a variety. She plays traditional Chinese folk songs like "Horse Racing". She also combines parts of popular songs and famous Italian music.

Her wonderful erhu music always catches the attention of people walking on the street. They stop, listen, and clap their hands. It's clear that they are very interested in the erhu and the music she plays.
