No sports team is successful without working together to reach a common goal. And it is a great way to teach children certain life lessons. Here are some of the benefits of playing team sports.

Cooperation(合作)

Teamwork in sports improves cooperation.

It means putting different ideas or thoughts aside for the better team. For example, members of a football team need to cooperate to win a game. Without all members in the play working together, the other team could kick the ball away easily.

Socializing(社交)

Working together on a sports team can encourage socializing as players become part of a group.  Children can talk about sports together and brainstorm ways to make the team better.

Confidence

 The research has shown that children who play sports are more likely to have a positive self - image than those who don't play sports. A shy girl who plays basketball is more likely to receive praise from other teammates during the game.

Responsibility

 If a player stands in the wrong position, or misses the basket, he or she will need to take responsibility for what went wrong instead of blaming(责备)teammates or finding excuses.

We all enjoy being part of a group — there's no better work than teamwork, right? Actually, I disagree. Teamwork can be hard. In fact, it was so difficult that I left my office job and started working from home on my own. It's a much better fit for me, and it has made me think about why teamwork can make our jobs harder rather than easier. Personalities(个性)can make teamwork difficult. There's often someone on the team that puts their needs first. The team often goes along with this person, whose ideas might not be the best, just the loudest. Just one difficult personality        can make teamwork hard.    Combine several challenging personality types, and it's even harder.

Not having enough time together can also make teamwork challenging. For example, I was once on a team where we never had enough time to meet as a group. To successfully work as a team, you need time together — and lots of it.

A final reason teamwork is difficult is that there's often no training on how to work on a team. You can't just put people in a room and expect them to work well with each other. You need to build trust with your team members. Think of football players: They aren't just given a ball and told to play. They practice, and they train.

Team can be hard, but working alone has its challenges, too. When my computer doesn't work, I don't have an IT person to turn to. When I have a great idea, I don't have anyone to share it with to see if it really is a great idea. Don't get me wrong — I still like my team of one and enjoy making all of the important decisions myself. But now I realize what was wrong with the teamwork I did in the past and how good teamwork could be if done correctly. And that's useful information — because one day I might want to turn my ME TEAM into WE TEAM.

I joined a band as a drummer in my middle school. I thought it would be fun playing the drums and meeting new friends. At first it was easy, but a month later, it got difficult. I was the only one who couldn't keep pace(节奏)with the other players.

Our teacher, Angie, asked me out to keep practicing while everyone else got to relax. I felt awkward as my teammates watched me fail so many times. Finally I got so tired of practicing that I didn't care about doing it right.

"Are you giving up on me, Steve?" Angie asked.

"Yes, I am," I shouted. Angie sent me inside the music room, where I cried out. Then she came in and said, "Don't be sad. I believe you can make it!" She told me never to give up. She left me alone and I realized Angie was right — by giving up, I was also giving up on the team and myself. With her comfort, I decided to go on practicing. However, I still couldn't play well. Knowing my difficulties, my teammates gave me a hand. They spent about three more hours practicing with me every week. Thanks to their support and help, I began to keep pace with        them. Later, we performed wonderfully.

I was taught that although we each had our own job to do in a show, it would take all of us working together to make the show great. I felt accepted and made great progress. I love everyone in the band.
