Whether you like it or not, artificial intelligence (AI) is here to stay. It has already been used in many different fields. And now one of them is to help find missing children. 

In Hubei Province, a group of 30 students at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) are working on a special project. They have developed an AI system and it can restore（修复）old photos. The clearer photos allow them to better look for missing people.

Sheng Jianzhong set up the project in 2020. At the time, he was a student at HUST. One day, he came across a missing child notice. The photos on the notice were difficult to make out. "These photos may be of no practical use even if the child is around," he said. As a result, Sheng decided to use his skills to help missing children. And to his surprise, many of his schoolmates volunteered to join him.

Over the past few years, the team has tried to develop an AI system for restoring photos. The team has restored more than 1,000 photos. With the help of the AI system, 11 missing children were successfully found. For example, in December 2021, Sun Haiyang found his son after 14 years of searching thanks to the AI system.

In the future, Sheng plans to build a more excellent team to run the project. The goal is not just to further improve the technology. More importantly, he hopes to see more young people work for good causes.

Before I was in Grade Three, I didn't like to help others. I would get irritated（恼怒的）when someone asked me for help. Things changed when I was in Grade Four.

One cloudy day, when I was walking to school, I met a tall man. Carrying a long thin stick and wearing sunglasses, he stood at the crossing. I found this a little strange as it was early in the morning and yet he was wearing sunglasses. But I didn't think much about it and crossed the road.

When I reached the other side, suddenly I heard cars sounding their horns（喇叭）. I turned around and saw that the man was in the middle of the road. It seemed that he was too scared to move. Just then, I knew that the man wasn't able to see. I ran quickly back to him and helped him cross the road. The man turned his head to me and said, "Thank you very much for your kind help."

It made me feel good to hear those words. In fact, I felt so good that I asked him where he was going and if he needed more help. He told me that he was going to the supermarket not far from my school. I walked with him to the supermarket and then went to school.

From that day on, I often tried to help people in need. And now, I volunteer to help out at the old people's home in front of my home every Sunday afternoon. Being helpful makes me happy and I no longer find it irritating.

Volunteering means using your time and skills to help others without getting paid.  Some people don't want to be volunteers because they think volunteering is a waste of time. However, although you won't get paid for your service, volunteering comes with a lot of benefits（好处）. Here are some of them.

Meet new people and build friendships.

 You're sure to meet people and make new friends with common interests. You and your new friends are working together towards common future goals. That makes you feel closer to each other.

Volunteering might take you to a new part of your neighbourhood. Volunteer programmes can help you meet and learn from people with different jobs. This experience can improve your understanding of different people.

Become happier.

What an amazing reason!  Researchers have found that you can make social connections while volunteering. That can give you a sense of achievement and improve your feelings of happiness.

Volunteering is one of the best ways to make a difference to others.

At 10:01 on January 2, 2025, an earthquake with a magnitude（震级）of 4. 8 happened in Yongning County, Yinchuan City. People could feel the earthquake strongly. 

This earthquake happened in the central and  part of the Yinchuan Basin（盆地）. On the evening of that day, it was reported that some people of Yinchuan parked their cars in large parking lots and  to spend the night in their cars. They dared not go home especially those living on much floors. Some people even drove their cars to some places to  the earthquake.

Earthquakes can be scary, but there  something we can do to stay safe. If you are indoors during an earthquake, hide under a strong table or bed. Cover your head and neck with your hands. If you are outside, stay away from tall .

We should all have at least one fire extinguisher in our house or office building. However, it's not enough to simply keep an extinguisher somewhere. We should study this guide carefully and review it often to be ready for a sudden fire. Here is what we should do when a fire suddenly breaks out. 

⑴Have a clear exit route（疏散路线）

Make sure you have a clear exit route. If you cannot put out the fire, you will need to make a safe exit. 

⑵Report the fire

Even if the fire appears manageable（可控制的）, you should always have the firefighters on the way. Once they arrive, they can check to see if the fire has been put out. 

⑶Stand back

You should stay between 1. 8 and 2.5 metres away from the flames（火焰）as you prepare to use the fire extinguisher. 

⑷Use the extinguisher

It can be difficult to think clearly during a fire. One way to help you remember how to use an extinguisher is to remember "PASS":

►P-Pull: Pull the pin on the fire extinguisher. 

►A-Aim（瞄准）: Point the nozzle at the bottom of the fire. 

►S-Squeeze（挤压）: Squeeze the handle to let out the extinguishing chemicals. 

►S-Sweep: Sweep the nozzle from side to side until the fire is put out.

After the fire appears to be out, continue to watch the fire area to make sure it doesn't start burning again. If the fire starts again, repeat the "PASS".

Once the fire is out, or if you are unable to put it out, find a place out of reach of the fire. 

①Water is one of the most useful things on Earth. It gives us life but sometimes water is so powerful that it can even be destructive（破坏性的）. Here we talk about floods. 

②There are two main kinds of floods: flash floods and slow floods. Flash floods are sudden floods of great volumes of water. They overflow（溢出）the river banks and break everything they touch into pieces. Flash floods are destructive. The other type is slow floods. They rise over a long time. Usually as more and more rain falls, the water in rivers rises and the land floods. These slow floods happen in every country in the world. 

③Floods are the world's biggest natural killer. When floods happen, they damage（毁坏）crops, wash away houses, destroy roads, and kill people. Every year in America, water kills over 100 people, most in flash floods. Floods also cause huge economic losses（经济损失）. 

④Floods are a serious problem. Worse still, they may become more powerful and happen more often as global（全球的）warming becomes more and more serious. Around the world, sea level will rise, and the floods will take more lives. 

⑤Floods are a serious natural disaster and we must try to prevent them from happening often to protect our lives and homes.
