Natural disasters may happen at any time. When natural disasters happen, you might find yourself without water, food and electricity（电）.  

Here are some suggestions. 

First, know what disasters may happen in your area. You should learn about the types of disasters that are common in your city, such as earthquakes, floods, or typhoons. It is also a good way to follow local news and weather reports. 

Second, make an emergency plan. Plan a way to get your family members together if they can't find each other when the disaster happens.  Pick one place right outside your home for sudden emergencies and the other one outside of your neighborhood. 

Third, get a family survival kit（急救包）ready.  For example, water, food, medicine and some useful tools. Besides, it is necessary to think about special needs. Pack some special things for the old or the young of your family. Then, keep the kit in a place and make sure everyone can find it easily. 

Finally, practise the plan you made. Practise regularly with your family and make sure that everyone knows exactly what to do. 

 It is impossible to stop natural disasters, but with more preparation, you can protect yourself and your loved ones better. 

On August 23rd, 2017, the strongest typhoon named Hato（天鸽）hit Zhuhai seriously. Do you still remember how 1  it was?

It seemed people all over the city stayed at home to 2  Hato's arrival. I sat by the 3 and kept watching the changes outside. The winds blew so strongly that the sky was in a mess. It was full of leaves and 4 . More and more dark clouds hung over the city. 5 , the power was cut off while the winds were blowing like a monster. It was so scary that I6 my ears tightly. How I wished the typhoon could just disappear!

About fifteen minutes later, the powerful winds began sweeping with heavy rain. Even the big trees were uprooted. On my 7 , I saw the 5-metre-high waves rushing fiercely, with the Zhuhai Fisher Girl standing poorly there. 

The typhoon didn't die down（逐渐减弱）until 8 o'clock. When I got downstairs, I was 8 to see a number of fallen trees, and they made the neighborhood look like a forest! Only then did I 9 how terrible Hato was. Luckily, people came together to clean up and learned a 10 from it. The typhoon broke many things apart, but it also brought people closer together. 

It was late at night. Millie 1 when the bed suddenly shook（摇晃）. She jumped up, shouting, "Mummy! Daddy! Someone's moving my bed! Help!"

How to Solve Our Stress

We all have some problems and stress in our lives. How should we solve them?

Alice: So, what's your hobby, David?

David: . Actually I want to become a tennis player one day. What about you?

Alice: I love reading.

David: ! Do you have a favourite book?

Alice: Yes, Journey to the West.

David: ?

Alice: Because the Monkey King gives me a lot of courage（勇气）.

David: You are right. The Monkey King is really a hero.

Alice: Most children like him. ?

David: I usually play tennis at weekends.

Imagine you are on your way to take a very important exam. Suddenly, one of your classmates falls down beside you. This is exactly what happened to Jiang Zhaopeng, a student in Shandong on May 10th, 2025. 

Jiang was on his way to take the Spring Gaokao. His classmate had a heart problem and stopped breathing. Jiang didn't think twice. He quickly used the CPR（心肺复苏术）skills to help his classmate. He learned these skills at school. With the help of the driver, they drove to the hospital in just 7 minutes. They even ran through six red lights on the way. In the end, Jiang's classmate got better, but Jiang missed his Chinese exam.

This story became very popular on the Internet. More than 2 million people online said Jiang was a hero. They said, "He passed the most important test in life." On May 14th, the Shandong Education Authority decided to give Jiang a special make-up exam. They used backup test papers to ensure fairness（确保公正）. Both Jiang and the driver, Wang Tao, got "Bravery Certificates" from the local government.

Teachers and experts（专家）said this showed how useful the first-aid skills we learn in school can be. These skills can help save lives in real emergencies. When people asked Jiang about missing the exam, he said, "We can take exams again, but we can't bring a life back if it's gone."

This event teaches us that being kind is more important than getting good grades. As an expert said, "Exams test our knowledge, but Jiang's decision showed his good character, and he did very well in that test."  

Huang Xuhua, a great Chinese scientist, left us on February 6th, 2025.

Known as the "Father of China's Nuclear Submarines（核潜艇）", he gave all his life to the 

 of advanced technology for China. Born in 1926, he joined a secret team in 1958 to design China's  nuclear submarine. At that time, the task seemed almost because of many difficulties.

For many years, Huang  day and night. He and other scientists did a lot of research, and they often stayed up late to  problems. Their hard work finally  in 1970 when China launched（使下水）its first nuclear submarine. This was a great moment for China.

Huang's family knew nothing about work for nearly 30 years. Though he missed many family , he felt proud to serve our country. In 2019, he was honoured with the Medal of the Republic, China's honour for his great contributions（贡献）.

All of us are moved by Huang's story. Chinese people, the young, will remember him forever.

Now my parents are of my progress.

In your last e-mail, you asked me how to deal with stress and worries. One good way that many students in my country find helpful is using a worry box. Let me explain how to make and use one.

If you like, place each worry on a scale（等级）from 1 to  10. 1 means "a little worried" and 10 means "the most worried". For example, today I put two worries into the box. I rated "losing my new bike" as a 7 and "worrying about the maths exam" as a 4. Talk it out  Make sure to make some time every day or week to talk about your worries with your parents. Together, you can find ways to deal with them.

Remember, it's not healthy to carry worries around in your head. The worry box provides a safe place to "share" your worries. By using it, you'll learn to deal with your worries.

People often think of the North Pole（北极）and the South Pole as similar frozen（冰冻的）wastelands. They are both places with very cold temperatures and few people live there. However, the North and South Poles are not as similar as people may imagine. 

The North Pole has no land, only thick ice. Temperatures seldom go above 0℃. Most of the time, it stays below zero. 

Although conditions were very poor, people tried for many centuries to reach the North Pole. About 100 years ago, two men, Robert Peary and Matthew Henson, were able to get to this environment full of troubles and difficulties. They reached the North Pole on April 6th, 1909. It was really a hard trip for them. 

There are few things more dangerous than crossing the Arctic（北极）on foot. They may face many problems: very cold temperatures, sudden storms, and even hunger. Most of the area is uninhabited. Few people can live in such a difficult place.

People might think that with such low temperatures for most of the year, the ice would be thick and hard. However, this is not true in the Arctic. The movement of the ocean water under the ice may often cause many different changes on the surface. Sometimes the ice breaks into two opening lanes of water（水道）called "leads". Anyone who falls into a lead can be frozen to death in a few minutes. 

Mary is a thirteen-year-old girl. She had a bad cold yesterday. She didn't want to eat anything. Her mother took her to see the doctor. The doctor gave her a bottle of medicine and told her to take it as the instruction says. Here is the instruction:

Sixteen-year-old Alkut Dilxat became the youngest Chinese climber to reach the summit（峰顶）of Qomolangma on May 19, 2024.

The boy from Urumqi, Xinjiang, arrived at South Base Camp（南部大本营）in Nepal on April 15,2024. He spent 28 days getting used to（适应）the new place. And several days later, the weather conditions were good.  

On May 19, Alkut stepped onto the summit.   Alkut broke a record set last year by Xu Zhuoyuan.

" " Alkut said. "Reaching the summit of Qomolangma is the dream of many climbers including me. I feel very happy that I realized my dream."

Alkut began to learn rock climbing at 7, skiing at 8 and ice climbing at 9.He joined the outdoor rescue（救援）team in Xinjiang.

Alkut's father said, "He wanted to realize his dream by himself. As a father, I was worried, but as a coach and friend, I wanted to support him more."

To prepare, Alkut ran 10 kilometres every morning before going to school.He attended an alpine（高山的）skills training class last year.

His father was very proud. "His abilities have improved a lot," he said.

Jada Fitch is an artist from the USA. She is 1 a bird lover. And she shows her love by building 2 for birds.

Jada enjoys 3 and drawing birds. To get closer to her bird friends, she comes up with a(n) 4 . She makes little houses out of cardboard（硬纸板）and there is some food inside. Then she puts these houses on her windows. So she gets a better view of the 5 .

Last month, I went to Yunnan for my summer holiday with my family. The trip1 really great. Here I'd like to tell you about my trip.

The first morning, we got up early when we were there. We 2 to go sightseeing in Lugu Lake first. We went boating and saw some 3 shows. Then we started to climb up a hill. On the top of the hill, 4 saw beautiful scenery. I really enjoyed staying there.

The second morning we went to Lijiang 5 bus. It took a lot of time to go there. When we arrived there, it was almost in 6 evening. After a short rest, we had a picnic and enjoyed the old streets under the moon.

We went to Kunming, the "spring city", on the third day. We visited Dianchi, watched the birds and went to the flower market. We were a little tired, 7 we had a fantastic day.

The four-day trip was over soon. We should 8 home. I think that Yunnan is 9 place in China. I will never forget the days I spent in Yunnan and I hope 10 it again.

The Qingming Festival is also known as the Tomb- Sweeping Festival. It is a Chinese festival that usually falls on April 4th or5th every year.

On this day, people visit the tombs of their deceased(去世的) family members to show their respect and  how they miss them. It is also a time for families to get together and share the  of their loved ones who have passed away with other family members. In addition to visiting the tombs, people also enjoy outdoor activities flying kites, playing games, and enjoying the spring scenery.

The Qingming Festival is an important day in Chinese culture, as it  us to remember and honor our loved ones who have passed away and also to celebrate life.
