Hello! My name is Helen. I am from the USA. I have a big family. My mother's name is Laura and my father's name is Peter. My parents are very nice. They often make me laugh. On school days, I get up at 6:50 a.m. I take a shower after getting up. Then I have breakfast. I usually have an egg, some milk and bread. After breakfast, I brush my teeth and go to the bus stop. My bus leaves at 7:30 a.m. 

School starts at 8 o'clock. I'm in Class 3, Grade 7. There are three classes in the morning. I have lunch at 12 o'clock at school. After lunch, my friends and I play games. There are two classes in the afternoon. School is over at 5 o'clock. I join the school swimming club. I usually swim for an hour after school. Then I go home.

I like looking at different sports shoes. The different designs (设计) are really cool. I want to know how a shoe designer works!

Hu: Is coming up with a new idea difficult?

Li: People often have wrong ideas about shoe designers. We are not making something new from nothing. We are more like detectives (侦探). As shoe designers, we need to find a design and think about what it is made of, how much money it needs, and what the latest fashion trends (时尚趋势) are. These shoe design "clues (线索)" are all around us, on the internet and so on. My job is to find them.

Hu: What are the steps (步骤) of designing a new pair of shoes?

Li: Product managers (产品经理) first study market trends. I'll design the shoes with these trends in mind. After that, I pass the design on to the development (开发) team. They will make the test product. Problems may show up during this part. For example, the cost (成本) might be too much, or the material (材料) doesn't work. Then I'll work with the team to make changes.

Hu: What does it take to be a good shoe designer?

Li: A good shoe designer should be always thinking about the world. Sometimes, ideas take time to grow in our minds, so we need time to let them grow. It takes at least four years for a shoe designer to be able to (能够) work on their own and have their own style. It's a long but great time. When you finally get a breakthrough (突破) idea, you truly feel special.

I like the Spring Festival best. 

Everyone likes festivals because he or she can do many interesting things at the festivals. I'm Sam and I have a friend called Mike. He is fourteen years old. He comes from China. He lives with his family in Beijing. He loves the Spring Festival best because he can make a good plan for the coming year and have a new start. His mother's favourite festival is Women's Day. It means a break from her work. She usually watches a movie and eats some delicious food on that day. 

Mike has a brother David and a sister Anna. David is twelve years old. Anna is the youngest child and she is only ten years old. Anna likes the Mid-Autumn Festival best. It is a traditional festival in China. People often have family reunions and eat mooncakes to celebrate it. 

I love Children's Day best because I always get some presents from my parents. This year, I have a different way to celebrate Children's Day. I plant a tree with my parents. It's a special gift and I'm happy to help protect the environment (环境). 

Why do we have different seasons?

As our planet moves around the Sun, the light from the Sun falls on the Earth from different directions. This  (help) create the seasons. At different times of year, there  (be) more sunlight in some places, and less sunlight in others. More sunlight means longer days  warmer weather, and this is why we have spring and summer. It gets colder in autumn and winter because the days are shorter and we get less light  the Sun. 

The seasons fall at different times of year around the world. China is north of the equator (赤道). Here, we experience summer from June to August. South of the equator, June, July and August are winter  (month). In Australia, it is summer from December to February, and  (Australia) have their spring when we have our autumn. 

The  (world) hottest and the coldest parts don't have four seasons. It is always hot in places close to the equator. These places are called the tropics. Instead of  (we) four seasons, many parts of the tropics have a  (rain) season and a dry season. Around  North and South Poles, there are only two seasons too: a very, very cold winter and a somewhat less cold summer. 

Lixia, or the Start of Summer, is the  of the 24 Chinese solar terms which falls on May 6 of this year. It symbolizes (象征) the passing from spring  summer. 

With the heat (温度) of summer, plants and crops will begin to grow much . So farmers are always happy to welcome the arrival of Lixia. This is  best time of the year to plant early rice in the southern part of China. Chinese has  of old sayings that are used to warn people not to be lazy during this period of time. 

In China, people celebrate the day of Lixia in different ways. For example, in some places people cook "Five-Colored Rice". Usually, it is made from five  of beans (豆) — mung bean, red bean, yellow bean, black bean and green bean. It stands for people's good wishes for a colorful life. People also have the custom (习俗) of  some different kinds of fresh fruits and vegetables. On the day of Lixia, children will wear a bag with an egg around their necks in some areas. This is believed to help keep  safe and healthy. Other  of Lixia include the singing of beautiful folk songs. And people also weigh themselves on Lixia. When the summer , they'll weigh themselves again to see how many pounds they have lost during the hot season.

This year, there are many exciting exhibitions (展览) like The Glory of the Aegean Sea: The Exhibition of Ancient Greek Civilization at the Nanjing Museum and I am Ashurbanipal: King of Assyria at the Suzhou Museum. 

The museums use new technology (技术), like AI and VR, to make visits more fun. For example, Nanjing's Deji Art Museum lets visitors "walk" into the old paintings and spend time with the characters in them. 

 They make learning about Chinese culture exciting and fun!
