Do you listen to the songs that your parents like? You probably think the music that they like is old and dull and the songs you like are much cooler.

But researchers at the University of Cambridge, the UK, collected data(资料) from more than250,000 people over the past 10 years. They noticed that as people age, their social circumstances(环境) change, and so does their music taste. There are three musical periods that people pass through as they grow. The first period comes in the teenage years, during which time people like rock because people regard themselves as independent individuals(个体).

But as people move into early adulthood, their lifestyle changes—— they get to know more people and want to build close relationships with others. As a result, they prefer pop which are often played at parties.

When middle age comes, people like to listen to jazz and classical. They also like country, folk,and blues,"During this period of life, many people often feel tired because of their work and family,and there is a requirement for relaxing and emotive(动情的) music." said Jason Smith, a research member.

You must be thinking:"Aren't there old people who still love rock music?" Of course there are.But Jason Smith explained that their reasons for listening to rock music may have changed."We use music for different reasons," he said, and at that age people may listen to remind themselves of their youths(青春).

A study showed that there are more pets than children in American families. Amazed? Keeping pets at home has several advantages(优点)!

 Whether you believe it or not, keeping pets is a great way to make you happy. Research has shown that people who are ill have fewer chances of falling into a depression(沮丧 ) if they keep pets compared to those patients who don't keep pets.

Pets can warn you of danger. We all know that dogs will bark when they sense someone near the house and that can be very good for home safety. However, pets can sense far more than just a stranger. No matter what kind of pets you get, animals seem to have a sense of danger that we don't always have, and that may save your life!

Chinese people usually give money in red envelopes(信封) as gifts.This is one of the most  New Year's traditions in China. In fact,there are similar traditions in some other Asian countries  JapanSouth Korea, and Malaysia.

During the New Year's season, kids in Japan usually receive otoshidama  means lucky money in Japanese. Similar to theChinese tradition, Japanese place the money in envelopes, these envelopes are in many colors rather than just red.

In South Korea, parents and grandparents give  lucky money. However, they don't use envelopes. Instead, the money is  in lucky bags.

In Malaysia, there is a special local holiday in spring. People usually give money in green envelopes to the guests when they come to   them during the holiday. They also give money to the elders to wish  good health and long life.

Whether through different colors of envelopes or lucky bags, these traditions show people's wishes to  joy and good luck to their loved ones. As we celebrate the Chinese New Year , remember that the true value of red envelopes is not in the money but in the act of giving.

In many British schools, the pupils usually wear their school uniforms to school on weekdays. However, recently the students at LVS Ascot Junior School in England wore something quite different. What they wore was what people wear when they go to bed—— pajamas(睡衣). They did this for fun and also for a local charity(慈善) called Christopher's Smile.

Christopher's Smile was set up in 2008 by Karen and Kevin Capel whose only son Christopher died of cancer(癌症) at a young age. Christopher's Smile aims to raise money for more research into children's cancers. 60. Since then, the charity has raised a lot of money and gotten more and more volunteers.

The students of Grade 6 at LVS Ascot Junior School organized the event Pajama Day to support Christopher' s Smile."We wanted to raise money for our charity in a way that the whole school could join in it so each pupil paid I pound to wear his or her pajama to school on PajamaDay," said a young organizer.

Both the students and their teachers took part in the event with great interest. Together they not only raised some money, but also had a good time.
