Students from Beijing Academy develop unique cultural products

In early November，2024，13-year-old Lin Jiawen，a student at Beijing Academy，bought a rabbit card holder made by the school's Cultural Creativity Club. It cost just 7. 9 yuan. "I love this design because it has our school's logo （标志），" said Lin. 

 It is started after a school trip to Henan earlier this year. "The province's rich culture inspired （启发） us to create products that mix tradition with modern style. " said Peng Shaohang，14，one of the club's founders. 

The club has made two main products：the Tiger-head Shoes Pen and the Rabbit Card Holder. In Chinese culture，tiger-head shoes bring good luck and health. They kept the tiger-head design but added a modern touch by using school's name on the pattern.  

The Rabbit Card Holder was inspired by the rabbits raised in school that the students really like. It also includes the school motto （校训）： "Benevolence，Wisdom，Courage，and Happiness （仁、智、勇、乐）. " Each rabbit shows one of these values. For example，the benevolent rabbit plants trees to protect the environment. The wise rabbit flies a drone （无人机） to show intelligence and science.  

The club's products are sold both online and offline.  "Through creativity and hard work，we're making a real change in our school and community，" said Kan Zhixing，14，a member of the club.

①In China，when students finish college，they usually either keep studying or start working. Getting a master's degree （硕士学位） has been very popular in the last few years. But now it seems that this is changing. 

② On Nov 21，the Ministry of Education said that 3. 88 million people will take part in this year's exams to get into master's degree programs. This sounds like a lot，but the number is 500，000 less than that of last year and 860，000 less than the year before.

④ Also，having a master's degree might not help much in getting a good job now，according to Xiong Bingqi，director of the Century Education Research Institute. "Many people with high degrees are ending up in low-paying jobs，" Xiong told Changjiang Daily. Because of this，some students are choosing vocational schools （职业学校） instead. They think learning specific skills might help them get jobs more easily. 

⑤ In this case，experts suggest that colleges should do more to help students learn what they need for future jobs. Also，schools should change their programs to match what companies are looking for. 

①On Nov. 5，LignoSat，the world's first wooden satellite （卫星），went into space from Florida，US，reported The Guardian. 

② LignoSat was developed by the Kyoto University and the company Sumitomo Forestry in Japan. Shaped like a little cube （立方体），the satellite is only about the size of your hand. It will fly around Earth at a height of about 400 kilometers. 

③ The goal is to see if wood can be used for future space missions（任务）. LignoSat is made from a kind of magnolia tree traditionally used to make sword cases （剑鞘） in Japan. The satellite will spend six months in space. The electronic sensors on it will record its performance for scientists to check if it can deal with the hard environment in space. There，it can be as cold as -100° and as hot as 100 ℃. 

④ Wood is a good choice for space missions because there is no water or air there to make it rot （腐烂） or catch fire，Koji Murata，a scientist at Kyoto University，told Reuters.
