Being a volunteer is a good way to make our society better. If you don't know what volunteer work you can do, here are 4 activities.

First, you can go to the old people's homes to offer them your care. It is a good act to look after old people and you will find that they are much more talented and experienced than your friends and classmates. You will see that they will add value to your lives more than you will add to theirs.

Second, nursing home for patients is a good place to start your volunteer activities. You can look after them and make friends with them. In fact, having sick people around you will make you look at situations in a different way, and embrace (拥抱) the beauty and joy of life.

Third, English is widely used. If you are fluent (流利的) in English, you can help those who would like to learn. They can be children, village students, adults, or anyone who wants to learn a new language. As for the places, it can be in an English club or the community service center.

Fourth, if you are an animal lover, you'd better not buy dogs or cats from pet shops. You can adopt (收养) street dogs or cats. If you don't want to keep a pet, you can donate some money or look after the lovely animals in an animal shelters.

There is no act better than lending a hand in helping build a better society. Choose one to do and you will find everyone can do much and make a great difference.

Was it a dream or not? In my dreams the world is very  (difference). Last night I dreamed that I was in Africa. It was strange for  (I) because I've never been there. Maybe it was because I watched an  (interest) program about Africa on TV before I went to bed. And then  (sudden) my dream changed and I was in Turkey. I could speak Turkish and English perfectly. Oh, I'd like to speak English  (well) than I can now. If I learn to speak English really well, then I think it  (help) me become a journalist—that's what I want to be, not a movie director, as I was in another dream I had last week. 

Sometimes many good things happen in dreams. For example, the world has fewer  (problem), and everybody can be friends. And bread grows on trees,  no one could be hungry. Everyone can have a big house. But you know, bad things happen in dreams, too. It wasn't too long ago that I had a nightmare (噩梦)!  my surprise, I failed a test!!! But this has never happened really. Because when I woke up, my teacher  (stand) by my desk and looking at me—I must have fallen asleep when I finished the test!

Zheng Xiaohui is a Chinese student in Milan, Italy. To spread (传播) traditional Chinese 1 to the world, she has given lots of erhu shows.

Zheng has been playing the erhu 2 she was 9. And she has won prizes in many music competitions. She arrived in Italy in 2021. Starting from April 2023, she has been performing 3 during her free time. And now she does three or four street shows a month.

There are more than 300 different sign languages all over the world. To make people know the importance of sign languages, in 2018 the United Nations chose September 23rd as the International Day of Sign Languages (IDSL). On that day, there are many activities in China. Last year, many volunteers taught sign language to doctors and nurses in a hospital in Lianyungang, Jiangsu province.

It could help them communicate with deaf people better. In a library in Haikou, Hainan province, children and sign language lovers learned to sing songs using sign language. They also played games together. Everyone had a great time there.

Zhu Xiaolong, 35, teaches math at the Weifeng Central School in Huyi district of Xi'an in Shaanxi province. He is also a football coach for the students.

Speaking about his roles, Zhu said, "I want to become the best football coach among math teachers, and the best math teacher among football coaches."

In 2013, Zhu had the idea of starting a football club in the school. The following year, the first football club in Huyi district was set up. However, it was hard at first to teach the students as many children there had never touched a football before. "I carefully plan each day, making the most of every minute," Zhu said. "While trying to improve the quality of math teaching, I also organize training for the football club at noon and during class breaks."

Slowly, more and more children became interested in football and joined the club. Over the last ten years, Zhu has taught more than 200 students football and guided the school team to three wins in the district league. In 2020, they finished third in the group at the city-level league, and in 2021, they were the sixth among all teams in the city.

"As a math teacher, I have never thought that I could go this far in football teaching," Zhu said. "No matter math or football, my final goal is to help my students, so they can be healthy both physically and mentally, and enjoy happiness at school."

My hometown is Cambridge, a beautiful city in the east of England. It is on the River Cam and has a population of about 120,000. And it is especially famous for its university. Many famous people studied here, such as Isaac Newton and Charles Darwin. There are lots of old buildings and churches to visit. Students and tourists enjoy trips along the river by boat.

Cambridge is 80 kilometers from London. London is in the south of England. It has a population of about seven and a half million, so it is bigger and busier than Cambridge. It is about 2,000 years old, and it is famous for Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and Tower Bridge.

England itself is part of an island, and you are always near the sea. The small villages and beaches on the coast are popular for holidays. Tourists like the areas of low mountains and beautiful lakes in the north, and the hills and pretty villages in the south. Everywhere in England, you will notice how green the countryside is.

It is never very hot in summer or very cold in winter. So come and see England any time of the year, but bring an umbrella with you. You will need it most days.
