How to Improve Time Management Skills

Good time management is the key to a happy and well-organized holiday, but many students face challenges.

Michael J. Fox once said, "Family is not an important thing. It's everything." This is completely true for a Mexican family.

For Mexicans, their family is the most important social organization. In traditional Mexican culture, the whole family unit usually stays closely connected. Nowadays, more and more young couples move out to start their own families in separate houses, but they still live close to their extended families (大家庭).

Traditional Mexican families are man-centered. The father is the bread-winning member of the home. The mother looks after the children, cooks and do other chores. She is the heart of the family.

But the men have complete authority (权威). The modern lifestyle has made some changes. More and more women step out of home and find a job. However, this has added pressure on the women, as the men still haven't started helping out with the housework.

Mexicans believe unity (团 结 ) is strength, so Mexican families prefer to give support and practical guidance to each other. Mexican family culture is known for the loyalty (忠诚) and respect among one another. If a family member is facing a money problem, Mexicans are always ready to help. They'll provide money or help him/her find work.

Mexican family life and traditions are closely connected with each other. Mexicans live by the rule: Family comes first.

Once upon a time, there was an old man named Sai Weng. One day, he lost his horse. His neighbors came (comfort) him, thinking that this was a big loss. , Sai Weng said, "Who knows if this is not a blessing in disguise (因祸得福)?"

A few days (late), the lost horse returned, bringing back a few good  (horse) with it. Sai Weng's neighbors were surprised and congratulated him on his good luck. But Sai Weng said calmly, "Who knows if this is not a curse(诅咒)in disguise?"

One day, Sai Weng's son rode one of the horses and had  accident, breaking his leg. His neighbors felt sorry for him again, but Sai Weng remained calm and said, "Who knows if this is not a blessing in disguise?"

Finally, during a war, all young men in the village were  (require) to go to the battlefield, but because Sai Weng's son had a  (break) leg, he was able to stay at home  (safe).

This story tells us sometimes what  (seem) like a loss may turn out to be a blessing, and vice versa (反之亦然). We should look  things with a broad perspective (视角) and not be too worried or sad when faced with setbacks.

It is normal for the young to worship (崇拜) cool and good-looking young "idols." We spend a lot of time caring about them—even more time than we spend on our studies or work.

 Few of them might be kind, hard-working and honest or behave (表现) well. They shouldn't enjoy such popularity at all!

As a teenager, worshiping pop idols was also one of my hobbies until one day, some "bad" news came out.  From then on, I started questioning about the real them. I realized that we'd better say "no" to wrong idols.

Some idols still show us good things in life with their hard work. Some reports often say that idols can always live a fun life easily with only little work.  I believe the best actors, the most popular singers and the top-ranking sports stars all have scars (伤疤) when facing many difficulties. These experiences may make them better.

We should celebrate people who teach us important values to guide us on the road ahead. The next time you see some pretty, popular "stars", ask yourself, "Do I really need these people in my life?"

①One morning, I got up early and decided to make an apple pie for my mum. I called my grandma for help, followed a TV program to make jam and waited excitedly. I enjoyed every step so much that I didn't notice three hours pass by. Although the pie looked terrible and was not that delicious, Mum ate it up and told me it was the best pie that she had ever had. For the first time, I realized that although I didn't make the pie successfully, I really enjoyed the process.

②The process is important because it brings us something bigger than the result itself. That is, we always have new experiences during the process, which may help us improve our skills or form good relationships with others. If we just concentrate on (聚焦于) the result and do not enjoy the process, we will be more likely (可能的) to feel disappointed and want to give up. As a result, we will never understand the real meaning of success.

③But in this busy world, we see a lot of successful people are in competition. How can we enjoy the process? Well, the question has the answer in itself.

④Don't always compare yourself with others. First of all, we are all different. And success means different things to us. For some, success means being famous, while for others, it may be health or power. Ride your own ride.

⑤Slow down. You need to stop expecting immediate (即时的) results in what you do and learn to be patient. Impatience leads to unhappiness. Do it slowly, but never stop.

⑥Reward (奖励) yourself. Divide the process into small steps, and give yourself a reward after completing each of them. Rewarding yourself for small wins can go a long way. For example, if you are in the process of losing weight, enjoy your favorite cake once in a while.
