The Journey of Marco Polo

Marco Polo was born in Italy in 1254. At the age of 17, he began an amazing journey to China with his father and uncle. Their trip along the Silk Road lasted over three years, crossing dangerous deserts and high mountains. When they finally arrived in China in 1275, they met Emperor Kublai Khan (忽必烈汗) of the Yuan Dynasty.

During his 17 years in China, Marco Polo learned Chinese and worked for the emperor. He traveled widely and saw many wonderful things that Europeans had never seen before. One of his most exciting discoveries was a special frozen dessert called "binglao". Chinese people enjoyed it in summer. Marco Polo was so amazed that he carried the idea all the way back to Europe. Later, it developed into modern ice cream.

When Marco Polo returned to Italy in 1295, people didn't believe his stories about China at first. Later, he wrote a famous book called The Travels of Marco Polo. His descriptions of Chinese inventions like paper money, coal (煤), and even the summer ice dessert opened Europeans' eyes to new possibilities.

Short videos are very popular nowadays. And many people spend much time on them.A recent study surveyed (调查)1,557 Chinese people about their short video watching habits.It found that people may get lost in short videos and they cannot stop watching them.

There are many different kinds of ball games in the world. Volleyball (be) one of them. Do you want (know) more about it? Let's find   out together!

Volleyball is a team sport. Two teams of players play it on a court(场地) that is 18 metres long  9 metres wide. Each of them (try) to get points by grounding(使落地) a ball on the other team's court. The players (usual) play the ball with their hands or arms. They can also push the ball with any part of the body.

Do you know who invented volleyball? Do you know when volleyball became an Olympic sport? The history (begin) in Holyoke, a town in the northeast of the USA, in 1895. that year,  PE teacher named William G. Morgan invented volleyball. It was just four years after basketball was invented.  time went by, it became more and more popular with people all over the world. And it became an Olympic sport in the 1964 Summer Olympics.

Thirty-two years later in the 1996 Summer Olympics, beach volleyball also became an Olympic sport. Two teams of two players play it on a sand court.

Now volleyball is a very popular sport and people in more than 200 (country) and areas play it.

Good morning, everyone! Today I'd like to share my idea about happiness with you. I think real happiness lies in sports and growing up. Let me give you an  (例子).

There was a young student. His biggest   (梦想) was to become a good runner. He never  (比较) himself with top players around him. Instead, he was always  (自信的) about training and himself. To keep healthy and stay energetic for running, he hardly ate sweet food like  (巧克力).

Happiness often stays with sports. There were two girls in a running match last week.   of them gave up halfway. They ran fast towards . On the way, one girl almost  down, but she kept going. At last, they crossed it together and broke a new . All people were  at their strong will. Real happiness come from never giving up.

Three years ago, I got to know a poor lady named Rose. She had no children and lived 1 . So whenever I 2 her, I always brought her some coffee and food. One day she invited me to have lunch at a restaurant near her home. I began to worry on the way, "I knew that she had no money, but if I offered to 3 the lunch, I was afraid I would hurt her."

①Research shows that kindness makes people feel happy. But why and how does it happen? Here are a number of different ways.  

②Being kind can make someone smile. If you see yourself smile in a situation, people around you may be smiling, too. This is especially true for your close friends and family. A kind act (行为) makes someone who is sad feel better. It can also make ourselves feel good. 

③Secondly, being kind starts or develops a social connection(联系) with others. Kind acts like buying someone a gift make friendships stronger. Research shows that spending money on others' needs may help you get a stronger feeling of happiness than spending it on yourself.  

④Then another study shows that if one person is kind, he or she makes others in the group kind. Imagine (设想) that you make cakes for the office and it makes others do it each month. Then you're getting cakes a lot more days than providing(提供) them.  

⑤The story doesn't end here. Research also shows that if you're in a good mood (心情), you can act much more kindly. This makes it a wonderful two-way relationship, doesn't it? 

Children now usually sit all day and spend their time in front of the screens. That's not good for their health. They should play more sports because sports are fun and really important for children.

Firstly, playing sports helps children keep healthy. Many children today don't get enough exercise. This is one of the reasons why they are becoming too heavy. Sports are a great way to get them moving. If a child likes football and takes part in football games twice a week, he or she will be strong.

Playing sports can also help children to accept failure (接受失败). Of course it is important to win a game, but if they lose a game, can't they learn something? So it's also important for children to accept failure. And then they can move on.

Playing a team sport also teaches children how to work together. Knowing how to work as a team is good for their lives. Team sports such as football and volleyball help improve this skill. Children can learn how to work out problems, and how to work together to make a common goal come true.

In short, sports are one of the most important things for children to keep healthy both in body and in mind. Children must play more sports. 

Once there was a poor little girl living near a forest. She had no family so she often felt sad.

One day, when she was walking in the forest, she found that a small butterfly was trapped in a small tree and couldn't move. The little girl helped the butterfly with great care. It became a beautiful fairy.

"Thank you for helping me. I will do one thing for you," said the fairy. The little girl thought for a moment and then said, "I want to be   ▲   !" The fairy said, "Very well. I will help you." And she said some words in the little girl's ear. Then the fairy flew away.

As the little girl grew, she was always ready to help people in need. She felt happy every day. Nobody knew why she was so happy.

Many years later, the girl became very old and would die soon. Before she died, all the people in the small village stood around her bed because they really wanted to know her secret of being happy.

She said, "When I was a little girl, a beautiful fairy told me everyone needed me, no matter how rich or poor, no matter how old or young. Helping others would make me happy all my life."
