Imagine you are in an autonomous vehicle (AV, 自动驾驶车辆) and face this terrible choice: The car must either turn left and hit an 8-year-old girl, or turn right and hit many walkers. On top of this "moral dilemma (道德困境)", if the car doesn't turn, you could be in danger. What decision would you want the car to make?

When AVs face dangerous situations, should they save people in the car first or walkers? Should they put the greater good above one person's safety? These questions have been under discussion for years, but there is no perfect answer.

"A moral dilemma is a dilemma; it has no clear answer," wrote Derek Leben, a professor at the Tepper School of Business, US, in his paper.

Iyad Radhwan, an MIT scientist studied these questions. He found out that people often think about their own safety first. "People buying these cars, they want cars that protect the passengers. But they want other people's cars to protect walkers instead."

AVs bring not only moral dilemmas but also problems with rules. If there is an accident, who should be responsible?

In July, 2024, a self-driving taxi by Baidu hit a walker in Wuhan, Hubei, who ran a red light. Baidu worked with the police and took the walker to the hospital. In another accident in Seattle, US, in April, 2024, it was decided that the "driver" should be responsible because he was on his phone while in the full self-driving mode (模式).

The situations of different accidents caused by AVs are so complex (复杂的) that "now there are no very clear laws about it", said Ji Xuehong, a researcher from North China University of Technology.

Jess Bhamra is the 18-year-old daughter of an Indian family in London. Jules Paxton is the same age and the daughter of an English family. Jess is crazy about football, but because she's a girl, she isn't allowed to play.

Sometimes she plays in the park with some boys and one day, Jules, who also plays football, sees Jess playing. They get on really well and Jules invites Jess to try out for the local women's football team coached by Joe. When he sees how good Jess is, Joe puts her in the team. When Jess's parents find out that she's been playing football without their knowing, they make her stop.

When she shows up, there are only thirty minutes left and her team are losing 1-0. Soon, the score is 1-1, and when there's a free kick, Jess has to bend the ball around the other team's players to score. She makes it, and the team wins!

A university in California offers soccer scholarships (奖学金) to Jess and Jules. Jess's parents finally agree to let her go. Jess and Jules set off for America and both of them become top players in their team. Their parents feel proud because they make their dreams come true.

Heat packs (暖宝宝贴) are helpful to many of us in the cold winter. However, sometimes a heat pack can swell (膨胀) too much. Is it dangerous?

The official mascots of the 2026 Spring Festival Gala were recently released, winning great popularity online. They are four lively horses (name) Qiqi, Jiji, Chichi and Chengcheng, which perfectly match the Gala's theme "Galloping Forward, Unstoppable (骐骥驰骋，势不可挡)".

Each mascot has a rich cultural story. Qiqi gets ideas from a Western Zhou bronze object, and its colour is (base) upon the meaning of "Qi"—a blackish-green horse. Jiji is designed after the Han Dynasty's "heavenly horse", with its (wing) spread wide as if flying toward the sun. Chichi comes from the Tang Dynasty's "three-flower horse", a symbol of high status (地位) in ancient times, standing tall with (confident). Chengcheng's prototype is the Przewalski's horse, special wild kind called a "living fossil" with a 60-million-year development history.

All four mascots are decorated with traditional cloud patterns. These patterns not only make them much (pretty) but also carry deep cultural meanings. They are symbols good wishes like "success at once" for the new year.

For young people, these mascots are a wonderful chance (learn) about ancient Chinese art and culture in a fun way. their release (发布), they have won hearts of many people with their charm. We are all looking forward to (see) them shine on the stage.

China has completed BeiDou Navigation Satellite System, or BDS. It provides navigation and location service 24 hours a day. From what we have known , building a good satellite system costs a lot. BDS has the short message service. It users to have a two-way communication. In areas notby communication signals, BDS can make the short message received in deserts, forests and mountains. this service, users in danger can tell the rescue team their location. For China, as the most populous country in the world, it's really to have its own system to meet the needs of the country's . With continuous improvement, it will have much more to offer in the future.

When I was a middle school student, my English teacher asked me to enter a writing competition. I said no without1 , because English was only my second language and I am poor in writing.

Second, when you're on the plane, please DO put your bag at a proper place — the overhead space above your seat. DON'T place it in an overhead space above an empty seat.  I get to my seat and the overhead spaces above my seat on either side are already filled with bags. So I have to put my bag in the space that is far from my seat.

Third, DO keep your voice down. If you want to talk to your travel mates, please DON'T speak loudly.  Once I was asleep. All of a sudden, someone laughed out loud and I was woken up. It was not fun.

Fourth, if you have to use an airplane bathroom, please DO clean up after yourself.  Please DON'T think it is the duty of the workers on the plane to clean up your mess.

I truly believe that if we all take these air travel tips, our flying experiences will be more enjoyable.

Reshi completed a 12-page children's book, Alice and Sparkle, with the help of a chatbot called ChatGPT. A chatbot is a computer program that uses AI to imitate human thinking and writing. The book's text was produced using it, and Reshi created illustrations (插图) using another AI program, Midjourney, which translates words into images.

When Reshi posted the book online. It was really popular with the children. And some people praised him for his intelligence. However, not everyone was pleased. Some artists were critical (批判性的). They pointed out the poor quality of the artwork. The more serious problem, they said, was the way the art was made.

Midjourney searches through millions of images across the Internet. It uses algorithms (算法) to find patterns in those images and create new ones. Think of the artists who upload their works online. Midjourney uses their works without their permission (允许).

Some companies have already chosen AI over human talent. At a comedy club, an AI-powered robot told jokes, instead of human beings. And the San Francisco Ballet used images generated by Midjourney to make its ballet show The Nutcracker more popular by advertising.

Many artists and writers are nervous about their future. Will people pay them for their work if it can be done more cheaply by using AI?

"As a person who makes money and finds joy in the writing, I'm troubled to see people look for cheap alternatives (替代品) rather than actual human writing," journalist Josephine says.

There should be protections for artists and authors whose work might be used in AI algorithms. There's real concern. The tech industry that's working on these tools should involve artists in the process of creation.

Change is actually happening all around us. Whether it is the change of season from winter to spring, change of favorite song, or it may even be a change of friendships.

Change is something that influences everybody, but we don't all experience or react to change in the same way. Some people are as "jumpy as a kangaroo" and can be affected by even a little change. However, other people can be as "cool as a cucumber".

It's important to know that young people are not always physically or mentally ready to deal with changes. That's because young peoples' brains are still growing, and different parts have different functions (功能). That's fantastic and interesting. The back part of your brain is all about keeping us alive, the middle of your brain controls your emotions, and the front part, also known as the prefrontal cortex, is still developing affecting your thoughts, big decisions and actions. These parts together can help you respond (反应) quickly in an emergency.

For example, when the brain thinks the body may be in danger, the awareness of risks activates the sympathetic nervous system (交感神经系统) and leads to a quick stress response. It makes the heart beat faster so that it sends blood quickly to the different body parts that might need it. It prepares the body to fight or escape.

When something unexpected happens, it can be not so easy to manage. So it's normal for you teenagers to feel stressed when you are faced with a tough situation or decision. What you need to remember is this: you have a say in how you react to change. Rather than treat change like an enemy, we need to allow it to become our greatest friend.

"Now I'm hungry. I know where there's a great apple tree." Flora said to Emily, "It belongs to an old lady called Susan. I heard she's stubborn (固执的), but sometimes she gives fruit in return for an errand (跑腿)."

"Let's go!" Emily said. Flora's heart beat quickly as Emily knocked on the door.

Beijing opera is very famous and people from all  the world like it. David from England is  lover of it, too.

Several years ago, David  (study) it at a university in Europe. Each student in the school had to go to another country to study the traditional opera there. David decided(go) to China to learn Beijing opera.
