Anew artificial intelligence (AI) tool could be used to predict (预测) our future health conditions, according to researchers in London.
Experts from a number of different universities and hospitals have been trying out a tool they developed called Foresight.
It has been trained on the health care data (数据) of real patients, and it uses deep learning to recognize patterns in the data and identify (辨认)future symptoms, medications, conditions and procedures. In other words, it's a simulation (模拟) of what someone's future health will look like.
The results of tests on Foresight have now been published in The Lancet Digital Health.
Three different models of Foresight were trained on sets of health data from more than 800, 000 patients in the UK and the US.
In order to check how accurate(准确的) the tool was, the researchers compared its predictions with what really happened to a smaller number of patients whose medical records they studied.
It's said that its predictions were correct 88% of the time.
But this isn't a tool for predicting the future, said Zeljko Kraljevic, the study's first author, and it isn't designed to help patients diagnose themselves.
He said it could be used to help doctors to make decisions about a patient.
"The more data it receives, the better it gets, " he added.
The researchers said more testing is needed, and they're looking for hospitals to help test a more accurate version, to be called Foresight 2.

UK expert Alastair Ruffell has found that 200—300 million years ago, before the land mass(陆块) of Earth separated into continents, it did rain non-stop for up to two million years. * Dr Ruffell said this helped the development of animals and plants all over the globe. He believes the rain may have been sparked by a huge rise in humidity(湿度)following a series of huge volcanic eruptions(火山喷发).
Dr Ruffell based his findings on research conducted on layers of rock in Europe's Alps in the 1970s and1980s. The data showed unusual deposits (沉积物) in ancient rock that dated back over 200 million years. Dr Ruffell said this suggests the wet period may have been the "trigger(诱因)" that allowed dinosaurs, and possibly "other members of our modern land-based animals" to diversify (多样化). Hurricanes (飓风) can damage buildings, coasts, and roads. They can also affect 199/8/people's lives. A new study shows that one group might have a higher chance of dying because of hurricanes.
Researchers from the University of Michigan studied how hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Florence affected how long people with Alzheimer's disease(阿尔茨海默病) and related memory problems lived.
In a study published in JAMA Network Open, the researchers wrote that older adults with Alzheimer's disease and other memory problems are especially at risk during disasters because they rely on others for help. Previous studies have found that more people died after hurricanes, but not much is known about how it affects older adults with memory problems. So, they looked at how hurricanes affected the number of deaths among older adults with memory problems in the US.
Based on their research, older adults with memory problems who experienced hurricanes Harvey and Irma had a higher chance of passing away compared to those who were not affected. The study looked at about 350, 000people in each group. Within a year of the hurricanes, 54, 340 people with memory problems passed away, with10. 9% of the deaths linked to hurricane Harvey and 6. 2%to hurricane Irma.

In 1971, the US table tennis team was at the World Championship in Japan. The team from the People's Republic of China was also there. * This championship took place during the days of the Cold War, so the American and the Chinese players didn't even talk to each other.
Glen Cowan, from the US team, didn't like the situation. One day, he saw a Chinese player and invited him to play. They played together for 15 minutes, and Cowan missed the US bus back to the hotel.
Then, something surprising happened. One of the Chinese players waved to Cowan from the Chinese bus. He thought for a moment and then he got on the bus. But the Chinese players didn't talk to him. Suddenly, Zhuang Zedong, three times world champion, came up to Cowan. "What are you doing?" said the other Chinese players. "Don't talk to him! Don't make trouble!" Zedong gave Cowan a silk scarf. "I give you this to show the friendship of the Chinese people to the American people, " he said through a translator. Cowan wanted to give something back, but he didn't have anything with him.

According to the UN Environment Program, 400million tons of plastic waste is produced around the world each year.
H, less than 10% of the plastic waste humans have produced has actually been recycled. And a new report says big companies have misled(误导) the public about the reality of rfor years.
Called The Fraud of Plastic Recycling, the report spetrochemical (石油化工) companies——companies that produce products from fossil fuels(化石燃料), iplastics— have been promising to recycle plastic for many years, but they know it is not p.
The report says that, as early as 1991, the US Environmental Protection Agency bthat only two types of plastic could be recycled into high-quality products.
But many o plastic products are collected for recycling. In f, instead of being recycled, they're exported(出口), burned, sent to landfill sites, or dumped in the ocean.
But the report says that even plastic that can be recycled can only be recycled o or maybe twice. So all plastic becomes waste in the e—— recycling just puts it off.
