As long as I can recall, family dinners have always been a part of my life. Since I was a little boy, my mom has always told us that we must have family dinners at least once a week. So every Sunday, a big meal  (cook) all morning and then brought to my grandma's house. Then we wait for all family members to come before we eat at the table, my grandma's old wooden table.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a way of looking after our bodies in China. It's different from modern medicine that we usually see in hospitals. TCM uses natural methods to help us stay healthy and feel better.

One of the most famous parts of TCM is herbs (草药). For example, if we cough, TCM-trained doctors may give us herbal tea to make our throats feel better. These herbs are like natural medicine, which our body can use to combat the diseases.

Another part of TCM is acupuncture (针刺疗法). Acupuncture uses thin needles (针头) that are gently put into our skin. It might sound scary, but it's not painful at all. These needles help to make us feel better.

 ▲  TCM-trained doctors believe that if we eat healthy food and live a balanced life, we can stay healthy and avoid getting sick. They might advise us on what foods are good for our bodies and what activities we can do to be active and strong.

Chinese people have been using TCM for thousands of years. It's a part of our culture, and we believe in its power to make us feel better. Even though we have modern medicine now, many people still use TCM because they find it helpful.

So, if you need medical help someday, remember there's Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is like a treasure known to the people of China for a long time. More importantly, it works very well!

Last Spring Festival, something special happened on the "Tiangong" space station.     It was the year of 2026. While families across China were busy making dumplings and setting off fireworks, three astronauts were having a unique "New Year's Eve dinner" about 250 miles above the Earth. They were the members of the Shenzhou-21 team. 

Among all the delicious food brought from Earth, there was one special dish—fresh tomatoes. These were not ordinary tomatoes, though. They were grown on the space station!

Astronaut Wu Fei was very excited when he showed the red tomatoes to the camera. "Look at them!" he said with a big smile. "They look so fresh and sweet" How did tomatoes grow in the sky? The answer is a special machine called an aeroponic system (气培系统). This machine helps plants grow without soil. It sprays a fine mist (水雾) of water and nutrients on the roots. This saves a lot of water and energy. Special LED lights (LED灯) provide the right light for the plants. 

The astronauts took good care of these "space kids." They checked on them every day and wrote down their growth data. Mr. Wu told us, "Taking care of plants in space is very hard, but seeing them grow makes us feel close to home. "

This year's space tomatoes are more than just food. They are a symbol of China's scientific progress (科技进步). In the future, we may even eat rice and vegetables grown in space. When we eat these tomatoes on Earth, we will remember the brave astronauts who are working hard to explore the universe. 

I suppose everyone has something they don't like about themselves. For me, it was the birthmark on my face. It was bright red, the color of a strawberry. 

Sometimes, I felt people secretly looking at my face. But when I turned my head, they looked away. On crowded buses and trains, it felt just like a disaster. With so many people around me, my birthmark burnt red hot. Therefore, I always kept my hair long to cover it until that day. 

It was a cloudy morning. A new student named Maddie arrived in our class. She sat right beside me. Instead of looking away, Maddie studied my face. This made me so nervous. Clouds came through the window and filled my heart. Suddenly, she said something I would never forget. 

"Sally, right?" she said. "You have a red rose on your face. How beautiful!" 

I looked up and met her smiling eyes. Although I only replied "thank you", it turned sunny in my heart. When I got home, I rushed to the bathroom and looked in the mirror. For the first time, I could look at my birthmark without quickly turning away. The shape of it was truly like a flower. The next day, to my surprise, Maddie painted a red rose on her own face! 

I haven't told Maddie the whole story yet. Anyway, she has changed me. I have already learnt that I am what I am. Everyone has something special and different—that is what's interesting.

You must know the Chinese saying, "Reading ten thousand books is like travelling ten thousand miles." Books are important in our lives. Reading books is good for us. It can help us know and understand the world better. It can help us get a lot of knowledge. It brings us a new and different world that we have never been to before. Almost all the great people like reading, like Shakespeare and Madame Curie (居里夫人) . In a word, books are helpful to us and we must love them. But before you read, remember to choose a good one. Ask your parents or teachers about what books to read. Be sure you are interested in them. There are different kinds of books. I like biography (传记) because I can learn something from the characters. What about you? Do you like comic books or storybooks or any other kind?

A seal is an important cultural symbol in both Eastern and Western cultures. In traditional Chinese culture, a seal stands for people's rights  serves as a special token(信物). So in ancient times, when communication was not very convenient, seals became especially  in daily life.

Before the Qin Dynasty, seals were called "Xi". Because seals were small and  to carry, almost everyone, from emperors to common people, had their own seals. By the Northern Song Dynasty, as culture and art became richer, seals slowly changed from a useful tool to a  of culture and art. During this period, two main  took place. First, with the wide use of paper, emperors started using larger seals. Second, people started to make seals from all kinds of stones. This helped the art of seal carving(雕刻) develop  than before.

Artists and poets of the Song Dynasty gave seals a new kind of beauty. As a result, seals became  valuable to collect. But people did not stop there — they  different ways to use seals in different times.

Today, many people love collecting seals to remember their travels. This makes seal culture popular . These small seals  a long history and great beauty. They still look beautiful as time goes by.

What's the most interesting plant you've ever seen? If you say cacti, you're not alone! Many people love cacti because of their special shapes, sizes and characteristics.

Cacti come in many different forms. They can be short and fat, tall and thin, or somewhere in between. Some cacti are no bigger than a coin, while others look like tall green columns(柱子). For example, the largest cactus, the saguaro, can grow up to 20 meters tall and weigh several tons. Some cacti are even named after things they look like, such as the moon cactus, the old man cactus, and rabbit ears. These interesting names make them even more popular among plant lovers.

Like camels, cacti can take in a lot of water quickly. They have large root systems(系统) that can collect water after rain. The water is stored inside their thick stems. It appears thick and cloudy. In some kinds of cacti, the water is safe to drink and has helped people survive when they were lost in the desert.

Most cacti are covered with amazing protective spines(刺). These spines help cacti in many ways. They keep animals from eating the plants. If you've ever touched a cactus, you know how painful it can be. Besides protection, the spines also provide some shade for cacti. This shade helps reduce water loss, which is very important in dry places.

A few kinds of cacti can grow beautiful flowers — but only at certain times. For example, the queen of the night cactus only opens its white flowers at night.

Imagine a world without texts or emails. That's hard to picture because we use them every day! But long ago, ancient people also found ways to send messages far away. For example, early Australians used smoke to send messages as early as 15,000 B.C.

As time went on, people built better systems(系统) to send messages. Around 2400 B.C., Egypt started the first postal(邮政的) system. Later, in 1000 B.C., China made it even better by using a relay(接力) system with stations and fresh horses. This way, messages could travel up to 200 miles in a single day. Around 600 B.C., Persia improved things further by building roads from Turkey to India and using one language for messages. Their excellent riders could finish a three-month trip on foot in just over a week! However, at that time, these systems were only for government messages.

But over time, things began to change. By the Middle Ages, common people and businesses started their own mail networks.

Two big changes in the 1800s helped create the modern postal system. First, a British teacher named Rowland Hill invented the stamp. Before that, the receiver paid for the letter — if they refused, it wasn't sent. With prepaid stamps, mail became easier and cheaper. Soon, many countries followed. Second, in 1874, the Universal Postal Union was formed to make international mail rules the same everywhere.

Today, email has taken the place of traditional mail, but sending packages(包裹) is more popular than ever because online shopping has become so common. Postal systems now use machines and even AI to put letters in order.

The mail keeps moving — always changing to meet people's needs and new ways of staying in touch.

A girl believed that she had many talents and could succeed in many fields. All she needed to do was choose one thing and focus on it. One day, she sat in front of a clean canvas(画布) and started to paint. She painted carefully, and soon finished a wonderful piece — a beautiful sunflower standing tall in a field. She looked at her work and smiled with pride.

But soon, she grew worried. "If I spend all my time painting," she thought, "what about medicine, gardening, or teaching? There are so many choices! If I pick one, won't the others be wasted?" She couldn't decide which path to take. So she looked at her painting one last time and walked out into the night.

So the woman, no longer a girl, went to a farm and began to paint. This time, she painted a field of sunflowers, all turning toward the sun. She looked at her work, smiling with comfort. And she finally made her choice.

In the South China Sea，there is a group of Jiaoren，or Chinese mermaids，whose tears become pearls（珍珠） after they fall. To the north of Kunlun Mountains，there is a monster called Xiangliu，which has nine heads with human faces but the of a snake. These magic creatures are from the ancient book of mythical （神话的）legends Shan Hai Jing. 

Shan Hai Jing，also known as The Classic of Mountains and Seas，is to be at least 2，200 years old. It is about the culture and geography of China before the Qin dynasty. It has 31，000 words，more or less. The whole collection eighteen parts，talking about more than 350 mountains. It also tells many stories and describes lots of mythical creatures. 

A famous story in the book is about Zhu Rong，the God of Fire. He is described as a beast-like body and a human face，riding around the sky on two dragons. When he had a big fight with Gong Gong，the God of Water，Zhu Rong won.  victory brought light and hope to humans soon after. But after the fight，the human world became dark. Then he brought fire from heaven to the world and taught humans how to useit. 

  it's not clear who wrote it，the Shan Hai Jing is an important ancient book in the pre-Qin period of China and is considered one of the treasures of Chinese culture. The in the book are now being spread from one generation to another in China. The book has inspired many people Lu Xun and J. K. Rowling. There are also many books，films，games，and artworks made from it. 

In early 2025，fishermen along the south-west coast of England started pulling up their crab pots（笼） and discovered something unfamiliar. Instead of common crabs and lobsters，the pots were filled with plenty of common octopuses（章鱼）. One pot even held over a dozen octopuses moving inside. A fisherman with nearly 40 years' experience said，"I've never seen octopus like this. "

Official government records show a shocking change. In May 2025，over 400 tons of octopus were caught——a monthly total never before seen in British history. In the past，monthly octopus catches hardly ever rose above 75 tons. In 2025 as a whole，about 233，000 octopuses were caught，around 13 times the normal number. 

Scientists began research at once. This sudden rise. called an octopus"bloom"，has only been recorded three times in 125 years. Dr Bryce Stewart stated that the event"shows clearly how sea life reacts to a warming ocean. " Higher water temperatures improve the survival and growth of young octopuses，and unusual currents（洋流） may have carried tiny baby octopuses across the Channel toward the UK coast. 

Matt Slater，an ocean protection officer，called it"an extraordinary population explosion unseen for 75 years. " Although some fishermen turned to catching octopus and earned much money，more than half said the event harmed their business seriously. One fisherman said，"We once caught a ton of crabs daily，but as octopuses feed on shellfish，we failed to reach that total all year. " Plymouth's government described the situation as"a great challenge for the local fishing industry. "

Scientists warn this may not be a single incident. Dr Stewart added，"As climate change warms our seas rapidly，strange biological events will probably become more often. "

Evan and his 15-year-old brother，Mark，liked spending time with their grandmother. One day，Grandma was busy painting her kitchen，so she asked the boys to look for games in the attic（阁楼）. 

The brothers climbed to the attic. Evan found an old diary in a dusty box rather than a game. He opened it and discovered a map!The drawing showed Grandma' s house，a raindrop inside a square，two little triangles（三角形），and a dock（码头）. A large"X" marked the"Greatest Fishing Spot（地点）" near the dock.

Next，the boys searched for the two small triangles. Soon，Evan pointed to two pine trees. "These trees must be the triangles on the map. he decided. "Now we just need to find the dock. "Mark said. They searched the riverside but found only wild plants. 

Evan suggested asking Grandma. They rushed into the kitchen as Grandma and Mom were washing paintbrushes. "That dock was torn down a long time ago，" Grandma explained. "How did you know about it？" The boys showed her the map. Mom smiled. "That's my map from when I was a girl. Grandma and I loved fishing from that dock. "

"Could you take us there？The dock is gone，but maybe it's still a great fishing spot，"Evan said hopefully. Grandma smiled，recalling the times she spent with Mom. "Sure，" she agreed. "Let's see if the fish still like it there. ""I' ll get our fishing poles（鱼竿），" Evan offered. The map had led to a treasure—and a chance to spend time with Grandma.

When I was a kid，my two brothers and I would stay with Grandparents for a week during summer vacation. Those1 were the highlight of our entire year—we always looked forward to spending every moment with them，especially Grandpa，the"hero" in our eyes.

Life keeps changing. While some changes are exciting，others may make us feel nervous.  Whether you like them or not，changes cannot be avoided. Having a good understanding of them may make it easier for us to deal with changes. 

What are life changes？

Many new things happen in life. Some are good choices you make. like joining a team or meeting friends.  They can be big things like moving schools，a friend going away or the death of your beloved one. Smaller changes might include having a new teacher or adapting（适应） to parents' new work schedules. All these can create strong emotions，but that's normal. 

Changes can be difficult because we can't predict results. Emily Hanlon，a psychologist（心理学家），says，"Our brains like familiar things because they feel safe. When something changes，like starting a new school or moving to a new home，it can feel like stepping into the unknown. " Changes can also be hard if you don't feel quite ready for them or you are not in control of whatever is happening. 

Can change be a good thing？

Trying new things helps discover what you like and dislike，such as tasting new ice cream flavors to find favorites.  Hanlon says，"Though changes can be scary，they often bring new experiences，friendships，and strengths. " So face the changes and believe in yourself.
