Amy and I just finished playing basketball in the park and on our way back, we met our neighbour Mrs Brown. She said she would go to hospital the next day and asked us if we'd like to help watch her piggies for several hours.Though we had never done that before, we decided to have a try.

When we arrived at MrsBrown's house the next morning, we were deeply attracted by the cute piggies. "They are the most lovely sweethearts I can imagine!" I said.

"Aren't they?" Mrs Brown agreed."Neil,I put up this small gate to keep my freshly planted garden safe while they two have a sleep outside. If you and Amy sit here and touch them softly, they' ll probably sleep the whole time I'm gone." Then she added,"Their food is in the fridge, but they shouldn't be hungry before I get back at noon." With these words, MrsBrown left.

At first, the piggies lay in their blankets.We touched them gently and they fell asleep fast. They looked like peaceful sleeping angels.Things seemed to go smoothly. Suddenly, a truck drove by, making a loud noise. Our sleeping angels jumped up, spun around in circles, and started racing all over the place!They knocked over the small gate and began digging in the garden like it was their playground. We tried to get them out of there,but it didn't work.

Amy suggested that food might get their attention. I rushed to the fridge for the food.Luckily, even though it wasn't lunchtime yet,they quickly ate up their food, lay down in their blankets and fell back to sleep.

The whole garden was in a mess. Amy and I quietly put the small gate back and did our best to make it look as good as before. Later,we told everything to Mrs Brown. Even though it meant some replanting work, she thought the whole thing was funny.

The Double Ninth Festival, also named

Chong Yang Festival, falls on the ninth day of the ninth month of the Chinese lunar calendar.That's how it gets its name.

This festival is celebrated for elderly people in China. People think"double ninth" sounds like the word"forever".  It is a day for the elderly to enjoy themselves and also a day for young people to show respect and love for the elders.

There are two main traditions for this festival. On this day, people would like to drink chrysanthemum wine(菊花酒). Ancient people believed that chrysanthemum could drive away bad luck and prevent one from getting illness in late autumn, so drinking chrysanthemum wine became a tradition at the Double Ninth Festival.Besides, the Chinese word for"wine" is jiu. Its pronunciation is the same as that of the Chinese word for"long". The word carries best wishes for the elderly.

The festival is celebrated in autumn. The bright clear weather and the joy of harvest make it a perfect time for outdoor activities. On this day, people often go mountain climbing. When climbing, they usually wear zhuyu, which is seen as a kind of plant that can cure diseases.People climb mountains with zhuyu to wish for elders a long life.

In fact, people show respect for elderly people not only on this special day but also in daily life. It has been a traditional virtue(美德)in China for centuries. What's more, to respect the elderly today is to respect our future selves.

Plogging(捡跑) is a new popular kind of exereise. It means picking up rubbish while you are jogging.

Some schools organize this activity as part of their labour(劳动) education. Many  (student) who take part in the activity enjoy it.Li Ping' an and Li Jia' an are two schoolboys from Guangdong. Last summer, they (join) in this activity. They said it helped them understand the real value of labour.

We often think humans are special because we can show many feelings.  The large hairy bees called bumblebees can do this too. Do you want to know more?

In the study, researchers found that good moods can be spread even among insects with small brains.The bee felt happy and changed its behaviour with the sugar water. It became more willing to land on different types of flowers. Other bees nearby also began acting more cheerfully, even though they didn't get any sugar water.

 To  answer  this  question,  the research team did many"isolation(隔离)" tests.With special tools, they isolated the possible signal channels(信号通道) of the bees one by one, ineluding those for smelling, touching and seeing. When a bee watches a"happy"bee fly actively, it will become happy too. If they are prevented seeing each other, the happy moods will be completely cut off—— even when the two bees are very close.

The finding shows bees can understand others' positive feelings. This is called positive affective cognition(积极情感认知). Before this study, we didn't know insects like bees could do this.

So, when we see a bee flying around in the garden, it might be spreading more than just pollen(花粉)—— it could be spreading joy!

In modern society, energy plays an important role in human activities. Generally, fossil fuels(化石燃料) are limited and unfriendly to our environment, while wind and water energy, though clean,  can be easily influenced by weather conditions. The present nuclear plants(核电站)probably harm  our  environment.  There is nothing like the sun to provide humans with unlimited clean energy. Under the guidance of China's 15th Five-Year Plan, Chinese scientists are working harder to build a kind of"artificial(人造的) sun".

What is it like? Of course, it's not the sun above our heads that provides energy for lives on Earth. In fact, it's a special machine designed to make the nuclear fusion(核聚变) happen,similar to that of the sun. Nuclear fusion happens when lighter atomic nuclei(原子核) join together to form heavier atomic nuclei. Through this process, a huge amount of energy is produced.Unlike the present nuclear energy production method, this new way is environmentally friendly,

However, producing practical energy from a nuclear fusion machine has many requirements,such as reaching temperatures above 100 million degrees for thousands of seconds. It is a must for the continuous energy production. That is very hard to achieve. Besides, making sure of its controllability is also a challenge.

A report presented by Chinese scientists said that China's controllable nuclear fusion energy development is entering a decisive period.The machines, such as the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak, or EAST in Hefei,have set world records by keeping temperatures above 100 million degrees for more than 1,000seconds.  It means inside the test machines,humans have created the needed environment for future fusion plants for the first time. So far, no other country in the world has made this achievement. China's fusion research has developed a lot in recent years. In November2025, China put forward a research plan to build the BEST machine, China's next-generation(下一代)"artificial sun". Once completed by the end of 2027, BEST will do tests and check its working abilities.

Even though there are many challenges,China has been making great progress in fusion energy with world records continuously broken.Controllable nuclear fusion, as one of the main projects during our country's 15th Five-Year Plan period, brings the hope of clean and rich energy a step closer to reality.
