5、Eating healthy and working out are good habits. Being careful with money is a good habit, too. It's not as difficult as you think. Remember these three words: save, spend, share.
Most young kids don't have real jobs. But you can still make money. Ask your neighbors (邻居). You can also talk to your parents. They could give you some money if you help with the housework in your home. And you can put your money in a bank. Banks keep your money safe.
You work really hard to make money and may want to spend it. Before you buy something, ask yourself if you need it or want it and if you have enough money for it. Set goals (目标) for yourself. Maybe you want to buy a toy. That's a short-term goal. Or maybe you want to buy a car one day. That's a long-term goal. Make a plan for how much you will spend. Keep to your plan. And remember your goals.
You can also use your money to help others. Think about what is important to you. Do you like animals? Donate (捐赠) your money to an animal shelter (收容所). Even a little help can make a big difference.

6、Do you know anything about the balance (平衡) of nature? Here is an example.
Not many years ago, some farmers were worried because hawks (鹰) took many of their chickens, so the farmers killed many hawks. They no longer had to worry about their chickens. But then they had new worries. Mice ate the farmers' food. How did this happen? Hawks ate not only chickens but also mice. They ate more mice than chickens. But the farmers did not know this. When they killed many hawks, they changed the balance of nature.
Changing the balance is bad for nature. Sometimes when people move into a new place, they often cut down many plants. Some of these plants are good for animals. If the animals cannot find food to eat, they will die or have to leave the place.
Here is another example. In a place of the United States, the giraffes there ate a kind of rose; the lion there ate the giraffes. The number of the giraffes, lions and wild roses did not change much if people kept things as they were. But people killed many lions to protect the giraffes. Soon there were so many giraffes that they ate up all the roses. Then the giraffes began to eat leaves of young trees. These trees were important to people. So people thought of ways to protect trees. Now the giraffes had nothing to eat, and many of them died. This was another lesson from nature.
Please always keep this in mind: it's important for us to keep the balance of nature.

In my school, there's an outdoor classroom. It is not the same as an indoors classroom.we have no chairs, tables or computers. We sit on some stones. In class we put books on our legs and write on them. It's a bit hard when it's windy. Paper can fly high in the air and we have to jump to get our paper back.
Every week, each class can use the outdoor classroom for one lesson. My class usually has it on Friday. We finish the first two lessons in our indoor classroom, and then we have a 20-minute break. After the break, it's time for us to move. Everyone is excited. We talk and laugh all the way to the outdoor classroom. We always have lots of fun there. There are lots of big trees around the outdoor classroom, so it's cool to have the class in the outdoor classroom even in hot summer. We have many birds' visits each time we are there. Some are quite nice, and we can hear lovely songs from them. Some are nasty, and we get bird poo (粪便) on our heads.
Nothing is perfect, right? Every coin has two sides.

Brenden Sener is a 13-year-old boy from Ontario, Canada. Hebuilt a really cool mini version of Archimedes' death ray.
A death ray may release great energy, generally causing destruction(破坏) or death. A famous ancient Greek (invent) named Archimedes is said to have come up with the idea to use the sun's power as a weapon(武器). He named the device(装置)the Archimedes' death ray.
The Archimedes' death ray had many large concave(凹面的) mirrors positioned to direct sunlight on a single place, heating it up setting it on fire. Think how a magnifying glass(放大镜) can set newspaper on fire by focusing sunlight on it. The death ray did something similar.
It is said that Archimedes' invention (use) to set Roman ships on fire during ancient battles. Sadly, there's no evidence that Archimedes' device ever existed and many have questioned whether it (actual) worked. Brenden Sener's middle school science fair project shows Archimedes' death ray could work.
Brenden Sener created a mini version of the Archimedes' death ray. He used a heating lamp, four small concave mirrors, and a piece of cardboard his experiment. As the mirrors focused the lamp's light to a marked spot on the cardboard, the target(目标) point's temperature (increase)with the addition of each mirror.
But Brenden's aim was not (set) anything on fire, just to prove that it could be possible to use big enough mirrors and sunlight instead of a heating lamp. But such a weapon is not likely to be built in reality.
Making a powerful Archimedes' death ray would be unlikely for several reasons. First, the device would have to be huge in size, making impractical to build. Secondly, it's difficult to accurately hit a (move) target by focusing sunlight on it.

What if you could change the plastic spoon you used at lunch into a cup for your water and then change it back to a spoon? That is what researchers at the University of Chicago's Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering had in mind.
The magical material is made up of polymers (聚合物). The researchers heated the plastic only to low temperatures(around 60℃) and then cooled it rapidly.
To test the plastic, they first made it into a spoon strong enough to scoop up peanut butter. After that, the fork was changed into an adhesive(黏合剂), which then became a small claw to pick up objects.
The team published their study in the journal Science on February 1, 2024. The current plastic does have some limitations(局限). Its shape-shifting ability stops working after seven times. But the engineers are unsure how long it remains suitable for reuse. However, they said that once ready, it would be extremely useful, both on the earth and in space.
Now plastic items have to be carefully sorted before recycling. If the pluripotent plastic is widely used in the future, all items could be processed together. This would make recycling a lot easier. More importantly, it could help reduce the amount of single-use plastics that end up in our landfills(垃圾填埋场) every day.
A. They created a material called "pluripotent(多能性的) plastic".
B. The plastic holds its shape for at least a month.
C. It allowed them to create different objects in no time.
D. The spoon was then changed into a fork to pick up cheese.
E. Also, it opens the door to different ways of plastic recycling.
F. If you have this one material, you can turn it into many different things.

A research team from China's Shanghai Jiao Tong University has developed a six-legged guide robot that is expected to deal with the country's shortage of real guide dogs.
"We believe our robot will work as 'a pair of eyes' for visually impaired people, "said Professor Gao Feng from the School of Mechanical Engineering on Thursday.
According to the China Association of Persons with Visual Disabilities, there are about 17. 31 million visually impaired people in China. However, due to high breeding (培育) costs and long training periods, there are reportedly only over 400 guide dogs in service nationwide, which means only one guide dog is available for every 40, 000 visually impaired people in China.
As a strong backup for the real guide dogs, the guide robot can accurately recognize the speech of blind people and reply in less than one second, walking at a maximum (最高的) speed of three meters per second while keeping a stable (稳定的) walking state with little noise.
The robot has visual environmental perception(感知), allowing it to autonomously navigate to its destination, avoid obstacles, and recognize traffic lights. Moreover, with the support of the Internet, it can also serve as a home companion for blind people.
"The primary task of our robot is to establish effective communication with blind people to enable the robot to understand the user's intentions (意图) while maintaining coordinated(协调的) movements, " said Gao. To achieve these goals, the robot uses a perception system of" seeing, hearing, asking and touching" to enable the users to control the robot.
In addition, it is equipped with many kinds of sensors such as laser radar to improve the accuracy of perception in different environments. This means it can walk smoothly on different types of terrain (地形) and guide the blind both indoors and outdoors with no need of Internet, making it easier to use, more stable, and more reliable for blind people.
The guide robot is now undergoing field testing. Gao said, "We have already received orders for 20 units, and believe that it will soon be ready for the market!"

I magine you are in a field at night, and suddenly, you see lots of little lights around you. You have just found a gathering of fireflies, and their twinkling lights are like a secret language. This nighttime lights show, especially in the forest, has fascinated people for a long time. Let's explore the mystery of fireflies.
Did you ever wonder how fireflies make their tails glow? The special power of fireflies to make light is called bioluminescence (生物发光), a special ability that some animals, like fireflies, have to create their own light through a chemical reaction. It happens when two chemicals in their bodies combine (结合) and generate a chemical reaction that produces light.
However, why do fireflies need to make light in the dark? Now, imagine you are a firefly looking for someone special in the dark. How would you find Mr. or Ms. Right? Fireflies use their glowing lights to send "hello" messages to each other. Each kind of firefly has its own special pattern of flashes, like a secret code. They use their lights as an invitation to get to know each other better, so that they can mate and produce the next generation of fireflies.
But fireflies do not just use their lights for conversations. They also use them to stay safe. Imagine you are an adult firefly in the shadows, and a big spider is trying to catch you. What do you do? You turn on your light! Your bright glow is like a sign that tells the spider" I taste disgusting. Do not eat me!"
This story of fireflies tells us how amazing and wonderful the natural world is. Exploring the world of fireflies helps us see how important it is to take care of nature and all its fascinating organisms(生物), no matter how small they are.

Anyone with a mobile phone has likely dropped it in water or been caught in a rainstorm. And many people seem to think that putting a wet phone in a bag of rice will rescue it.
However, Apple recently warned against doing just that. The technology company said it is a bad idea because small particles(颗粒) of rice can get into the phone and cause damage.
So what should you do instead? If the phone is dropped in water, dry it with a towel or clean cloth, and even a shirt will do. Turn the phone off if you can. Remove its SIM card. Remove the phone's cover. Remove the battery, if possible. And let everything dry at room temperature, perhaps with a fan running. Since you cannot take the phone apart, Apple suggests tapping the phone against your hand with the connecting ports(端口) facing down so water can flow out.
If your phone is dropped in seawater, treated water, or a drink, Samsung suggests keeping it in clean water for a few minutes. Doing that will remove any salt or substances that could hurt the phone. Both Apple and Samsung say it's best to leave the phone out in an open area to dry it out. More importantly, do not use a hair dryer or put the phone in a freezer.
Most newer phones are not waterproof(防水的) but they are water-resistant. Apple says its newest phones can survive 30 minutes in up to 6 meters of water. Samsung's phones can last for the same amount of time in about5 meters. But remember that the water resistance will decrease over time.
The phone manufacturers say it is hard to know when phones are completely dry. But it will likely take a few days. Samsung advises bringing the phone into a service center for inspection even after it's been air-dried.
(1)、To rescue a wet phone, Apple tells us to ____.A、take it apart at once B、make it dry in the sun C、put it in a bag of rice D、tap your hand on the phone(2)、If a phone is dropped in seawater, Samsung advises ____.A、drying it with a lot of salt B、letting it stay in a freezer C、blowing it with a hair dryer D、putting it into clean water for a while(3)、A phone is water-resistant, which means ____.A、it can survive in water forever B、it can get wet for a short time. C、it can't stay in water for a minute D、it can last a long time in deep water(4)、What is the passage mainly about?A、How to keep a wet phone away from danger. B、What to do if a wet phone has been put in rice. C、Why we should buy a phone that is waterproof. D、Who can help us when a phone is dropped in water. -

We all love to celebrate events like the spring and harvest season, and many more. A lot of them are related to tradition and history, and the uniqueness can be seen through different costumes that are worn festivals around the world. Youth and modern festivals are related not only to music but also to food and culture. But do you know that there are many rather unusual festivals around the world that still exist today? Below are four strange festivals around the world.
The Boryeong Mud Festival is an annual (每年的) event that takes place during the summer in Boryeong, a town around 200 km south of Seoul, ROK. You can enjoy mud pools, mud slides, mud prisons, and mud skiing competitions, with the most interesting activities being the mud wrestling(摔跤运动) and mud fireworks. Yes, it is all related to mud!
In Thailand there is an entire festival dedicated to feeding monkeys. Every year, on the last Sunday of November, people in Lopburi, Thailand, prepare a huge banquet(盛宴) for the monkeys who live in the area. Obviously the monkeys are very happy with this. Chinese linen(亚麻布), or xiabu— literally" cloth for summer"—— is a traditional handmade textilemade from China grass, also known as ramic(苎麻). The linen is comfortable, durable and easy to wash. It's yet not as fragile (易损的) as silk.
A variety of xiabu was developed in what is now Chongqing's Rongchang District during the Han Dynasty. Royals (王室成员)and the nobility during the Tang Dynasty liked wearing the linen during the summer months. It was one of the first products to be exported from the region in the 20th century. In 2008, the Rongchang xiabu craft was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产).
Chongqing's Rongchang District now exports about3m illion bolts of xiabu overseas every year, of which 40percent are sold to ROK.
37-year-old Ma Linqin is an inheritor (继承人) of Rongchang xiabu craftsmanship. Born in a family that has worked in the xiabu industry for three generations, Ma's interest in the fabric was sparked when she was a child, and she gradually learned the craft.
In 2010, Ma decided to return home shortly after graduating from college to work at her family business, one of the pillar(支柱) xiabu companies in the area.
To produce a piece of fine cloth, a xiabu craftsperson has to weave thread up and down over 2, 400 times on a 1. 5-inch-wide loom. This is the most important and complex part of the whole process. It takes over a period of about 20 days to make a piece of ramie cloth.
The young inheritor has been experimenting with xiabu to find a way to broaden (扩宽) its use. Her design of a notebook made of ramie cloth won the top prize in an innovation product design competition at the54th National Crafts Trade Fair in 2019. In recent years, several fashion week events and individual stage shows partly in need of xiabu have placed orders with her.
Now Rongchang xiabu has been made into more than1, 000 products, including dresses, decorative paintings, tablecloths, towels and bags. "Our products are especially favored by the middle class who pursue (追求) a higher quality of life, and the consumer group is becoming increasingly younger, " Ma said.
