Nowadays, lacquer fan painting is one of the most popular activities among young people. The process is quite simple. People first choose the colours they want to use, drop the coloured lacquer into the water, stir (搅拌) it, put the fans in the water for a while, and then take them out. And that's it.

Many people like lacquer fans. Every fan is unique (独一无二的), like each of us.

Paper cutting is a traditional Chinese art with a history of over 1,500 years. It uses simple tools like scissors and paper to create beautiful patterns. But in modern times, fewer young people are interested in it.

Zhang Min, a 16-year-old student from Nanjing, wants to change this. She learned paper cutting from her grandma when she was 8. She thinks paper cutting is a treasure of Chinese culture and should be passed down.

To promote paper cutting, Zhang Min started an online club. She posts videos of her paper cutting process on social media. In the videos, she explains the meaning of each pattern. For example, the fish pattern stands for good luck, and the peony pattern represents wealth. She also holds offline workshops in her school and community. Many students and neighbors come to learn from her.

"Paper cutting is not old-fashioned. It can be combined with modern life," Zhang Min said. She has designed paper cutting patterns for phone cases and bags. These creative works have attracted many young people. Now, more and more people are interested in this traditional art. Zhang Min hopes that one day, paper cutting will be known by people all over the world.

You may have heard of some volunteer activities such as planting trees, cleaning up the community, looking after the old, etc. But do you know what volunteer travel is? It is a new and popular volunteer activity among young people.

The main purpose of volunteer travel is to take part in service activities to help others. During the trip, volunteer travelers often provide services like teaching, cooking, animal caring and cultural activities. The volunteers may get free or cheaper accommodation (住处) and meals because of their help.

It seems that these long journeys could only be made possible in recent years by modern transport. However, volunteer travel started in 1958, when Alec Dickson and his wife Mora founded Voluntary Service Overseas (海外志愿者服务), an international volunteer organization.

Traditionally, the volunteer activities take place in a foreign country. But so far, more volunteer trips have taken place in the volunteers' own countries. Volunteer projects in the countryside are now attracting more visitors living in the cities. There are many benefits for people. First, the services provided by volunteers help reduce costs for countryside communities, offering them support. Second, volunteer travel allows people in the city to experience countryside life, providing a refreshing escape from the city. Third, for those who feel tired but cannot get far away from city life, these projects provided a meaningful way for them to feel relaxed and powerful.

This way, volunteer travel not only benefits local communities but also enriches the lives of participants.

A few months ago, I learned that the city food bank  (need) some volunteers. I wished my friends can join the  (organize). So I sent letters to 10 friends. I'd like to set up a group that would volunteer to make and (provide) dinner for the elderly people. I wanted to invite my friends to be part of the group. Almost all of my friends agreed.

One day, several of my friends brought some food and helped prepare the meal. "I  (get) such a strong feeling of satisfaction when I saw the disabled people get the food!" said one friend. Later, another friend made a list about serving, so we could do quickly and  (easy). Now each month many youth join the group. One woman even asked another group of  (she) friends to serve. I will never forget their (kind).

It's hard to imagine those simple letters asking friends  (help) have made a great difference. At first, I just wanted to be organizer. Now, I have changed my idea. I also love to work as a volunteer,  I can get more joy from the happy faces of the disabled people.

Last weekend, Alice took part in a volunteer activity along the riverbank. The  was to send the message of protecting the river and its wildlife. 

Alice and other volunteers met by the river early in the morning. Then they started walking in groups. All day long, they were busy with different things. They  picked up rubbish, such as plastic bottles and bags. Also, they planted trees along the riverbank.  they were walking, they learned a lot about how pollution was bad for the water. found out what they could do to keep the place clean for fish and other water animals. Alice felt really  to be in this meaningful activity. She realized that even small actions can make a big difference to the environment. 

During the event, the team leader told them some stories about the river. The river used to be clean, and there were lots of  animals in it. Alice listened to these stories carefully and started to think about the importance of  the environment. At  end of the day, the team leader everyone to keep the river clean and safe for animals. 

Alice felt hopeful after the event. She planned to share this great experience  her friends and family. She hoped they would also join in environmental activities and help make the world a better place.

To   illness, she sold her five shops but it didn't help much.
