Have you ever been to Dongting Lake?  It's famous as"800-li Dongting Lake". Dongting Lake is in the north of Hunan Province. It is about 2, 600 square kilometres in size. It is one of the five largest freshwater lakes in China. Every year, thousands of tourists from all over the world come to Yueyang in order to enjoy the beautiful sights around Dongting Lake.

With the development of our society, protecting Dongting Lake has become a hot topic. In fact,people of Yueyang are trying to improve the environment of the lake. On the one hand, they set up EastDongting Lake Nature Reserve in 1982. It provides a good place for birds and rare animals. If you go there,  you  can see birds  flying and milu  deer eating  grass  in  EastDongting Lake Nature Reserve. On the other hand, factories mustn't put waste water into the lake. Fishes are living in the clean water. At the same time, they plant colourful flowers and green trees along DongtingLake. It is nice for people to go there when flowers come out and leaves turn green.

Dongting Lake is the mother lake in Hunan Province. Each of us should try our best to protect it.

On January 28th, 2026, the McGee family's house caught fire. Luckily, Sebastian, their 8-year-old son, helped the family leave the burning house safely.

Sebastian's school had a party to praise his courage. The Washington County Tennessee Sheriff'sOffice also gave him a certificate(证书).

The fire started because of bad wiring(线路)."Sebastian is a very brave boy," said the officer Stine. Stine believed that Sebastian could have a job in public service. He said,"I' ll try to ask him to work for us later on because we need people who are brave like him."

"Kids learn about fire safety at school and they know how to solve this matter carefully," said Sebastian's mother, Amber McGee."We only have one smoke detector(探测器), so we really need more."

Amber heard Sebastian shout before hearing any smoke detectors. Sebastian still remembered the moment when he knew there was danger.

"Well, for a moment, I thought it was only a dream because I usually have scary dreams,"Sebastian said."Then something fell, so I knew it wasn't a dream. I shouted‘fire' and woke everyone up.We all left the house quickly."

Sebastian was so brave that he could save his family from danger. We should learn from him and remember how important it is to know about fire safety.

During this year's winter vacation, people in the south of China have traveled to the northeast,especially to experience the cool ice and snow trips in Northeast China.

Li Lei,  a  14-year-old student, recently visited  NortheastChina with her family from Guangxi.  They  spent seven  days enjoying the life there. They learned to make fish skin necklaces(项链) and experienced activities like skiing. They went to theHarbin Ice and Snow World, which Li Lei liked best. It comes alive with unbelievable ice sculptures(雕塑) and other attractionsThe sculptures are lighted at night, creating a magical winter wonderland.

One of the amazing activities was the local ice fishing on the frozen surface of Chagan Lake inJilin Province."This is my first visit to such a cold place. It is a wonderful and unforgettable experience for me," Li Lei said.

Li Mei, Li Lei's sister, who has studied in college, said,"Exploring the rich history and culture of the north has opened my eyes. I' ve been to Harbin in Heilongjiang Province before, but standing on the thick ice this time is still a new experience for me. The weather and food here are quite different from my hometown, offering me a wealth of different experiences."

Recently, visiting Northeast China to enjoy the fun of ice and snow has become very popular.Harbin has attracted lots of tourists from the southern parts of China. They have been warmly called"nanfang xiaotudou" or"little southern potatoes" because of their shorter height compared to people in the north.

Now, more and more young Chinese people are wearing hanfu. Ran Dan is one of them. She is a huge fan of hanfu from Beijing. She noticed hanfu in 2011 when she saw some hanfu photos and she was excited by its beauty. Soon she had her first set of hanfu. Now, she has more than 

50. She wears hanfu every day.

"Many people think hanfu is inconvenient in everyday life. In fact, there are many kinds of hanfu. Wide and long hanfu may not be convenient, but some kinds of hanfu will not affect our lives at all," she said.

The hanfu market has more than two million consumers across China. There are more and more stores selling hanfu online.

"Students are the largest group of consumers in my store," said Daodin, running an online hanfu store.

Now many schools have hanfu clubs and they are popular with students. Usually, there are different kinds of activities related to ancient clothing, poetry and calligraphy （书法）. The schools think hanfu is a good way for young people to learn about Chinese culture. And a lot of students say hanfu brings out the best in them, because when they are wearing hanfu, they want to act well.

Many animals need to move from one place to another. Often they do this as part of natural migration（迁徙）. Sometimes they need to move to a new area when  gets low or the situations get worse.

Humans take over large areas of the Earth. Roads and highways cut up many of the natural areas into many small parts, making it  for animals to move. One way of helping these animals is to build bridges and tunnels to help them  dangerous roads.

In 2018, Utah  a wildlife bridge over the busy highway I-80. Usually, it takes animals a long time to find and begin using wildlife bridges,  scientists thought the bridge wouldn't get much traffic for several years.  , a video shows many different kinds of animals are already using the bridge.

Hainan gibbons（长臂猿）are  danger because the number is getting much smaller. Scientists are trying their best to  them. In 2015a rope bridge appeared there to help Hainan gibbons cross the forest  .

These changes don't just help animals.  save human lives too. In the US alone, there are many road accidents every year caused by cars and trucks hitting wild animals. Now people in other countries are looking to try these ideas too.

Watching your favorite team lose hurts a lot. Winning brings you great joy, but losing is part of sports.  Learning to handle these losses is a key part of being a good fan.

Talk to other fans when you feel down. Sports are a shared fun experience, even if you watch alone at home.  You can also join a fan club or online group to share your disappointment.

 A loss may make you sad, but it is only one game or one season. Your team will have more chances to win in the future. This idea won't take away the disappointment, but it can help you move on quickly.

Stay loyal to your team.  Sticking with your team through hard times will make their wins feel even better. Think about what you love about them, like your favorite players or the happy moments with friends.

Recall the good times of your team. No team loses all the time. Think about their great comebacks, big championships or fun moments you watched with family. 

In the southeast of the Tengger Desert in Ningxia, there is a new library. The three-storey library opened on June 8th in 2022 in the Shapotou desert tourist area in Zhongwei City. The chocolate-coloured building looks like a box with half of it in the desert. It brings knowledge to book lovers, tourists and architects (建筑师).

The library is also called"Lost Treasure Box". According to Liu Huiling, a manager in the library, the name"Lost Treasure Box" was taken as the library lies at a place in which many important historical events took place."With rich 'memories', it has a lot to be discovered and told," Liu said.

With a collection of about 40,000 books, newspapers and magazines, the library is part of a desert culture and tourism project, which is supported by the local government. Lying between the Tengger Desert and the Yellow River, Zhongwei City has been making great work in recent years to develop its culture."This is the first modern library ever built in the desert in China. Since it started serving the public 24 hours a day, it has won lots of good reviews," said Liu.

The library also shows the harmony between the desert and human activities after years of anti-desertification (抗沙漠化）work.

Yang Fang, a visitor from Fujian Province, brought her 8-year-old daughter to the library."With stars overhead at night, my daughter can enjoy sounds of the wind in the desert while reading," she said.

Three years ago, I moved to a new house. It had a big 1 , but it looked terrible because grass grew all over it. I 2 to cut the grass and grow some vegetables in it. I started to act and 3 cut half of the grass, and then I saw something different—a small flower. It was yellow and looked like a star. It looked so 4 that I just cut the grass around it. In the following days, when I trimmed（修整）the garden, I always cut around the flower. At that time, I didn't know at all that there would be a 5 for me.
