Do you find that you learn things faster than your parents sometimes? Congratulations! You could be right. Scientists have found the reason  children learn faster than adults. 

Scientists at Brown University, the US, found that school-aged children learn new knowledge and (skill) faster than grown-ups. This has something to do with a chemical (化学物质) called GABA in our brains. It reduces brain noise so that we can learn things more (easy). It also (make) new knowledge stay longer in our heads. 

The scientists scanned (扫描) the brains of children (8-11 years old) and adults (18-35 years old) before, during, and after doing  learning task. It turned out that  children learn new things, the amount of GABA rises quickly. But there's little change in adults' brains. This tells us why children are (good) learners than adults. 

The finding, the scientists said, should encourage teachers and parents (let) children learn anything  riding a bike to playing an instrument in their childhood. It could also be used to help adults learn faster by increasing the amount of GABA in (they) brains. The best way of increasing GABA is to get enough sleep and exercise. 

Working on a team is quite important. However, if people on your team are not good at communicating, you may often feel terrible. To create a successful team, good (交流) is the most necessary part for both the leaders and team (成员). The following is some helpful advice. 

◆Listen to other people actively. 

When someone is speaking to you, you're supposed to listen to him/her actively. If you're not sure about something, you should (主动提出) to ask him/her about it. In this way, you can make things (清楚的) before moving on. 

◆Think about other people's ideas carefully

When someone tells you about his/her ideas, you should think about them carefully. This shows you are (感兴趣的) and could make him/her get a feeling of (满足). 

◆Share your ideas with other people. 

When you have a new idea, talk with others (代替) of thinking by yourself. This helps to get better ideas. Besides, it also helps to improve your relationships and then you can work out all the (困难) as a team. 

◆Don't criticize(批评) other people

When someone does something (错误的), don't criticize him. You can help him to find out reasons and then help him to deal with the problem. Criticizing your teammates too often may make them keep away from you. And as a result, you may feel (孤独的) in work. 

Last Sunday while I  on the street, a foreigner stopped me to ask for directions. Although I listened to English radio quite often, I still had  understanding what the man had said. How fast he spoke! I was so excited and  that I breathed deeply before I could answer. I was afraid of  my mouth for fear that my words would not be correct, so I drew a map for him. After saying"thanks" to me, he left with the map. Everything happened within ten minutes, but I felt this short conversation  the start of a bright new world. 

It's Friday evening. My daughters sighed (叹息) when I took the iPad away from them. One by one, our screens were turned off. We lit the candles and sat down to have a big meal. 

We call it our "Technology Shabbat"(科技安息日), which lasts from sunset(日落) on Friday to sunset on Saturday. Now most friends know they will not be able to find us by using computers or mobile phones for 24 hours. 

I first understood the importance of "Technology Shabbat" in 2008, when my father had got brain cancer. Some days he would have only one good hour, and the only thing I wanted to do was to be with him. When I looked after my father, I turned off my mobile phone. Soon after that, my husband and I decided to turn off all the electronic(电子的) things for one full day every week. 

During our "Technology Shabbat", time slows down. Our Saturdays now feel like mini-vacations. We drive cars or ride bikes. We work in the garden, play board games and cook meals with our kids. I feel like a better mother, wife and person. 

Keeping a balance(平衡) between the good and the bad of technology is important for my family. The technology helps us share knowledge and funny ideas all over the world. But the technology also takes something away from us. Sometimes we stay up late at night looking through from website to website or sending messages until we have been really tired. 

Now we're rushing into the time full of high technology. We should think about what we are doing online and when we should go offline. I will always remember the most important thing in my family: Technology Shabbat. 

There was once a king who offered a prize to the artist who would paint the best picture of peace. Many artists tried. The king looked at all the pictures, but there were only two he really liked. 

One picture is of a calm lake. The lake is a nice mirror for high mountains all around it. Overhead is a blue sky with white clouds. All the people who saw this picture thought it was a perfect picture of peace. 

The second picture has mountains too, but these mountains are rugged(崎岖的). Above the mountains is a dark sky, from which the rain falls heavily. Down the side of the mountain tumbles a waterfall. This does not look peaceful at all. But when the king looked closely, he saw behind the waterfall a tiny bush(灌木丛) growing in a crack(裂缝) in the rock. In the bush a mother bird has built her nest. There, in the middle of the rush of angry water sit the mother bird and her children—in perfect peace. 

In the end, the king chose the second picture. Many people didn't know why. "Because," the king answered, "peace is not being in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. Peace is even though you are in the middle of all those things, you still keep calm in your heart. That is the real meaning of peace. "

At the age of 19, I graduated from high school and moved to a place where it snowed often. I felt free and completely in control of my life until l knew I had bacterial meningitis(细菌性脑膜炎). 

When my parents wheeled me out of the hospital, I felt like I had been pieced back together like a doll with my "new legs". They hurt so badly that all l could think was what l could do with these things. Tears streamed down my face. I was completely emotionally(情绪上) broken. 

But I knew I had to let go of the old Amy and learn to welcome the new Amy. Four months later I was back up on a snowboard, although things didn't go quite as expected: My legs went flying down the mountain, and l was on top of the mountain still. l was so discouraged. But I knew that if I could find the right pair of legs, I would be able to do this again. And this is when I learned that problems we met would bring two kinds of results: stop us on the road or    ▲   . 

I did a year of research, but still couldn't find out what kind of legs to use, so I decided to make a pair myself. It was these legs and the best 2lst birthday gift l could ever get—a new kidney(肾) from my dad—that allowed me to follow my dreams again. 

In 2005, I founded an organization for youth and young adults with physical disabilities so they could join in sports. From there, I had the chance to go to South Africa, where I helped to put shoes on thousands of children's feet so they could go to school. With my effort, I got three World Cup gold medals which made me the highest ranked female snowboarder in the world.

People wear masks "to show that they want to stick together" in the face of danger, Lynteris wrote.

Mark and his brother Jamie rang their neighbour Mrs. gray's doorbell.
