The Japanese school year begins in April because most people think spring is the perfect time to start new things. After the July break (休息) we go back to school in early September for the second term. 

Like most kids in my country, I got a new randoseru (双背带书包) from my parents as a gift on my first day of primary school. It was a box-like schoolbag and I always feel good when I start my new term with it. Of course, I still took this schoolbag with me on the first day of this term.
