On a school day, 60 students at XishanPrimary School were learning how to make corn soup in an after-school cooking class. Working in groups of four or five, the little cooks took their responsibilities very seriously. Soon, they were showing off their own delicious dishes. 

Recently, many schools have set up after-school classes for students. It comes after the" double reduction" policy. The policy is to alleviate the stress from homework for students.  The policy lists requirements such as cutting down the amount and reducing the degree of difficulty of homework, as well as improving education and after-school services. For example, homework for junior high school students should take no longer than 90 minutes to finish. It allows students to have more free time to take up their hobbies and interests. 

"Our homework is clearly less than before, " said Shen from Beijing. "We are not encouraged to buy exercise books anymore. The exercises are mainly from the textbook. " According to Shen, teachers have taught at a slow speed, which gives students enough time to think about new information. 

The Ministry of Education reported on the progress made through the policy so far. Almost all primary and middle schools now offer two-hour after-school services on weekdays. More than 90% of students can finish their written homework in the set time. About 92. 7% of schools have offered after-school art and sports classes.

 Hospital Schools teachers need to teach their students and help to reduce their difficulties in returning to their own school after the treatment. Every morning, the first thing Ko does is to check on each student and see if they are well enough to have classes. Her students come from different backgrounds and even speak different languages. She needs to teach both primary and secondary school-aged students, so Ko is always ready to take care of students from different levels. According to the students' levels, she will teach in small groups or one-on-one bedside teaching and each class lasts about 30 minutes. 

Over the years, Ko has received a lot of cards from parents and students, such as" Miss Ko, thank you for your patience" and" Wishing you a good start in the new year". That really makes her happy and moved. 

 Giving classes to students suffering from illness could be difficult, but Ko regards these experiences as training, which can lead her to a deeper understanding of life. 

March 25 this year provides you with a good chance to learn about safety.  This day is called the National Day of Education on the Safety of Elementary and Middle School Students(全国中小学生安全教育日), NDESEMSS for short. The theme of the day in 2023 was to give students more knowledge about safety and make sure their lives safe. 

 Unlike car accidents which hurt more grown-ups, the main accidents for elementary and middle school students come from stampedes, earthquakes, fires and sports injuries. What can we do to keep ourselves safe? Different accidents have different self-protection advice. 

A stampede is possible anywhere.  The larger a human crowd gets, the more likely stampedes become. When students around you begin to push, stand still and try to hold onto something, or stay in a corner until the crowd leaves. If you fall down in a moving crowd, cover your head with both hands. Lean    to    one    side,    curl    up    your    body    and    bend    your    legs. 

Earthquakes are common natural disasters. When you feel the ground shake, drop down, take cover under a desk and hold on. You should stay indoors until the shaking stops. If you are outdoors, don't run into buildings, and don't stay near buildings, trees or power lines. 

④When there's a fire, follow the teachers' instructions, leave the classroom quickly and use a piece of wet cloth to cover your mouth and nose so that you don't breathe in smoke.
