Silk is one of the most famous materials in the world. It has been used for thousands of years. The history of silk began in ancient China. According to legend, the Chinese Empress Leizu discovered silk when a cocoon fell into her tea. She noticed that the cocoon was made of a long, soft thread. This thread could be used to make beautiful fabric.  

The Chinese kept the secret of silk production for many years. They did not want other countries to know how to make silk. However, eventually, the secret spread to other parts of the world. Today, silk is produced in many countries, but China is still the largest producer of silk in the world.  

Silk is known for its softness and strength. It is used to make clothing, scarves, and even furniture. Silk is also very expensive because it takes a lot of work to produce. Thousands of silkworms are needed to make just one kilogram of silk.

How to develop good study habits

Every student wants to study well, but it's not easy. 

A: Hi, Li Hao. 

B: Hi, Mary. You look worried. ?

A: You know I'm not good at learning English. I don't know what to do. 

B: . There is going to be a talk on learning English at our school hall tomorrow afternoon. ?

A: Yes, I'd love to. ?

B: A teacher from America will give the talk.

In learning English, one should first pay attention to listening and speaking. It is the groundwork of reading and writing. You'd bet- ter try your  to do much listening and speaking. Don't be afraid of mistakes. You should not let stop you from improving your English. Through correcting the mistakes, you can do better in learning English. A good  to cor- rect mistakes is to write—keep a diary, write notes or letters and ask to go through what you have written. They'll tell where it is wrong. Many mistakes in your speaking will be found when you write. 

If you are slow in speaking, don't worry. 

One of the ways is reading, ei- ther aloud or just to yourself. Remember it's important to choose interesting to read. It mustn't be too difficult for you. When you are reading, don't stop to up the new words if you can guess their meanings or they have nothing to do with the sentence.

?Many of them use chemicals to kill weeds ( 杂 草 ) . The   trouble   is, these weedkillers also kill wildlife, pollute rivers and are bad for the fields. . This kind of ro- bot can cut weedkiller use by 90%. The robot is really smart because it only kills weeds but not crops(庄稼) . 

Several cameras are built into the robot. 

The cameras facing the ground take photos to help the robot" see" the plants it passes. 

The robot compares each photo to a library of plant photos to decide on which plants are weeds. 

Robot arms move into position to give a small dose( 剂 量 )of weedkiller on the weeds. 

The robot is energy friendly.  .

How the robot will develop

The scientists do not want to just stop at the achievement they have made. . The improved model of robots will exactly discover weeds and dig them out instead of weedkillers. 

Robots could be programmed to leave some harmless weeds in the fields to support wildlife living there. 

"Listen!"Mr. Smith said seriously at the beginning of his first class. "I will put one lieinto each of my classes. Your job is to try and catch me in the lie of the day. "

Smith listened carefully to what we questioned for almost ten minutes. Then he finally said, "Do you still remember the first lesson? "Con- fused ( 困 惑 的 ) , we said yes. "Well, that was a real big lie. In fact, all the lectures I've given before are completely true. But I am glad you worked so hard. Move on. . . "

Hearing this, all eyes in the classroom went wide. 

While most of my knowledge of geography has been forgotten over time, his lessons have stayed with me. Mr. Smith helped us build a habit of evaluating new information and chec- king it against things we have already accepted as a fact. 

Films provide more than just fun.  For many people, watching foreign language films is a way to develop their language skills. But some people may have1 watching a film. If you are one of them, I'd like to give you some2 to help you get the most fun from watching a film in English.

When I first started studying English seriously, I noticed that my grammar was a main weak point. My writing was often full of mistakes.  fix this, I created a study plan to improve my grammar. 

I started  reviewing the basic grammar rules. I realized that I had been making mistakes because I never really understood the rules. For example, I would often mix up verb tenses. To solve this, I spent a few weeks just going over the basics. It  a little boring at first, but it made a great difference. 

One of the turning points for me was when I began keeping  grammar diary. Whenever I made a mistake, I would write it down along with the correct usage. I remember once I kept confusing the past perfect tense with the simple past tense. Writing out the differences and practising writing sentences in my diary helped me internalize (内化) the rules. 

 fact, to get better at any subject, you need to find what you're not good at and try to improve it. Remember, every mistake is just a chance to learn something new.

Listening to English more often will help you improve your . When doing this, you'd better make mistakes marked and correct them more than twice.

You should pay attention  your speaking speed. Before you speak, think carefully about what to say and speak a little more slowly than normal. 

You should make sure the language that you use is correct. Use words and  you have used before. If you don't understand the question or the activity, ask the examiner (考官) , "Could you  that, please?" 

You should speak  so that the examiner can hear you.  you find it difficult, practice with a partner at home. Stand at opposite ends of a room and speak to each other in English. 

Everyone feels nervous in exams. So take some deep breaths before exams and try to relax.
