One Thing I'm Proud of

For 46 years, the Pritzker Prize (普利兹克奖) has often gone to architects (建筑师) known for their special design buildings. But this year, it went to a man who doesn't stick to one certain building. Liu Jiakun became the second winner from China to win the highest honor in architecture on March .

Living in Chengdu, Liu has worked for forty  on over 30 projects. He built  museums and large public spaces. He likes to mix the culture into his projects and uses "low-tech" ideas to make beautiful buildings, The Spaces .

Liu is well-known for the "rebirth bricks (再生砖)" he made by himself after the Wenchuan earthquake in 2008.  with rebuilding, Liu made bricks by using the rubble (瓦砾) left from fallen buildings. These bricks were later used in many of his projects,  the Shuijingfang Museum in Chengdu and the Novartis Building in Shanghai. 

Liu's works are also built with people's needs in mind.  largest project, West Village, is in Chengdu. It includes a soccer field, a market and places for people to walk or ride bikes. "I think of it  as a big Sichuan hotpot, mixing every part of city life," Liu told The Guardian. So far, it  a popular place for people to relax and have fun. "They  to give people a nice, fair, and respectful place to live," Liu said. 

Liu Jiakun's story shows us that with creativity and a heart for people, architecture can truly make the world a better place.

"Are you okay?" my brother Matthew asked as our car turned upside down. Driving through the desert had become our special tradition. My head felt heavy as we were stuck in the car, surrounded by sand hills. 

When I was a little child, I always wanted to be as close to my brother as he was with his friends. When Matthew first heard he'd have a brother, he was excited. But when I was born and he got to know that I was a girl, he felt disappointed. He even hid in his room for days, refusing to see me. As I learned to walk, I followed him everywhere. To him, I was just a "noisy little sister". 

Years later, Matthew invited me to visit him at college after I said I missed him. In his room, he handed me a drink. We talked in our usual way—few words but deep understanding. He always saw my trails and became my support. 

Once, when our family left me out of holiday plans because I had to attend my music classes, Matthew refused to go without me. We celebrated together, just the two of us. On the cold November evening, we sat on the floor, sharing a simple meal of sandwiches and laughter. 

My brother had become my hero. But after our car accident, I saw his true self-weak and scared. "Are you hurt?" I asked anxiously (焦急地). 

When we finally got out safely, I realized I needed to protect him too. We smiled, understanding our bond (关系) had changed. This time, it was my turn to be his helper. I held his hand as we walked back to the road. Luckily, we understood each other better.

A father saw his son crying. He asked him, "What's wrong?" The young boy replied, "My 1 classmates made fun of me and called me the son of a poor gardener. They said that my father is just a worker who only lives on the money from watering and growing plants for people."

Learning about that, the father was 2 for a moment, and said, "Come with me." He took out a few seeds (种子) and said, "Let's plant some 3 separately. I use clean water from the lake, and you water yours with dirty water from the pond. We will see the 4 later." The son happily joined his father in planting them.

Have you ever watched a movie that made you cry, laugh, and feel excited all at the same time? "The Queen of Dumplings" is such 1 excellent movie. It is based on the true story of Zang Jianhe, the founder of the famous frozen dumpling brand "Wanchai Ferry".

The story took place in Hong Kong in the 1970s. Zang Jianhe, played by Ma Li, came to Hong Kong with 2 two daughters. Life didn't go well as she hoped. She 3 do all kinds of hard jobs, 4 washing dishes to cleaning cars. "5 challenging life is!" she often said. However, she didn't give up. Instead, she made a brave decision to start selling dumplings at Wanchai Ferry, one of 6 areas in Hong Kong at that time. At first, it was not easy. She faced many problems. For example, she was often chased away by the police while she 7 dumplings on the street. But with her strong will and the help of kind neighbors, her dumpling business gradually started to grow.

What I like most about this movie is the main character Zang Jianhe. She is so brave and hard-working. No matter how many 8 she meets, she always keeps going. Once she got hurt at work, but she still tried her best 9 care of her daughters and run her business. Her story shows us 10 anyone can succeed if they work hard and hold on to their dreams. This movie is not only about one person's success, but also shows the spirit of keeping trying, which is really inspiring.
