DIY means "do-­it­-yourself". It is quite popular in the UK. Lots of stores and supermarkets sell DIY things. TV programmes show people how (do) DIY.

English people like DIY. There is a saying in the UK—An Englishman's home is his castle. Many people spend their holidays  (make) their homes beautiful "castles". If anything needs fixing around their homes, such as painting the walls or putting in a new shower (淋浴器), they will do the jobs themselves. More  (important), they can share DIY experience with their friends. More and more people enjoy the joy DIY. Sometimes people also do DIY for saving money. They like making their houses better without  (spend) a lot of money. It is not  (surprise) that DIY is so popular.

DIY can be difficult. There is a big market (市场) for DIY furniture(家具). People need to get things together themselves with few tools. However, people often find it not easy to build a piece of furniture because they can't understand the  (instruction). DIY can also be  (danger). Sometimes you may hurt yourself.

DIY can bring us fun  help us save money, but it is not always as easy as it is thought to be.

Do you know what an American school is like? There are some buildings in it: the classroom building, the science building, the sports building, the dining hall and the library. Every school has a big playground, too. There are a lot of trees and flowers in some schools, so they look like parks. 

There are 20 or 30 students in a class. In the classroom, students sit in groups. There are 5 or 6 students in a group. In the classroom, every student has a locker (锁柜). They can put their books and clothes in it.

Every day, students have six or seven classes. They study science, maths, English and other subjects. They go to different classrooms for every subject. That's because every teacher has his/her classroom. The school day finishes early in the afternoon. 

After school, most students go to different after-school activities, such as sports games and different kinds of club activities.

Social media also has a bad influence if we don't use it properly. For example, it can make us feel not confident sometimes, because people around us may put colourful and wonderful pictures online to show off (炫耀) their good moments. Online sharing is not always safe, either. Your friends or family can see your news, but also some strangers (陌生人). 

Nobel Prize winner Malala Yousafzai says, "The power and influence of social media is interesting. We must try to use social media in a good way." After all, you decide how to use this tool.

About 38,500 kinds of animals in the world are in danger. Now, you can learn about them and help them by playing a card game.

Jackson Mann is 15 years old. He is the starter of the card game called "SOS: Save Our Species (物种)". He hopes that people can do something for endangered (濒危的) species after playing the game.

In the game, players need to collect endangered species and match them with their right habitats (栖息地). The players can get more points (分数) if the species are more endangered. The game finishes when there are no more cards. And the player with the most points wins the game.

Jackson had the idea for the game on a family trip to Central America three years ago. "We saw lots of wildlife and played lots of card games," said Jackson. "I thought that it would be great if people could play cards and learn about endangered species at the same time."

Jackson's card games began to sell from July 8, 2022. So far, he has made over £11,700 to help save animals in danger.

Children need free time to find their own interests, be with friends or just relax. Parents 1 to know more about their kids. So if parents and their kids can find free time activities to enjoy 2 , it'll be useful to them.
