When I was ten, the language used at all schools changed from French to English. I had no time to adjust（适 应） to the change. I now could not understand any question on an exam paper because they were in English. Counting from 1 to 10 in English was harder than lifting a 50-kilogram bag. I would try to memorize some English words, but failed.

If you have ever played in or watched a soccer game, you have seen the referee（裁判）point to players and hold up yellow or red cards. The referee uses these colored cards to show an offense（犯规）by the player. The referee does not have to use language. The color of the card explains the punishment.

This system（制度）is based on the traffic light. The yellow color on a traffic light means caution and the red color means stop. In soccer, a yellow card refers to a warning to a player. A red card means that a player is out.

The player must leave the field immediately and may not return to play in the game. But for what reasons are red and yellow cards used in soccer?

This system of using colored cards was created in 1966. During the quarter-final s of the 1966 World Cup, England was playing Argentina. Two players on England's team had been pointed serious offense by the referee. One of Argentina's players was sent off the field. However, the referee did not make these calls clear during the game. Some people at the game didn't even realize what happened until they read reports about the calls in the newspaper later. There was no system in place to announce the calls during the match. Often in a match, the officials and the players were the only ones that knew about a call.

I' ve always been interested in learning. To help raise money for my own education, I started recycling bottles. After I started, I noticed that many kids and families growing up here in Hawaii were facing the same problem. So I decided to help them and set up my organization, Bottles4College.

◆ How has Bottles4College grown?

It has grown faster than I expected.  Through recycling events, Bottles4College has recycled over

◆ How did you raise money after the Maui wildfires?

I set up a similar organization, Bottles4Maui, to help people who suffered from the Maui wildfires in 2023.  The money went directly to those people.

◆ Do you have any advice for kids who want to help others?

 Giving back to your community is a great chance, so please do all you can to help others. Always look to your community and environment to find your support. Also look for areas where you can make a difference to improve the community.
