"Music changed everything, " said 13-year-old Kevin Blake. I spoke with Kevin at his home in Manchester, "I used to have a bad stutter. When I started to talk, I had to stop. I tried hard, but the words didn't come out freely. Other kids made fun of me. I kept quiet. "

Kevin's music teacher, Penny Fisher, advised using music to help him. She said singing could help kids who stutter. "It not only helps you know the rhythm (节奏) of music, but also teaches you to breathe calmly. " Kevin's parents wanted to try it. 

"When Penny first asked me to sing, I felt shy, " said Kevin. "But she encouraged me. I found that the words came out freely. I could also sing well. "

Lixia, or the Start of Summer, is the 7th of the 24 solar terms in China. It  on May 5this year. It means the  from spring to summer. As the weather gets , plants and crops grow faster.  across China are happy to welcome Lixia. It is the best  to plant early rice in the south. There are also many old sayings that tell people not to be  during this time.

Lixia is  in different ways. In some places, they cook" Five-Colored Rice"with five kinds of beans. This stands for people's wishes for  colourful life. People also eat fresh fruit vegetables. In some areas, children  a bag with an egg around their necks. It is believed to keep them safe and healthy. Other customs include singing folk songs and weighing themselves. People weigh themselves again after summer to see how much weight they lose in the hot season.

The parent-child relationship is very important in a family. Sometimes there are problems between parents and children. For some children, talking to their parents can be difficult. Here are some ideas about how to talk to them.

Be active (积极的). Share your everyday life with your parents. This is a key step to build a close parent-child relationship. For example, you can talk about how your team did in the game, share something your teacher said, or talk about how well you did in maths.

Be honest (诚实的). It is important to tell your parents about your true feelings and actions. Sometimes you have bad news, like making a mistake. You may worry that telling them will make them unhappy. But you can speak it out honestly. Parents are always there to help you.

Also, choose a good time to talk. Talk to your parent when he or she is not busy. You can ask,"Can we talk? Is it a good time now?" If he or she says"Yes", then you can have a talk.

What's more, you should listen to your parents carefully when they are speaking and try to understand them. When you do all these, talking to your parents will become much easier.

When Li Shizhen was a child, he often followed his father, a local doctor, into the mountains. His father knew every plant and could tell which ones could cure diseases. Little Li was curious and wanted to learn the skill.

One morning, his father pointed to a green herb（草药）with small yellow flowers."Go and pick some,"he said. Li ran up the hill happily. But soon he faced a problem—there were two similar herbs. Which one was right? He hesitated, then ran back to ask his father.

"Look carefully,"his father said patiently."The useful one has tiny teeth on its leaves, while the other is smooth." Li observed（观察）again and finally found the correct one. From then on, he never picked blindly. He always studied every detail（细节）and compared differences.

Years later, Li became a great herbalist and wrote the famous Compendium of Materia Medica（本草纲目）.

In January 2024, students were stopped from using smartphones in class by Dutch schools. A new study showed how this rule affected（影响）students.

The ban（禁令）worked differently. In primary schools, it had little effect because few students brought phones. But in high schools, it helped a lot. Most students became more focused（专注）and some got better grades. During breaks, they talked and played more instead of using phones. The ban also made schools safer, as students could not secretly take or share others' photos.

However, a UK study of over 1,200 students found that simply banning phones did not greatly change study or behavior（行为）. Still, it showed that too much phone and social media use could cause poor sleep, bad grades, and more behavior problems.

Experts say school phone bans are not enough. Schools should help students cut down their total screen time to improve study and life.

Last year, I volunteered at a recycling（回收）centre with my friends. I saw many plastic1 on the ground and wondered, "What will we do with them?"

A group of workers welcomed2 . One explained that bottles and caps are made of different kinds of plastic,3 we needed to sort（分拣）them for different uses. With my mask and gloves4 , I started to take the caps off the bottles.

Some bottles had straws（吸管）and rubbish inside, so I5 take them out. Some of my friends didn't like this6 , and I didn't like it either. But it was7 and good for the environment. After a while, we crushed（压碎）all8 plastic bottles and put them into a large box.

The Art of Having Fun

Having fun is not just about playing, but about relaxing well and doing meaningful things.

After 22 years, Chinese soccer came back to the Asian Cup Final. This time, it was the young U23 team, not the national team. Their big  made many people proud in China and other countries.

On Jan. 24, China played  Japan in the U23 Asian Cup Final. China finished in place after a 0-4 loss. The result was not perfect, but it gave  for the future. The team's Spanish head coach, Antonio Puche, said he was  of the players. They practised day and night,  they were ready for the big game. Before the final, the team had not let in any goals in five matches. The young players surprised fans with  wonderful shows and they all played on the field. Goalkeeper Li Hao made 33 saves across six matches. Peng Xiao scored two goals and  the team's top goal maker.

"With a good plan and a brave fighting spirit, the U23 players have made improvements," said Guangming Net.

Ladybug (瓢虫) Mom

A mother ladybug lays sticky eggs that look like small jellybeans(软糖豆). She hides them under leaves to keep them safe from other animals. She also makes sure very small insects are nearby. In this way, when the baby ladybugs come out of the eggs, they can have enough food to eat at once.

Elephant Mom

A mother elephant uses her long nose to lead her baby to walk ahead slowly. If the little one falls down, she will help it stand up. When taking a bath, she sprays(喷洒) water over her baby with her long nose. Best of all, she often gives her baby elephant loving pats(轻拍) with her long nose.

Emperor Penguin (企鹅) Mom

A mother emperor penguin leaves her egg with the father penguin. Then she travels up to 50 miles to the sea to look for food and eats lots of fish. When she comes back, she feeds the newly-born chick(雏鸟). She takes food from her stomach to the chick's mouth.
