Playground Safety Rules

Playgrounds are great places to have fun. But you need to have fun without getting hurt. 

Getting ready to play

Wear shoes to keep your feet safe.  Wet equipment（设备）can be slippery（滑的）and might lead to a fall.

Don't play on broken equipment. Tell an adult if any playground equipment is broken.

Slides（滑梯）

Go down the slide, one person at a time.

Don't go down the slide until the person in front of you has reached the ground and moved away from the slide.

Never climb up the front of the slide. 

Climbing

Climb stairs or steps slowly. Hold onto the handrails（栏杆）。

Swinging

Sit down on the swing and slow down before getting off.

Be careful when you walk in front of a moving swing. You don't want to get hit.

If something goes wrong

Remembering the above rules will help keep you safe and prevent accidents. But sometimes things can still go wrong. If there's a problem or if someone gets hurt in the playground, ask an adult for help at once.

Do you play with your phone before bedtime? You may need to read a book instead. According to a study, looking at screens at night can cause us to sleep poorly.

In the evening, our brains secrete（分泌）melatonin（褪黑激素）. Melatonin helps us feel sleepy and relaxed. It's an important part of our sleep cycle. Our electronic screens stop that cycle from working normally.

Why? Because phones, computers and TVs produce blue light. Blue light stops our brains from secreting melatonin. Even just a little bit of blue light can have an effect. Eight minutes of blue light can keep our brains"awake" for another hour. Even if we fall asleep, we may have lots of dreams. Our brains won't have a good rest.

It will be even worse if we play an exciting game before bedtime. Games make our hearts beat faster, so we have a harder time falling asleep. Then, when we fall asleep, we don't get enough "deep sleep".

Use these tips to get a good night's sleep.

★Have a relaxing routine every night. Take a warm shower or read a book.

★Sleep in a dark, quiet room that is not too warm or too cold.

★Count sheep. It's the oldest trick, but it can actually work.

★Don't eat a big meal or have coffee. Instead, drink milk.

★Don't exercise for three hours before bedtime.

What do you think of exercise? Like food, it's very important to people. Doctors say doing sports is good for people. Sports can help people to be healthy.

Parents must tell their children to exercise often because exercise is very useful to them. Exercise makes children healthy. At the same time, it can help to make children clever. This helps them to be good at their subjects and do many things very well.

____ You can walk, run, swim or ride a bike. Or you can play ball games like soccer, basketball and tennis. Choose one of your favorite sports to exercise. When you take exercise, you need to know what you are doing. And don't exercise too much at a time.

People always say the sloth（树懒）is lazy. Is it true? Well, the sloth really doesn't like moving. The slot h can only walk about 1.8 to 2.4 meters a minute. It's the slowest animal in the world.

Sloths live in the rainforest and trees are their homes. They like eating leaves and fruit on trees. They sleep in trees, too. They like sleeping and they usually sleep for about 20 hours a day. The mother slot h even gives birth to a baby in trees! They only come down from trees for one thing pooping（排便）. They poop every 4 to 8 days. That's because sloths move slowly and some scary animals will kill them. But sloths are good swimmers. They move fast in water.

There are two kinds of sloths. One kind has two toes（脚趾）on its front feet. The other one has three toes. Usually sloths have brown fur , but you can always see them in green, That's because there are some green algae（藻类）on their fur. With the green algae, it's not easy for those scary animals to find them.

But some people cut down many trees in the rainforest so sloths are losing their homes and they are in danger. We must do something to save them.

Donnie was not brave. When he made a mistake, he felt like it was the end of the world.  things changed when Ms White, a new teacher, came to his school. She taught Donnie maths.

It was a  (cloud) morning. After class, Ms White noticed Donnie was crying. She took him to the office and gently asked him what happened. Donnie explained that he made many mistakes in his class exercises.

At first, Ms White didn't know how to cheer up  young boy. She thought for a while.  (sudden), her eyes lit up. She found some erasers and put them in front of Donnie.

In March, in a show in Xingxian Village, people saw bamboo lions with colorful hair on a small stage（舞台）. If you stood nearby, you could see the workers  （连接）many long lines to the bamboo lions. A team of young men behind the stage controlled these lines to make the lions jump, shake and fight for a ball. People  （欣赏）the show and cheered.

"I'm so happy right now, " said Chen Jihong,24, who leads the team. Chen became interested in the dance and wanted to discover its  （秘诀）when he watched a lion dance show as a child.

If people want to （创造）a bamboo lion, they usually starts with finding the right bamboo. " The bamboo must come from the  （东边）of mountains because the bamboo there is stronger. It takes at least a month to make a lion, " he said.

A week after climbing Mount Elbrus in Russia, the highest mountain in Europe, Zhou Yichen, 11, remembered everything about the exciting trip.

At 3 am on July 16, Yichen put on crampons（冰爪）over his big boots and started climbing up the1 path.

One day, the emperor Qin Shi Huang, ordered his soldiers to capture（俘虏）some young men. He sent the young men to build the Great Wall of China. A young man named Fan Xiliang didn't want to get captured.  But he had nowhere to go and didn't know where to hide. When he heard the soldiers coming toward him, he was terrified. At that time, a woman named Meng Jiang was passing by Fan Xiliang. She saw the poor man and saved him. Fan Xiliang said thanks to Meng Jiang.  Later on they got married.

Unfortunately, Fan Xiliang was found and captured. He was sent to the Great Wall and worked there. Meng Jiang waited for her husband day and night. Winter came, but Fan Xiliang failed to return.  She took them to the Great Wall, but she didn't find Fan Xiliang. Someone told her that Fan Xiliang had died and that he was buried in the Great Wall.  She cried so sadly that a part of the Great Wall collapsed（倒塌）and she finally found Fan Xiliang's body.

Ye Jiaying, also known as" Poetry's Daughter", passed away on November 24,2024, at the age of 100. Ye was famous for creating, studying and teaching the beautiful art of Chinese poetry（诗词）。

" In my view, studying classical Chinese poetry can help me feel deeply, imagine widely, and look far into the future. " Ye once said. " The study of poetry is not a goal that I go for, but a strength that supports me when I meet difficulties, " she wrote at age 87.

Ye was born to a family of intellectuals in Beijing in 1924. She learned classical poetry and English from a young age. However, Ye's life has much sadness. She lost her mother when she was only 17 years old, and her eldest daughter died when Ye reached middle age. But she never gave up. In college, she studied poetry from the Tang and Song dynasties with a famous master of Chinese literature Gu Sui, who greatly influenced her.

In the 1950s and 1960s, she taught at universities in Taiwan. Then, she moved to Canada in 1969. In 1979, she started giving free speeches on the Chinese mainland in the holidays. In 2018 and 2019, she gave away all her money, about 35.68 million yuan, to Nankai University. She was given The Touching China award in 2020.

At 92, she picked 218 ancient poems for kids and made videos to explain and read them. Even at 96, she gave talks at Nankai University, sitting in a wheelchair. Those who listened to her speeches said she made it easy to understand poetry and guided students to learn step by step.

Dai Jinhua, a woman professor of Chinese literature（文学）at Peking University, once said, " It is Ye who makes me see the wisdom of a teacher and encourages me to become one. "
