Body Mass Index (BMI) is a way to check if a person has a healthy body weight. The formula for BMI is: BMI= weight (kg)/ [height (m)]². For healthy adults in China, a normal BMI is between 18. 5 and 23. 9. A BMI between 24 and 27. 9 is considered overweight. A BMI of 28 or higher is considered obese (肥胖). 

According to the National Health Commission (NHC), if things keep going the way they are now, by 2030, about 70. 5% of adults in China could be overweight, and 31. 8% of children could face the same problem. Being overweight can easily lead to high blood pressure, diabetes (糖尿病), heart and blood vessel problems, and even some kinds of cancer. 

Lei Haichao, head of the NHC, talked about a three-year program across the country to help people keep their weight under control and to encourage a healthier lifestyle. This program mainly teaches people to eat well, take exercise, and keep a healthy weight. 

Healthy experts advise people to eat a mix of healthy foods, with about half of your everyday calories coming from carbs (碳水化合物). They also encourage people to eat until 70% full for long-term weight control. Keeping a regular sleep habit is also important because staying up late can lead to unhealthy eating habits and weight gain. 

Few activities in life can be seen timeless (永恒的). But reading a book is one of them and it is popular around the world. That's why April 23rd is World Book Day. This celebration (庆祝) of reading is the biggest of its kind in over 100 countries. Here are two of my favorite books. 

Nancy Drew Mystery Stories

Nancy Drew Mystery Stories has fascinated millions of girls for a while. It has been nearly 90 years. I still remember picking up my first book. I wanted to know what could be so special about the pretty girl on the cover. I found that Nancy is a teenage detective. She is so brave and clever that I like her so much. What Nancy does still touches readers today. 

The Hardy Boys

I love stories that people must use their minds and team spirit (精神) to solve problems. That's why I am rereading The Hardy Boys by Franklin W. Dixon. In these detective（侦探的） stories, the clever boys work together to solve problems! When things get worse, the Hardy boys are never worried because they know they have great partners to work with. So they always get bad people in the end. 

Reading doesn't just teach you new words. Good stories can teach you important lessons about life. Books can also take you to new worlds and excite you. So pick up your favorite book, and read it on World Book Day. 

Late in autumn, the little trees in the yard became so weak in the wind. "How could you spend the winter?" a sweet and smart cat, Kitten, said to a tree. "Let me weave (织) a beautiful scarf for you!"

So, Kitten started to weave. Her friends were playing football outside. "Kitten, let's play together. It's your favourite ball game," they said. 

"Sorry, I can't. I must weave the scarf for the little tree," said Kitten. 

"It's not that cold yet," said Kitten's friends. They were right—it was still warm and the winter was far away. So, Kitten began to play with her friends. They had a lot of fun. But in the afternoon, the weather changed and the little tree's leaves were torn down by the rain. 

"Oh, I shouldn't have played and forgotten my promise!" Kitten felt very sorry and continued with the scarf without going to sleep. The next morning, Mother Cat advised Kitten to have a rest. Kitten would like to rest, but she couldn't stop weaving when thinking of her promise to the little tree. 

Soon, winter came. The little tree was shivering (哆嗦) with cold. Kitten wove without stopping and finally the scarf was done. Wearing the scarf, the little tree felt as warm as in the spring sunshine. 

"You've kept your word, my child. I'm proud of you," said Mother Cat happily.

Hello everyone! Today I'd like to talk about staying healthy. 

England is well-known for a special reason. A local group called Cycling UK  (create) the"100 Women in Cycling" list every year. It praises women and girls who encourage others  (try) cycling. 

At the age of 10, Iona was  (young) girl on the list. The Week Junior interviewed Iona and her father Ian, who inspired  (she) love for cycling. 

Two years ago, they finished their first long cycle tour. Iona enjoys cyeling because she can enjoy many beautiful  (view) along the way. She thinks cycling in the Netherlands is fantastic since it has plenty of roads only for cycling.  a wonderful place!

Iona advises nervous beginners to ride in parks first, and then  (slow) practice on small roads and later on main roads. Now she cycles 1. 5 miles to school alone and also advises her friends to join her. 

Iona and her father are planning to ride from London  Paris. It is a 250-mile journey and it will take them about one week to complete. Iona believes cyclists have  great time during the process. She says cycling not only makes people enjoy the outdoors,  also is good for the environment. 

A new study has found that older wild animals are very important. They have valuable (知识) that helps their groups live. Researchers studied (千) of papers about older animals, such as their influence on the environment and the situations they face. 

Older animals help their group members in many ways. Older birds are better at finding food and (安全) places for babies, so the young birds are more likely to live. Older elephants are good at taking care of themselves as well as others and watching out for (风险) like lions and dangerous environments. Grandmother whales use their experience to help families find food when it is not (足够). 

However, older animals are in great danger now. Too much fishing makes the number of older fish drop fast. Researchers (警告) that in areas where hunting is common, the situation of older animals is worse because people want to get some parts of their bodies. 

The researchers advise that older animals should be (保护). They also suggest that fishing companies should take it (严肃) and stop catching too much to help with the whole population. 

Chinese calligraphy is one of the most important traditional Chinese cultures. calligraphy

Many people learn calligraphy  their free time. At first, they may find it hard to hold the brush and write well. But  giving up, they try more. , they'll fall in love with it. When we  calligraphy, we need to calm down, focus on the characters, and learn from . It builds our confidence and helps us to  Chinese culture better. It is a special gift from our ancestors, guiding us to become much  and making us better. 

Last weekend, our school organized a volunteer activity to help the old people. When I got my task to visit Mr. Wilson, an 82-year-old man who lived alone, I felt a little1 . I thought it would be hard to communicate with an old man and the volunteer work would be boring.2 with my school task unfinished, I decided to try my best. 

When I arrived at his small house, Mr. Wilson sat quietly by the window. I could even hear the soft ticking of an old wall clock. He stared at a broken3 . He said that it had broken down a week earlier. It was the only comfort he had after his4 died, bringing him daily news, old songs, and a little warmth to his life.5 it, his life had become boring and long. As he said, his eyes were full of6 .

After nearly an hour of work, I finally found the problem. I fixed it with a tool and put the radio back together. When I11 it on, the familiar sound of a news reporter's voice filled the room. Mr. Wilson's face suddenly became12 . He held my hand tightly and said"thank you" over and over again. At that moment, I felt a strong sense of13 .

Find a new friend in the new year. That friend is just you! Everyone expects kindness, respect and love from a good friend and you shouldn't have to go far to find them. 

● What does self-love mean?

Loving yourself, also called self-love, means being as kind to yourself as you are to others. Self-love means giving yourself the love, care and respect you might give your friends and family.  Try to speak to yourself with kindness and encouragement.

Studies show that self-love can help with friendships, schoolwork and health. Learning to love who you are helps you know how you feel about yourself. This makes you believe in yourself. You'll feel that you are worth good things. It doesn't mean you'll be happy all the time, but when you face challenges, they'll be easier to overcome. There is always someone looking out for you because that person is you. 

● Love yourself better.

Don't compare yourself to others. Being kind to yourself is important, especially when you make mistakes.  Tell yourself that everyone gets things wrong sometimes. Then work out what you could do differently next time. 

How about writing down your good things? You can keep that list and look at it often to remind you that you are amazing. Before you go to bed, think about three things that went well for you that day. This will help you see the positives in your life.

Scientists have found facts that raccoons in the US are changing their appearance as they spend more time near humans. The researchers think it's the start of"domestication（驯化）", which is a type of evolution（进化）. Evolution is how living things change over time to fit into their environment and improve their chances of staying alive, and domestication means changing to fit in with human environments. 

In cities or towns where there are a lot of people, there is often much leftover food in rubbish bins and not many enemies. So wild animals can gradually change to fit into the life here and domesticate themselves. Fully domesticated animals, like dogs and cats, often have smaller teeth, curly tails, short noses and soft ears compared with their wild relatives such as wolves and lions. 

A team of students led by Raffaëla Lesch analyzed almost 20, 000 pictures of raccoons across the US. Their study found that raccoons living in cities had shorter noses than their relatives living in the countryside. This change may be connected with their behavior. Animals that develop gentler behaviors have shorter noses. Lesch says, "Leftover food is really the starter of it all". 

Raccoons are mainly active at night and are known for looking for food from rubbish bins. Getting to bins, which are often near humans, requires raccoons to be quite tame-or be friendly and not scared of humans. As Lesch explains, "All they have to do is stay around us and not be aggressive (有攻击性的), and then they can enjoy a good meal on anything we throw away". 

Some experts think that the signs of domestication, like short noses, help to make animals seem less dangerous or more lovely to humans. However, not all scientists agree with Lesch's study. Although raccoons could ever become truly domesticated, they are still wild animals. 

In a world that is fast and not close online, the Grandma Stand is a reminder of something simple but important: everyone needs to be heard, and there's power in human connection. This activity invites anyone and everyone to stop by, sit for a while, and share a conversation with a"grandma"—wise, warm, and wonderfully understanding. 

As Grandma Nancy recently told CBS News with a smile, "We' re loving people as a rule. " Her words show exactly what makes this project so special: a welcoming space where people of all ages can stop, talk, laugh, or simply be listened to. 

The idea began back in 2012 in New York City, thanks to Mike Matthews. After seeing how a heartfelt chat with his 95-year-old grandmother Eileen lifted a friend's spirits, he knew there was something powerful in grandmotherly warmth. It started as a small booth（摊位）and became a regular Saturday routine of open-hearted dialogue on street corners across the city. 

Even after Eileen died at the amazing age of 102, Matthews thought the world still needed that gentle listening ear. So he brought back the Grandma Stand with a bright purple booth (Eileen's favorite color) and a changing group of grandmas who were ready to give care, encouragement and wise insight. 

In places like McKinney and Texas, the Grandma Stand has become a local highlight (热门地点), drawing neighbors for encouraging and free conversations. Later, the Grandma Stand appears throughout November and December with the goal of bringing people together—especially during times when people might feel lonely or stressed. 

It's a gentle reminder to slow down, hear one another, and remember that kindness is a gift we all can give. 

My cousins were raised in a wealthy family. We loved to go to their house because it was so big and nice. Best of all, it had a fantastic swimming pool. 

One thing that always touched me about my cousins was that they didn't think they were better than anyone else, even though they were rich. The reason was that my Uncle John and Aunt Kate made sure they were not spoiled（溺爱）with gifts. The pool was a perfect example of this. 

One day in the summer, my cousins were bored and hot, so they turned to my Uncle John, "Dad, we' re the only kids in this neighbourhood without a pool. Can we have one?"

"Of course you can!" agreed their father. "A pool it is! It will be started tomorrow. " The kids were amazed to see how easily he said yes. 

Early the next day, my uncle woke up everyone and brought them downstairs. "Come on outside. I have a surprise for you!" he said. "Close your eyes. " They did, and he guided them to the backyard. "Now hold out your hands, " he said. When they opened their eyes, each had a brand-new shovel（铲子）in their hands. 

A look of shock came over their faces. Then, their dad said with a smile, "You can have a pool, but you' re going to have to dig it!"

At first, the digging went slowly. They were tired every day. But as the week passed, they began to see their work take shape. Within ten days, they had the pool completely dug out. Then, the workers came and poured the cement（水泥）. In another week, the pool was fully completed and they had played a part in building it. They were filled with pride!

Years later, one of my cousins joked to me, "I never asked my dad if I could borrow the car because I was afraid I'd have to build it myself!"
