Have you ever looked at the sky and wondered what is out there? Do you know about the members of the solar system? The word"solar" means"connected with the Sun". The solar system includes the Sun and everything that moves around it. Maybe you know a lot about our Earth. But how much do you know about Mars?
Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun and the next planet after the Earth. It is the only planet whose surface can be seen from the Earth, and it is about half the size of our planet. The surface of Mars is more like the Earth than any other planet, but it is much colder because it is further from the Sun.
Mars is often called"the red planet" because its rocks are dark red. There are windstorms on Mars. The Romans named it after their god of war because of its colour.
There is life on Earth because the weather is neither too hot nor too cold, and there is air and water. But is there life on Mars? People have studied Mars for many years. On August 6th, 1996, scientists said that a piece of rock from Mars, which fell to the Earth 13,000 years ago, showed possible signs of life on Mars. However, 10years later, some scientists still didn't agree that there was life on Mars. We may not be sure about life on Mars until a sample (样本) of life is brought back. Some further researches are still being done in many countries.
