When talking about how children spend their free time,choices vary from child to child.

Outdoor Play. For younger children,this can mean just going outside and running around in circles,or playing simple games with friends.For older children,outdoor play may be a little more focused. These sports help them build up strength and make friends.

Indoor Play.  Young children may be unable to run around all the time. Girls may like playing with dolls together with their sisters or friends,while boys prefer toy cars. Parents should allow their children to play as much as possible as long as they are doing it in a proper way.

Rest and Relaxation.This is not just lying down and taking a short sleep.

This can make time quiet and fun.But if children find reading difficult or boring,they can listen to audio books(有声书)instead.In this way,they can enjoy stories while drawing or doing something else.However,not all relaxation activities are beneficial for children.Allowing children to watch TV a lot isn't good for them.

There's no better way to start the holidays than with a holiday movie.The storylines of these movies are often silly and easy to understand.The characters are not reasonable enough.The plot moves too fast to be realistic.Even so,the happy endings make you feel good.And as it turns out, there are reasons behind the joy you get from watching them.

Holiday movies are usually relaxing.Watching them is good for our physical health.

According to a study published in 2020 in the book Nostalgia Now:Cross-disciplinary  Perspectives on the Past in the Present, holiday movies can lower stress hormones(荷尔蒙)and improve cardiovascular(心血管的)health because the movies are always full of fun.

Holiday movies do more than just benefit our bodies.They can also improve our mental health.Courtney Cope,a scientist,once said,"When it comes to holiday movies,we know they are always going to work out in the most positive way. It's a nice vacation from reality for our minds."In fact,when we are watching these movies,we imagine ourselves in a perfect world.

Besides,holiday movies enable us to see things in a new way or feel encouraged to make a difference.We often see characters that we respect overcome (克服)all kinds of difficulties.The movies serve as a reminder that even in the worst of times,there is always hope.

Moreover,most holiday movies are family-friendly.When we watch them with others,we create shared memories and strengthen relationships.The laughter and joking about an unrealistic  movie create a positive bonding experience,which makes us feel closer and "at home"for the holidays.The shared memories and experiences make the holidays more meaningful.

It was the school's talent show,and it was the first time for Abby to perform with the band  —The Racket.Abby no longer felt  1 at all when singing during practices because she had got used to it and really loved it.However,the idea of 2 on the stage was worrying her.They had spent the last month working hard to perfect the songs to make sure they could  3 a pretty good show.

Abby sat backstage and saw her band members cheering with each other,but she knew how she  felt:4 .She kept imagining walking onstage,opening her mouth to sing,but nothing would come out.

As the band members went onstage,Abby's legs moved and carried her over to the microphone,but her5 seemed to be flying somewhere.And before she even knew it,the first song was half done.It all came 6 .All the practice was paying off.Since Abby knew the song so well,she really didn't have to think much about what she was doing.Suddenly,she realized  that she was7 the moment.She just carried on like the audience wasn't really there,and she felt no different from being at practice.The most exciting part of the performance came during  the song—Let's Make a Racket! In the end,the8 off the stage jumped to their feet and sang along with the band happily.

As the band ran offstage,the headmaster smiled at them and said,"I probably know who's going to9 the prize for Audience Favourite this year."

Abby wasn't too worried about the prize,though.She knew she had already got something even better:the10 to perform on the stage.

Long ago, people lived happily under the rule of a king. The people of the kingdom were very pleased as they lived a wonderful life. Once, the king travelled on foot to meet and communicate with his people.

After several weeks of travel, the king returned to the palace. He was quite happy with his journey and found his people living a wonderful life. However, he had one regret(遗憾).

He couldn't stand the pain in his feet because it was his first trip on foot covering a long distance. He complained to his ministers(大臣) that the roads weren't comfortable and that they were very stony. He said he could not stand the pain and that he was very worried about the people who had to walk along those roads, as it would be painful for them too!

Considering all this, he ordered his ministers to cover the roads in the whole country with leather so that the people of his kingdom could walk comfortably.

The king's ministers were puzzled to hear his order, as it would mean that thousands of cows would have to be killed in order to get enough leather. And it would cost too much money.

Finally, a wise man from the ministry came to the king and said that he had another idea. The king asked what it was. The minister said,"Instead of covering the roads with leather, why don't you just cut a piece of leather into the right shape to cover your feet?"

The king was very surprised by his suggestion and spoke highly of the wisdom of the minister. He ordered a pair of leather shoes for himself and requested (要求) all his countrymen to wear shoes as well.

This picture is drawn by my brother Eric.It is so colorful.It's a  (sun)  day.There are some tall buildings which are all different colors and shapes.In the backyard, the grass is bright green and there's a path going up to buildings.

There are so many details in Eric's picture,too.On the left,there's a multi-colored cat  with pointy ears.  the middle,there's a small blue cat.Above the cats, there's a butterfly,flying around in the sunshine.Can you see the colored spots on (it)wings?I like the purple cat  (good)of all.It looks a bit like a castlel

I love this picture I can see different things every time.At first,I thought there were only buildings in the background,but then I (notice) the butterfly!Eric has so much (imagine).Look at the right of the picture. What do you think the dark red outline shows?It isn't very clear,but sometimes I see a large bird with light blue wings,and other times I think it could be a streetlight.This happens a lot in Eric's picture.It's (true)fun!It makes me think of a story I read once about a magic town,where everyone has adventures.The picture is bright and cheerful and it makes  (I)feel happy.

A low-budget film Dear You(《给阿嬷的情书》)has become a surprise hit during the May Day holiday,

2026.It tells the story of Ye Shurou,a grandmother from Chaoshan who waited for her husband Zheng Musheng for many years.   .Finally,he finds the hidden story of Xie Nanzhi,a Thai woman of Chaoshan family background.

 .Xie Nanzhi was Zheng Musheng's sworm sister ( 结拜姐妹).She sent money and wrote letters in Zheng's name for 18 years after his death,quietly taking care of Ye Shurou from afar.Years later,Xie's adopted son( 养子)reads those letters to Grandma  Ye,telling a long-hidden story.

The film got a high score of 9.0 out of 10 on Douban.  .Unlike big action or comedy movies,it uses a simple and honest style.It shows the real lives of common people during waves of moving to other countries.

The director Lan Hongchun is from Chaoshan.He says the story is 90%real and 100%honest.    .He says that long ago,many families hid the news of a loved one's death and kept sending money and letters as if the person were still alive. "In the childhood memories of Chaoshan people,Grandma is always the warmest person," he says.

Anger often makes us uncomfortable.Seeing your child's anger can be especially uncomfortable.In order to relieve(缓解)this feeling,parents often encourage children to "stop crying"and say things like "It's nothing to cry about."It's moments like those that plant the seeds of unhealthy anger.The"stop crying"parents are just doing what they were taught by their own parents,who were probably taught that by their parents on and on. However,we should learn how to create healthy anger in our kids.

If a child never sees his or her parents express anger,he or she may never express anger,either.But if parents always express their anger loudly,their child may start to think of anger as something that is always frightening.The first thing you can do to create healthy anger in your children is to practice creating healthy anger in yourself.Once you're better at experiencing anger and expressing it in a healthy way,you'llbe able to set a good example for your kids.

Stopping kids from expressing their feelings is wrong.You may feel bad when you believe you are wrong.When children express their feelings and are told that it's nothing to cry about,they come to know that they themselves are bad.

We need to raise them in an environment where it's safe to express feelings.Once you feel more comfortable with your own anger,you can teach your children why anger is a helpful feeling.When your kids express anger,help them examine what it is that has made them angry.Why did it make them angry?How did it do that?Then,you can teach them that those feelings are never wrong and our expressions of feelings are in our control.

Anger is natural and normal,and it can be experienced and expressed in a healthy way.

    Jenny was a student in my class.She lived in a happy family.She had three sisters and

    she was the youngest.     She seemed to be glued(粘合)to her mother's skirts. Her three older sisters took the bus to school every morning,but she was always driven to school by her mother.

One Friday,Jenny's mother said to me,"My husband and I have to be away to Europe on business for two weeks.I'm very worried about Jenny.She is so young and weak.Will you please help me look after her while we're away?"

As a mother of a kid,I knew how worried a mother would be if she was away from her child.

Liam never thought much about his grandfather's hobby,Chinese calligraphy.Every  weekend,his grandpa would sit at the desk,  1  a brush and write characters on rice paper.To Liam,it was just an old-fashioned skill that couldn't be interesting. 

One day,his school announced a"Cultural Heritage"competition.Students were2 to present something traditional.Liam had no idea what to do.He thought about making a video about local food,but his friend Emma suggested,"Why not learn something from your grandpa?He is so good at calligraphy."

When Jim was eleven,he fished with his father on an island lake.One evening just before the bass season started,they went fishing early.Soon,Jim's fishing rod bent (heavy).He pulled hard and caught a huge beautiful bass.

His father lit a match and checked his watch.It was ten o'clock,two hours (early)than  the  time  the  bass   season  opened.He  told  Jim (set)the big fish free.Jim felt sad and shouted that he would never catch such

 big bass again.He looked all over the lake —there were no other fishermen or boats around.Nobody would know if he kept the fish.

Still,Jim knew he must follow his father's words.He carefully removed the hook the bass's mouth and let it swim back into the dark lake.The big fish swam away quickly.

Since then,thirty-four years  (pass).Jim has never caught another fish as wonderful as that bass.However,he always thinks ofthis big bass whenever he faces ethical  (choose).His father taught him that knowing right from wrong is easy,  doing the right thing when nobody watches is truly hard.

Now this special memory (keep)in Jim's mind clearly.The story does not teach people to take chances to cheat.Instead,it tells us that sticking to correct rules can make (we)stronger for our whole life.

Parents teach kids to  from an early age.
