The new school year is coming. Who will be your new classmates? Will you sit alone or in pairs? In fact, there are many different classroom seating arrangements (排列). Let's take a look at some of them. 

Traditional Seating

Students sit alone in rows. This seating arrangement helps students listen to the teacher carefully. But it is not convenient for students to have discussions in class. 

Paired Seating

Two desks are put together. Students sit side by side. Sitting in pairs allows students to discuss and cooperate with their deskmates (同桌). However, some students can't focus on their lessons because they may chat with their deskmates. 

Group Seating

Students sit in small groups, facing each other. This arrangement is great for either large classes or small classrooms. It is good for group discussions and cooperation. But there is a problem. When students are doing group work, some of them may sit back and leave others to find a way out. 

U-Shape Seating

Desks are placed in a U-shape. This kind of seating creates an open space in the middle. The teacher has enough space to move around. However, it takes up more classroom space. 

Every coin has two sides. Every seating arrangement has its own advantages and disadvantages. 

My uncle Jason is a fireman. Today I visited him at the fire station. It was a nice day full new things to see and learn!

The fire station looks like a house. The most exciting part is the garage (车库). There are number of fire trucks in it, ready for calls. The garage is also a place for firemen to exercise. They must stay strong  (save) people. For the safety of firemen, special masks (面罩), coats and helmets (头盔) are always necessary. But having them on is like wearing a winter coat in summer, both heavy  hot!

When Uncle Jason showed me his bedroom, an emergency call  (sudden) came in—a fire in a house! He and some other firemen rushed out as soon as possible. When they  (return), Uncle Jason told me they saved a family's pet and put out the fire.

Think like a kid. Kids are curious about everything. They are always asking big questions like "Can I invent a magic mirror to see the future?" Think like a kid, and you will push yourself to have big ideas. 

Set clear goals. Without goals, big ideas are nearly daydreams.  They guide you to your destinations (目的地). After you set goals, you know exactly what to do and where to go. The clearer your goals are, the better thinker you will be. 

 Without challenges, there will never be big ideas. Without challenges, there will never be much progress. Picture your challenges in your head, and you will think big and get unexpected solutions. 

Think of a better world. A better world needs everyone's efforts. But remember that thinking big isn't about being famous as a single person.

"The Five-Starred Red Flag flies high…" Whenever we hear the song, we will sing along. The song is called Ode to the Motherland (《歌唱祖国》). It was written by Wang Xin. 

On October 1, 1949, Wang Xin attended the Founding Ceremony (开国大典) of the People's Republic of China. He was deeply moved and decided to write a song at once for New China with his love and pride. He had many ideas but none was good enough to him. 

One day in September 1950, on the way to Beijing Railway Station, Wang Xin walked past Tian' anmen Square. The moment he saw the Five-Starred Red Flag flying in the wind, a few words for the song came into his mind. On the train back to Tianjin, when he saw the fields and mountains outside the window, the main part of the song began to take shape, "Over the mountains, across the plains (平原)…"

When Wang Xin arrived home, he said with excitement, "I made it! I made it!" He completed the whole song right away. The next morning, he went to a local newspaper, hoping to get the song published. But it wasn't accepted. 

However, Wang Xin didn't give up. He led a music group to perform the song in different places. The song really brought people power, pride and more love for the country. 

In September 1951, Ode to the Motherland was finally published in the People's Daily and got popular across the country. From then on, it was sung during many important national events. 

Wang Xin once said, "I've written many works in my life, but I believe I've only written 'two songs'. One is Ode to the Motherland, a song written with musical notes (音符), and the other is a song written for the motherland with all my heart. "

We have many ways to get close to nature, such as dancing in the rain, stepping on fallen leaves or digging in the soil, but my favourite is walking barefoot (赤脚). 

Walking barefoot can be enjoyable and helpful. It can help us sleep better and feel rested in mind and body. It can also build our foot muscles (肌肉) and improve our balance. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, walking barefoot can be good for our health. 

When you want to try walking barefoot, there's no need to hurry. At first, walking barefoot for 10 minutes can be fine. After that, add 5 minutes every day until you can walk for 20 to 30 minutes. If your feet hurt, take a break or curtail the time. 

Walking barefoot, however, isn't always safe. People with health problems like flat feet or back pain should avoid this practice. What's more, walking barefoot in cold or wet environments might cause health problems. To make walking barefoot safe, remember the following points:

·Choose safe places, like soft grass or warm sand. 

·Stay away from things like rocks or broken glass. 

·Keep shoes at hand if you worry that your feet will get too sore. 

·Listen to your body—stop if you feel pain or discomfort. 

Walking barefoot is a great way to feel connected with nature, but it's important to stay safe and consider your own health condition. 

Last month, the local community invited kids to sing for the elderly at the nursing home. Grandma asked if I could come and sing the song that she taught me when I was a little girl. I didn't want to let her down, but singing in public really troubled me a lot. 

"I can't do it. I'm too shy. " I told my worry to my friends Molly and Emily. 

"You're not alone, " said Molly. "I feel nervous about singing in public too. "

"Don't worry! I have an idea!" said Emily. "I mean, I always feel braver with friends. How about the three of us sing together?"

After talking about it for a while, we agreed happily. Over the next few days, we practiced the song so many times that we could not get it out of our heads. 

Finally, the big day came. I wasn't the only one who was nervous. Molly's legs were shaking. Emily's hands were wet, but she still encouraged us, "We can become braver and stronger when we are together. "

Emily was right. As soon as we started singing, our nervousness went away. The pretty and relaxing song just seemed to sing itself. The hall was filled with cheers. Some of the elderly even joined us. With more people singing together, we sang more confidently. When we finished singing, Grandma came onto the stage and gave us all a warm group hug.

In 2023, a Chinese leader at the United Nations showed a special toy-the Luban lock. He used it to share an idea, "If we work together, we stay strong. If we fall apart (破裂), we may not make it." This simple toy helped everyone understand the power of teamwork.

The Luban lock is named after Lu Ban, a famous woodworker around 2,500 years ago. People call him the "father of carpentry (木工)" in China. He made it to test (测试) his son's skills. Finally his son tried all night and put it back together by morning.

At first the Luban lock had only three pieces that fit together. Later, people created bigger types with six, twenty-four, or more pieces. The one people like best has six pieces in different colors: red, blue, white, yellow, brown and black. Putting it together needs much time and careful thinking—just like solving a hard problem! The Luban lock is also special because it comes from an old Chinese building trick called mortise-and-tenon joints(榫卯结构). Long ago, workers used this way to build strong houses—without nails (钉子) !

Now, in Tengzhou, Shandong Province, many people still make Luban locks. It is both a fun game and a piece of history. When you play with it, you're learning from the clever minds of ancient Chinese people!

Uh-oh! Our country has made a plan to help everyone keep fit! Studies show that by 2030. 70.5% of adults and 31.8% of children could be overweight (超重的). So, having a healthy weight is very important for all of us. 

★What is a healthy weight?

Your Body Mass Index (BMI，体重指数) can help you find out! You can use your height and weight to work out if you are fit. For Chinese teenagers, a BMI between 15 and 22 is healthy.  And over 26 means obesity (肥胖).

★How can we eat?

First, eat more kinds of foods. Try to eat 12 or more different foods every day and 25 or more every week.  During each meal, remember to have vegetables before meat, fish, eggs and beans. Finally, eat rice, noodles and potatoes. Third, eat slowly and on time. No more snacks after 9 pm!

You need at least 150 minutes of moderate (中等的) exercise every week. You can ride a bike, play basketball, or go jogging. Also, pay attention to your sleep.  This helps your body grow strong and controls hunger.

Keeping fit is not that hard! Everyone should try it! Remember, small changes make a big difference.

①If you go to some subway stations in Beijing now, you may see little footprints (脚印) on the escalators (自动扶梯). They tell riders: Instead of standing on one side, they can stand side by side.

②For years, standing on the right and walking on the left has been a rule for escalator riders. They think it is a good habit and helps everyone go faster.

③However, there are problems behind it.

④Standing on one side is harmful to the escalators. The right side becomes heavy while the left side stays light. Over time, the escalators may lean (倾斜). Also, it can't really make everyone go faster. Studies show that when people stand on one side, the escalator can carry about 80 people every minute. But when everyone stands side by side, the escalator can carry over 100 people!

⑤Most importantly, walking on an escalator is dangerous. Escalator steps are high. People can fall and get hurt easily.

⑥So, what is the best way to take escalators? Just hold on and stand still on both sides.

Do you ever feel like having a little adventure (历险) ? Dou Bao certainly does! This 1.5-year-old capybara (水豚) lives in a zoo in Yangzhou. She ran away with two other capybaras on April 3!

This all happened while zookeepers were sleeping. Ba Zong, a 3-year-old boy capybara, broke a wooden window with his head and ran away. Dou Bao and anther girl capybara, Duo Duo, quickly followed him into the night. When morning came, zookeepers then teamed up for the big chase (追捕).

Ba Zong was the first to be found, swimming happily in a pond. When he saw the keepers, he swam faster. The keepers chased him for a whole day and caught him.

A few weeks later, the keepers found Duo Duo. The 2-year-old capybara likes to hide underwater. The keepers had to catch her with a net. Poor Duo Duo lost 2 kilograms during the run.

All had returned except Dou Bao! On May 11, the zoo sent out a reward poster (悬赏公告) to catch her. Her keepers missed her terribly and prepared her favorite snacks: melons and fresh grass. Luckily, on June 3. this furry explorer was finally caught. Her keepers were amazed to find Dou Bao had gained half a kilo!

The zoo official said that their "runaway child had returned home". Dou Bao is now reunited with Ba Zong and Duo Duo! The search was finally over.

Anna is an old woman. She has a small fruit shop in a town, but she never eats them. She wants to make more money.

A little boy Tom, one of her neighbours, often1 oranges there. Every time after giving the money to Anna, he always chooses one,2 a piece of it and says it's not sweet. Then give the rest back to Anna. Anna often takes a bite, smiles and says, "But it's3 to me."
