With schools closed and restrictions(限制) on public activities, it can be a difficult time for young people, who suddenly can't spend time with their friends and family in person.
However, the situation has already led to some creative ways of using technology to keep in touch with those people, from video calls and group chats to online games. Experts say that young people might find the social restrictions on seeing their friends in real life stressful, which is why technology can be helpful.
"Keeping relationships is very important for health," says Dr Amanda Gummer, creator of Dr Gummer's Good Play Guide. She adds that this is more important the older you get. "Not maintaining these friendships can make it more difficult for you to get back into school when the time comes," she says. Chezzy Kennedy, from a training program called Confident Kids, agrees."Staying connected to those we care about is even more important now than ever before," she says. "We can suddenly feel quite lonely."
Messaging apps and video calls are good for checking in with friends, or organizing group chats to keep in touch. "Video chats are a great way to keep connected with your wider friendship group," says Gummer. Experts agree that there are plenty of ways to be creative with video chats besides talking to friends. Gummer suggests, "A virtual(虚拟的) film-and-pizza night can work well."
Sharna Jackson, an expert on young people and technology, has lots of ideas too. She suggests taking turns to teach friends something you're really good at— such as painting and drawing, perhaps. She also thinks that online games can play a really good role.
"It's good to play together. It's social; there's problem-solving and turn taking, and it helps you develop different skills," she says.

A mindset is the way of thinking. Your mindset can affect almost every part of your daily life. Dr Carol Dweck, a scientist who studies how the mind works, has discovered that people with a fixed(固定的) mindset deal with problems in a different way from those with growth mindset.
Imagine that two students, Anna and Amy, are taking a really hard math test in September. Anna has a fixed mindset, which means she believes that a person's intelligence is fixed. Amy has a growth mindset, which means she believes that the intelligence can grow. Not everyone can become a genius, but they can improve the skills they have and develop new ones.
So which is right? It's Amy. Believe it or not, research shows that you really can get smarter by working hard, practicing, and challenging yourself
As you know, your brain is made up of billions of neurons(神经元). They are all connected and send messages to each other. Scientists have found that when we learn, neurons make new connections and old connections grow stronger. But if connections aren't used, they will break down. So, learning is like exercise for your brain. The more you work it out, the stronger and smarter your network of neurons will become.
According to Dr Carol Dweck's studies, people with a fixed mindset worry about grades. They're afraid of looking stupid when they make mistakes. People with a growth mindset care about learning not grades. They learn from their mistakes and try to find different ways of solving problems. They ask for help when necessary. In only two years, babies learn to walk, talk and feed themselves. They never worry about looking stupid when learning. If they make mistakes, they just try again.
Dweck's team also discovered that, with some work, kids can choose to have a growth mindset. They can do better in school. The trick is to notice what mindset you have. If you ever think yourself stupid, it's not true. You just have not learned how to do something yet.
(1)、Which of the following is TRUE about neurons?A、Learning is not always helpful to them. B、Not all of them are connected to each other. C、They can make new connections when we study. D、The connections among them will never break down.(2)、What might a man with a growth mindset agree about?A、You will look foolish whenI make mistakes in study. B、If you are smart enough, you can do everything easily. C、The mindset plays the most important role in people's life. D、Everyone can get smarter by working hard and practicing more.(3)、The writer gives the example of babies in Paragraph 5 to show that babies ____.A、learn new skills from mistakes B、easily make mistakes in daily life C、learn skills faster than older people D、have fewer worries than older people(4)、How did the writer develop his main idea?A、 B、By telling true stories. What time is it? The answer you give can be different, because you are in different Earth's time zones(时区). But how could you tell the time if you aren't anywhere on Earth?
Scientists are now thinking of creating a lunar(月球的) time zone. They believe it would be better for astronauts to communicate by using Moon Time, as they travel to, from, and across the Moon. At the moment, astronauts are using time zones of their own countries. But there could be safety problems caused by the differences in time-telling.
▲ Gravity(引力) influences how quickly or slowly time passes. Since gravity is weaker on the Moon, clocks run a bit faster there. After 24 hours, a lunar clock would be 56 microseconds ahead of a clock on Earth. Another point to consider is that a full day on Earth is about 24 hours between two sunsets. While on the Moon, it is nearly 709 hours, about 29.5 Earth days. This means that lunar nights can be around two weeks long, with only the Earth and the stars in the sky. With all this to think about, scientists need to decide whether it would be better to follow a time zone on Earth, or for the Moon to have its own special zone, which would have much longer days.
Scientists must consider other problems too. For example, who should be responsible for keeping the time zone going? And how can it be made practical for astronauts to use?
There are more countries planning Moon trips in the future. The idea of creating a time zone on the Moon would make these easier. And if a lunar time zone is set up, scientists could create time zones for other planets like Mars.
(1)、Scientists think that a lunar time zone can ____.A、keep the Moon clean B、keep astronauts healthy C、make the Moon trips safer D、make space travel faster(2)、Which of the following can be put in the blank____ in Paragraph 3?A、Setting up a lunar time zone is not easy. B、Setting up a special time zone is important. C、Scientists are holding different opinions. D、Scientists need to do a lot of experiments.(3)、If the Moon has its own special time zone, a full day of it can be about ____on Earth.A、56 microseconds B、24 hours C、two weeks D、29.5 days(4)、What is the writer's purpose in writing the passage?A、To give information about space travel. B、To introduce the idea of Moon Time. C、To describe an experience of time travel. D、To share news about landing on Mars. -

Have you ever seen a car without a driver? It sounds crazy, but these computer-driven driverless cars will soon be filling roads near you. Many companies have been designing and testing these cars, and the technology is there.
So how? The cars have sensors(感应器) all around which can find other cars and objects in the road. Road signs are read by cameras, and satellite navigation systems(卫星导航系统) are used so the car knows how to get where you want to go. All you have to do is type in the address! Finally, a central computer system takes in all the information that it receives from the sensors and cameras and works out when to speed up, stop and turn.
Sound like your idea of heaven(天堂)? Sitting back, looking out of the windows and even watching a film or reading a book while "driving" would be possible with this new technology. You wouldn't have to worry about remembering directions to where you're going. In addition, computers would also drive more safely than people—they would obey the rules and have quicker action times when in dangerous situations.
However, there are many drawbacks of driverless cars. Computers would have difficulties making ethical(道德的)decisions: if a child ran into the road, would the computer choose to hit the child or turn suddenly and potentially kill the car's passengers? Moreover, I personally find driving fun—I'd miss never driving a car myself. There would also be many other decisions to be made—should children, or drunk people, be allowed in a driverless car by themselves? Or would there need to be a person with a driving license in the car at all times?
I'm not certain I'd want a driverless car—but it's only a matter of time before they'll become more affordable and popular on our roads.
(1)、When using a driverless car, you need only ____.A、read the road signs carefully B、check the cameras C、put the address into the computer D、remember the directions(2)、The third paragraph mainly tells us about the____ of driverless cars.A、instructions B、standards C、advantages D、tests(3)、The underlined word "potentially" in Paragraph 4 means "____".A、possibly B、successfully C、especially D、naturally(4)、What's the writer's opinion about future driverless cars?A、They'll cause more accidents. B、They'll be less expensive. C、They'll use less energy. D、They'll run much faster. -

I came to the United States from Africa to live with my uncle Jim in Maryland. One year later, I lost my sight because of a serious illness.
Jim told me not to go out. He worried I would get lost or hit by a car. But I was dogged. I told him I'd pay attention. I believed I'd succeed. I must succeed. I must put my will into action. I dreamed of being a broadcaster.
Then a neighbor told me that a public library in Washington D.C. was offering a free course, specially designed for blind people. This was an important chance for me.
But how would I map my way? I knew that the American singer Ray Charles, also blind, got around on his own without a cane(手杖). His secret was to count steps. But I couldn't seem to do that way. Instead I developed my imagination, sensing the layout(布局) of places I visited and taking notes of landmarks in my mind.
At first, I would have to stop to imagine and map a new space in my mind. The next time I visited that place, I'd use that to find the way. Today, I am used to doing it. But I've still lost my way many times. I'd have to swallow my pride to ask for help, not thinking what others think or say about me.
Sometimes I'd be down and I'd consider giving up. Perhaps my uncle was right. Maybe I'd stay home and wait until someone came to help. On those days when I lost my way, I'd go to bed with a bad feeling. I had a strong wish to beat blindness and be successful, and that was usually enough to get me out of bed the next day and try again.
Along the way I learned to be patient with myself and realized that asking for help didn't diminish(贬低) me in any way. I've got three academic degrees so far.
Today, I'm a reporter and broadcaster. I've achieved my dream.
Yes, I've lost my way many times and found it again. Yes, I've come close to being hit by a car but never been hit by one. When people ask, "Aren't you afraid to be out alone?" The answer to me is clear: I would face danger and find happiness instead of staying home and being unhappy.

Understanding Graphics(图表)
When we are reading, we often see one or two graphics in a text. Have you ever thought about these questions: Why are they there? What information do they give? Do they help with our reading and understanding?
Graphics are things like pictures, maps, charts and tables. They give information to readers. Very often, we can see different kinds of graphics in books, magazines, and newspapers. Writers use graphics to get the readers' attention and give them some particular(特别的) information. Graphics help to understand the given information in a text. And graphics put the information in a particular order so that it's easy to understand when we take a quick look.
It is not always true that a picture is worth a thousand words. But many things are easier to be showed than to be told and they may also be easier to be understood. Graphics are just the right things that give a great deal of information but it doesn't take much time to read and understand.
The right way to read and understand a graphic is to look at the picture and the words together. In a graphic, only a few words are used to explain what the picture shows you. Sometimes, numbers and percentages (百分比) are also given to go with the words to explain things. Now look at the graphic. It is how a researcher used a graphic to show the number of hours spent sleeping by British teenagers each day. Can you understand it?
(1)、Which of the following is mentioned as a graphic?A、A letter. B、A poem. C、A map. D、A name card.(2)、The writer thinks graphics are important because ____.A、less space is taken on a page B、a picture is worth a thousand words C、a lot of time can be saved for writers D、many things are easier to be showed than to be told(3)、When we read a graphic, we should ____.A、find out if there are any tables in it B、put the information in the right order C、count how many words there are in it D、look at the picture and the words together(4)、The graphic given in the passage tells us that ____.A、5 B、 C、17% of the British teenagers sleep for 3~4 hours each day D、42% of the Chinese teenagers spend 6~7 hours sleeping each day -
