What if AI could help us go farther in space? Since early 2024, the European Space Agency's new AI Lab has been working on this idea.

"We are using AI in every part of a space mission to make exploration easier," says Lisa Denzer, the lab's lead, "From training astronauts to helping rovers (探测器) work on their own."

For example, AI makes virtual reality (VR) practice more real. Another tool is the "digital twin"—a computer copy of a real spacecraft. Teams use it to plan tasks, test ideas, and find problems early. AI also allows spacecraft and rovers to drive, land, and do experiments by themselves. This is very important for trips to Mars where communication is delayed (延迟). Real-time control from Earth is impossible.

However, space exploration brings challenges to AI tools, from hard environment to strict rules on size, weight, and power. That requires high-performance AI hardware (硬件). To face the challenges, ESA works with companies to develop such AI hardware. Scientists are also testing AI on the International Space Station. One example is developing large language models. These models can read thousands of pages of papers and quickly find answers to hard questions.

In the future, AI will help astronauts in a new way—with feelings. Smart AI tools may understand how astronauts feel and talk with them like a friend. "The future of space exploration will depend on AI," says Lisa. "It makes our work safer, faster, and more independent."

In January 2023, a little dog called Naonao was found to have cancer. The vet (兽医) said the usual treatment might not help. So the owner tried traditional Chinese veterinary medicine (TCVM, 中兽医学).

TCVM has been used in China to treat animals for thousands of years. Just like traditional Chinese medicine for human beings, TCVM has four main ways to check a pet's health. Vets not only look closely at the pet's skin, hair and tongue, but also carefully check its breath. They also slowly feel the heartbeat on its back leg. Besides, they will ask the pet's owner more questions about the pet's health. Sometimes, they use acupuncture (针灸), natural medicine, and gentle care to help sick animals get well.

TCVM is getting more and more popular in China. A recent report says there are about 124 million pet cats and dogs in China. In the next three years, over 30 million pets will become middle-aged or older. As most people treat their pets as close family members, TCVM works great to help them live longer and healthier lives.

TCVM is catching on outside China, too. In the US, some vets use acupuncture to help animals with pain. It's not just for small pets. Big animals like horses, cows, and even zoo animals can also get these useful treatments. Today, this special medical skill is winning more fans all over the world.

Who spends all day climbing trees and jumping around? The answer is "the monkey"!

Monkeys live in many different kinds of places.  Some stay on the grassland. Moreover, believe it or not, some monkeys even live in cities and towns nowadays.

A number of monkeys live in trees. And they like to move from one branch to another.  Some monkeys use their tails as a third arm. Other monkeys have "pads" on their bottoms to help them sit on branches without falling.

Snow monkeys are also a common type of monkey. Many of them live in the mountains of Japan. The winters there are very cold.  They like taking a bath in hot mountain water to have a relaxing time.

 Mother monkeys take care of their babies carefully as soon as they are born. A newborn monkey holds on to its mother's front.  When male monkeys grow older, they usually leave their families. However, most female monkeys stay with their mums until they have their own families and become mums themselves one day.

Helping others makes me happy

Helping others brings me happiness and makes my life meaningful. 

Jinhua Ham is a famous traditional food from Jinhua, Zhejiang Province. People first (start) making it over 1, 200 years ago. Now it is one of the top three hams in the world. 

People choose good meat and make it carefully,  it tastes delicious. They make great hams by (use) the back legs of the local"Liangtouwu" pig. Next, they put salt on the meat and dry it in the open air. The meat changes (slow). After 8 to 10 months, the ham turns red and looks nice. 

There is  story about its name. A Song Dynasty emperor named it"huotui", for its bright red color like fire. In the Yuan Dynasty, Marco Polo brought the idea back to (he) country. People in Europe were interested  it and began to cook with it. 

Now, Jinhua Ham is widely used in dishes. It makes the food taste much (good) than usual. Lots of people want (try) this delicious food. Many visitors buy it as a great present for their (friend). It shows people's wishes for good luck and a happy life. 

How to plan our time well? I have my own useful ways. When I study for forty-five minutes, I give （我自己）fifteen minutes to play the guitar or do some sports. This keeps my mind （新鲜）. Then I go back to study. I also set clear weekly plans for both study and fun. I usually make a （清单）of tasks for every week, then check them every Sunday. By following my plans, （最后，终于）I can achieve my goals. In fact, balance is not about giving up fun, but planning it well. In this way, we will not （失去）our interest in study.

My way of having fun

Ice-cream is a popular food all over the world. It has a long history and (丰富) food culture. It is made from milk, sugar and (新鲜) fruit. There are many different kinds of tastes, like strawberry and chocolate. Kids and adults all love this dessert. In (事实), this sweet treat came from ancient China. When Marco Polo brought binglao to Europe, it (变得) popular there.

Mum's tomato and egg is my family's favorite home dish. 

Every weekend, my mom goes to the market to buy  and eggs. She washes them and gets them ready . She puts warm love into every step of cooking, so she is  happy when she is cooking. Every time I enjoy the food, I feel so warm for  quiet love. 

Now I can cook this dish too,  mum's patient teaching and help. No food is as as home cooking. It brings back  the sweet memories of home.
