In the South China Sea, there is a group of Jiaren, or Chinese mermaids (美人鱼). Their tears become pearls (眼泪变成珍珠) after they fall. To the north of Kunlun Mountains, there is a creature (生物) called Xiangliu. It has nine heads with human faces but the body of a snake. These magic creatures are from the ancient story book Shan Hai Jing. 

Shan Hai Jing, also known as The Classic of Mountains and Seas, is said to be at least 2,200years old. It is about the culture and geography of China before the Qin dynasty. It has about31,000 words. The whole collection includes eighteen parts, talking about more than 550mountains and 300 seas. It also tells many interesting stories and creatures.

A famous story in the book is about Zhu Rong, the God of Fire. He was seen as having a beast-like (猛兽般的) body and a human face, riding around the sky on two dragons. When he had a big fight with Gong Gong, the God of water, Zhu Rong won. But after the fight, the human world became dark. Then he brought fire from heaven to the world and taught humans how to use it. 

It is an invaluable ancient book in China and thought as one of the treasures of Chinese culture.

Oxfam is a charity that helps people all over the world. Oxfam started in Oxford in 1942 when a group of people decided to help victims of famine(饥荒的受害者).

On May 12, 2008, a terrible earthquake happened in Wenchuan, Sichuan. Since then, people there 1 their new lives. Let's see some stories of them.

Gardening is my favourite hobby. My family usually spend summers in a small . It's not far from my hometown and very beautiful. There a garden in front of the house. My mother and grandmother grow  and fruit there. My father and I  them to plant the seeds(种子), water the plants and gather the crop. We usually have a good crop of strawberries, cucumbers and tomatoes. My younger brother and I eat a lot of  strawberries in summer, and my parents also make strawberry jam for winter. They are good for our health because we grow them by .

I grow my favourite flowers in my garden. Tulips (郁金香) appear in my little garden in  first.They grow very . Then are snapdragon (金鱼草) and other plants. Now I'm  an interesting book on gardening. The book is full of interesting tips on growing flowers. I learn a lot about how to grow roses. I hope to have nice roses next summer.

During autumn and winter I grow all kinds of flowers on the windowsills(窗台). My eyes can have a break when I look at different plants. It's good for my health.

When you climb Mount Huashan, you must be  because it's very steep.

The fresh  and fantastic views there attract many visitors every year.

It stands over 2,000 meters above  and is very challenging to reach.
