交通规则 traffic rules

Safety is very important to everyone. 

Everywhere we go, no matter how old we are, we must follow safety rules. Though many people might not see the purpose of, say, stopping at a stop sign or driving at the speed limit (限制), rules keep us safe. 

People start to learn about the importance of rules when they are children. Needless to say, there are many rules that teach children right from wrong and how to keep themselves and their friends safe. For example, children learn safety rules when they walk in the hallway at school. Teachers tell them not to run because they may hurt themselves or run into another student. In the lunchroom, children should sit nicely while they eat because they are more likely to choke (哽噎) if they are jumping around. On the playground, they are told to use the equipment (设备) properly. For example, they should not go down the slide (滑梯) backward or climb up the slide when someone is going down because there can be an accident. 

High school students will also learn safety rules but at a different level than younger children. High school students may be taught, for example, safety rules in the science lab. Lab safety is very important because if one thing is done wrong, it can result in a fire or a bad accident. 

Class One was having a meeting. The students were having a  (discuss) in the classroom. What were they talking about? The topic was the best  /ɪnˈvenʃən / in our normal life.

Playground Safety Rules

Playgrounds are great places to have fun. But you need to have fun without getting hurt. . 

Getting ready to play

Wear shoes to keep your feet safe. . Wet equipment can be slippery (滑的) and might lead to a fall. 

Don't play on broken equipment. Tell an adult if any playground equipment is broken. 

Slides (滑梯)

Go down the slide, one person at a time. 

Don't go down the slide until the person in front of you has reached the ground and moved away from the slide. 

Never climb up the front of the slide. . 

Climbing

Climb stairs or steps slowly. Hold onto the handrails (栏杆).

Swinging

Sit down on the swing and slow down before getting off. 

Be careful when you walk in front of a moving swing. You don't want to get hit. 

If something goes wrong

Remembering the above rules will help keep you safe and prevent accidents (防止意外). . If there's a problem or if someone gets hurt in the playground, ask an adult for help soon. 

Every year many people died or were injured in car accidents where drivers were using their mobile phones. However, people continue to use them while driving even though it's dangerous. 

A recent study found that when drivers were talking on their mobile phones, their stopping times were 30 percent slower than when they had drunk too much—and nearly 50 percent slower than when they were driving normally(正常地). It also found that drivers talking on mobile phones were less able to control their cars than drunk drivers. 

And talking isn't even the most serious problem, texting is. An average text message takes 90 seconds to write and send. That means for one and a half minutes a driver is looking at their phone's screen and not at the road. The arrival of new smart phones such as the iPhone will only make matters worse as they will allow users to do more things than ever before. 

Using a mobile phone while driving puts others' lives at risk. No matter how well we drive, if another driver is not being professional or careful，we are put in danger by their actions. Such drivers are selfish, careless and should have their driving licenses (驾照)cancelled. 

There is no need to use them while driving. Just wait until you stop or you will probably get into trouble of your own. 

I think it is safe to say that snakes are not popular among most people. It would be hard to find a person who is neutral (中立的), or simply doesn't care one way or the other. What I wonder is why something even without legs causes such great fear. 

Snakes are quite useful, but that doesn't seem to matter. Snakes help control the population of mice. Without snakes, perhaps we would find mice everywhere. Most of us, however, would rather see a mouse than a snake. 

The poison argument (毒性的争论) is a strong one. Some snakes are poisonous, and this causes people's death. However, the poisonous snakes are only a small number. We can't say all the snakes are bad just because of a few dangerous ones. 

And what do we do with the people who really like snakes? They like snakes even more strongly than we dislike them. These people learn about them, find them out, and watch them carefully. Why? The only reason I can think of is that these people are open­minded. They are able to put aside differences and welcome the snake as a friend. 

Whatever the reason for our like or dislike, snakes do something good in the circle of life. They would prefer to be left alone, and that is what we should do. If you're lucky, you might not run across more than a few of them in a lifetime. That would be fine with most of us.
