 In China, people celebrate the Spring Festival on the first day of the first lunar month (阴历月). It's important for all the Chinese to  time with their family. Children  like this festival because they can wear new clothes and get lucky money from their grandparents, parents, uncles or aunts. We have many interesting things. On the first day of the Chinese New Year, our parents  very early and cook dumplings. They often put coins (硬币) into some dumplings. It's meaningful. If you eat a dumpling with a coin in it, you can have good luck in the coming new year. After breakfast, we do many interesting . We play cards, and visit relatives (亲戚) and friends. We sit around and eat many kinds of  foods. We all have a good time.

One day, Mr Smith takes an apple to the class. He stands in the front of the 1 and says,"Please smell the smell (闻气味) in the air!"

One student puts up his hand and answers, "I can smell it. It is the smell of a(n) 2 ."

Mr Smith asks, "Are you 3 about it?"

"Yes, I am sure about it," the student says.

Mr Smith walks to the students, passes by each of 4 and says, "Please smell again to see if (是否) the smell of the apple is still (仍然) in the air."

Half of the students put up their hands to show that they can smell it. Mr Smith returns (返回) to the front of the classroom 5 asks again if the students can smell the apple. Everyone says 6 except one student called Henry. Mr Smith goes him, asking, "You really can't smell the apple?"

Henry answers, "No, I can't smell it. I don't think it is a real apple."

Mr Smith smiles and says to the class, "He is 7 ! This is not a real apple. 8 doesn't have any smell."

Some of the students may have thought that the apple is not real, but they don't 9 any confidence (自信) to speak up. They just follow (跟随) others and go along with the 10 student. 

Starting a book club is easy—all you want is to love reading. Here's the way to start a book club.

They could be friends, family or those you know through different activities, but they should all love to read. A small group of seven to ten people is usually the perfect size of a book club.

 Pick a date (日期) and keep it. That way, members can easily plan for it. Send out emails a week before the meeting to give people a reminder (提醒). Set the length (长度) of the meeting time. Two hours is usually perfect.

Libraries, parks and restaurants—all make good meeting places. For many clubs, homes are the best place as you don't have to dress up, and noisy (吵闹的) public places can make talking hard.

Think about the books your club will enjoy. Stories? History books? Your club can choose books in different ways. You can take turns to recommend (推荐) books. Let everyone vote (投票) to decide which book to read. Anyway, make sure to keep it interesting.

After all these things, your book club is ready. Now, it's time to hold the first meeting. Enjoy your reading.

This weekend is my 9th birthday. My mom books me a pony-riding (骑小马) party. The party lasts for 2 hours. It is from 8:30 am to 10:30 am, but Mom and I will get there half an hour earlier to set the table. We little kids can take turns to ride the ponies, but only ten kids can ride the ponies. I have so many friends that I have to think hard about whom to invite to the party. At the party, each of us can have a ten-minute ride. After each ride, there's a two-minute break. There are three ponies at the party, Dash, Poppy and Dotti, but only Dash and Poppy are for riding. We can brush Dotti's long white hair and give him some carrots, but we can't ride him. He's getting very old and can't carry us any more.

Mom gets lots of food, fruit and drinks for us. On the day of the party, the kids waiting for their tums can have something to eat and drink. There's a garden in the paddock (马场). Mom says the horse owner (主人) hides some small toys in different places in the garden. We can go to look for them. If we find them, we can take them home. How exciting! I can't wait to have the birthday party!

Some students don't like maths. They think it's difficult. And here is what you can do.

Listen well in class. The maths teacher knows much. When you listen well, you can know much, too. So be a careful (仔细的) student and listen well. And you can ask your maths teacher for help if you don't know in class.

Ask your classmates for help. Your maths teacher isn't always with you. When you find a problem too difficult, you can ask your classmates for help, too. A classmate is a good friend. He or she must be happy to help you.

Practise it every day. Do you want to be good at maths? It takes time. You can't learn it well in a day. So practise it every day, and you can find it easy. Maths is a great subject. Let's learn it well.
