A rich young man worked in a big building in the city. Every day, he rode the elevator with a poor old man who operated it. He was always busy talking on his phone. For years, the young man never said much to the old man—he told which floor he wanted.

These two men shared the small daily, but they never really talked.

One day, the elevator suddenly stopped between. The two men were stuck inside for hours. At first, it was. Then the old man spoke. "For years," he said, "I have listened to you as you ride this elevator. All you ever talk about is money. You remind me a bee." The young man looked confused, but the old man went on. "If you put a bee in a tall drinking glass, it will not fly out it never looks up. It keeps to run away through the sides and dies when freedom is right above it. My advice? Don't be that bee. Look up sometimes and see the sky."

The young man listened to him carefully. For the first time, talked for hours about life, work and happiness. Finally, the elevator was near the end of the day. The old man asked he still wanted to go to the top floor. "No," he replied, "you just showed me a whole new way to see the world—right here in this elevator."

If you've recently moved to a new town, you probably don't know who is living close to your home. People no longer bring food to welcome new neighbors as they did before. However, developing relationships with neighbors can be quite useful, especially if you have kids. It's always nice to have more caring eyes watching out for you and your loved ones.

Bring sweets with you on your first visit.

Take over a plate of cookies or cupcakes when you first visit your neighbors. This will show your new neighbors that you are both friendly and thoughtful.

If your neighbors are in need, let them know you care and ask what you can do to help. You can offer to help them clean their yards, take out their rubbish, or bring them their newspapers.

If you make a promise, go through with it. If you borrow something, return it in good condition, just as it was before. It is the key to developing a lasting relationship.

Be a party animal.

If your neighbors have street parties during the year, attend them. The more people you meet, the more connections you will make.

For two people, a classic rule works well: "I cut, you choose." One cuts the cake into two pieces. The other person picks first. The cutter will try to make it fair, so both feel satisfied. In 1988,she opened a small shop in Suzhou.She worked very hard,and her shop later grew into more than 30 big stores.Qi's works are famous.She made clothes for world leaders at the 2014 APEC meeting and gifts for first ladies at the 2016 G20 Summit.One of her great achievements is a15-meter-long embroidery copy of The Prosperous Suzhou Scroll,a Qing Dynasty (1644 -1911) painting.It took 20 people six and a half years to finish it.She plans to exhibit it in a museum.

Qi thinks Suzhou embroidery is a national intangible heritage."This craftsmanship is unique in the world.Silk used to be called soft gold.We have to let people know its value,"she said.She worries young people don't want to learn this craft.But her son Xu Ting,a university graduate, joined her business.He said,"What we're doing is meaningful.We're spreading Chinese culture."

After Wang Yizhi graduated from Shanxi Agricultural University in 2023,she made a meaningful choice to join the"Go West"program and work as a volunteer teacher in Xinjiang. Through this experience,she not only helped local students but also found the true value of life.
