Do you want to be a volunteer?  You can pick what you really love to do. 

Help kids learn and grow.Be a big brother or a big sister at an after-school care center. 

Give back during the holidays. Serve dinner to the homeless, volunteer at your local welfare house (福利院), or give out toys to kids. Your local church (教堂) and temple may also need your help. 

 Most shelters need volunteers to keep the cats and dogs happy and well exercised. And when you're walking dogs, you get some exercise, too. 

Protect the environment. We can do something simple to protect the earth. For example,  plant a tree in the spring, or join a group to work together to protect your local river. 

Help sick people. Lots of us are close to people who have a medical problem. It can make you feel good to donate your time or money to help the sick people who may feel down sometimes. 

If you have more than one thing you love, find a way to do them all. With your help, we'll certainly have a more beautiful world!

Every year, people celebrate Good Deeds Day on a selected (挑选出来的) Sunday in April. On this day, a great number of people try to make a difference to the world by thinking well, speaking well and doing good. Would you like to join in? The following are some ideas.

Pay it forward. When people wait in line for coffee or ice cream, you can show your kindness by paying the bill (账单) for the stranger behind you. He or she will be thankful to you for doing that. What's more, good deeds can usually lead to (导致) more good deeds.

Help children at Locks of Love. Every year, many children lose their natural hair because of  illnesses. Locks of Love is an organization to help these children by giving them hairpieces (假发). So, if you like, send your hair to the organization.

Help the elderly with chores. A lot of elderly people live by themselves and some of them have difficulty in cleaning, cooking and shopping. Invite your friends or family members to join you if they would like to give a helping hand. As the saying goes, "____. "

Help out at an animal help centre. Visit an animal help centre near your home and find out how you can help. It can be anything from taking the dogs for a walk to cleaning the "homes" for the four-legged animals.

Every one of us should play a part in making the world a better place. If you are available,be sure to take action as soon as possible.

Last month, our school started a voluntary group called "Sunshine Helpers". We wanted to help people in need in our community. There are many ways to show kindness, and our group tries to do small things that can make a big difference.

Some students visit elderly people who live alone. They spend time talking with them, helping clean their houses, and sometimes going for walks together. The elderly people feel less lonely and really appreciate the company. Other students help younger children with their homework after school. They also read stories to them. I joined the group because I believe that even little acts of kindness, like those in the poem "Little Things" by Julia Carney, can make the earth happy.

One day, we went to a local hospital to learn about blood donation. A doctor gave us a talk. She told us that donating blood is a life-giving gift. Many patients in hospital need blood to get better or even survive. She explained the different blood types: A, B, AB, and O. People with type O blood are called universal donors because their blood can be given to anyone in need. People with type AB are universal recipients. I was amazed to learn that one blood donation can help up to three people! World Blood Donor Day is on June 14th, the birthday of Karl Landsteiner, who discovered the blood groups.

After the visit, I decided that when I am older, I will donate blood regularly. I also realized that kindness comes in many forms. Sometimes it's a kind word, like in the poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow: "Kind hearts are the gardens, kind thoughts are the roots; kind words are the flowers, kind deeds are the fruits." We should all try to be kind every day. As Liu Bei said, "An act of kindness, no matter how small, is worth performing."

Now, I feel happy when I help others. Helping others also helps me feel good about myself. I hope more students will join our group and spread kindness. Together, we can make the world a better place.

After class, as Wang Xueru quietly packed up while bearing the pain of a stomachache, a student walked to her. Without a word, the girl handed Wang a cup of warm tea and a note. "If the sky is cloudy, I will be your sunshine," the note read. At that moment, Wang felt her tiredness and  pain went away—replaced by something much warmer: the quiet, mutual (相互的) care between a young volunteer teacher and her student in a classroom in Mengla County, Yunnan Province.

This moment is one of many that picture the daily lives of youth volunteers in the teaching group for countryside education from Central China Normal University under the "Go West" program that began in 2003.Young graduates spend a year teaching in some of China's most under-served western areas.

Wang, a 22-year-old student from Quanzhou, Fujian Province, holds a degree in Chinese language and literature, with a second major in English Education. From the moment she entered university, her dream was clear; she wanted to serve. Her motto (座右铭)—"When poor, educate yourself; when successful, help the world"—guided her road through years of university volunteer work.

From her first year at college, she took an active part in volunteerism, becoming the leader of a university volunteer group and starting projects online to connect children across the country with school classes and cultural activities. By the time she reached her graduation year, Wang set her sights on joining the teaching program in the countryside, which is called Postgraduate (研究生) Education Supporting Team of Chinese Youth Volunteers.

Every year, about 40 to 50 students sign up for the program, but only 21 are finally accepted. Thanks to her growing volunteer experience, Wang was chosen. When asked about her feelings, she said…

Ellie Laks is a girl who showed great worry for injured animals when she was young. At the age of 7, she was bringing home injured animals that she'd found, receiving no 1 from her parents. Though they made her stop, Ellie promised herself that one day she would have a place of her own to 2 the animals she'd saved.

Teamwork in My School Life

From food lovers to learning or travel partners, young people have been looking for new ways to connect with others and have fun together. A popular way to do so is through dazi socializing.

The word "dazi" comes from the Shanghai dialect (方言). People first used it to talk about card-playing friends. Now, it refers to the partners who join in certain activities together. And a dazi is not like a close friend or family member. People usually don't have a long and strong relationship with their dazi.

These years, more people are trying to look for a dazi to enjoy food, go on a trip, or study together. A study of 1,330 young people shows that 70 percent have one or more dazi. Nearly 69 percent believe that finding a dazi is a brave step in moving out of their comfort zone to find a new lifestyle. Xiaomi is one of those people. Xiaomi, born in 1981, is an office worker in Shenzhen. She has looked for travel partners more than once. This March, Xiaomi went to Gansu Province and found a travel partner there. She also found another dazi during the trip. They all had great fun during the journey. "We later started a chat group on WeChat, and we often share good books and life experiences in it. Starting as travel partners, we have become friends. I think I'm lucky," Xiaomi said.

Finding a dazi is not always good, and it can be dangerous sometimes. Remember to be careful and pay attention to your personal safety when you look for a dazi.

On 24 May 1960, four climbers got close to the top of Mount Qomolangma. They faced the tough Second Step, a  rock wall. Liu Lianman tried to lead the way four times but failed because of the air and snow. He chose to be a "human " and helped Qu Yinhua stand on his shoulders. Then he  the same for Gong Bu. After that, he and Wang Fuzhou used a  to climb up.

I walked into the gym for my basketball class. This was my  (three) time to have the class.

Good communication is important for building strong relationships with others.  We will talk about the importance of communication here and provide some advice on improving communication skills.

 It plays a main role in understanding each other. When people communicate properly, they are able to share their thoughts and feelings in a clear and friendly way. This can make people live and work more easily.

Secondly, to improve communication skills, it is important to start by listening to others actively. Instead of simply waiting for our turn to talk, we should listen to other people's opinions. 

Thirdly, we should communicate in a way that is truthful and proper.  Also, we should notice our body language because it can send information that may be different from our words.  Instead of arguing or refusing others, we should try to find common interests and ideas. This needs communication and understanding.

Remember, good communication is both about what we say and how we say it.

Once there was a manager (经理) who had a team of around 40 hard-working members. Everything seemed great. But one thing worried him: the group had a hard time communicating (交流) and sharing information with each other.

Then one day, the manager had an idea. He decided to take his group to play games together, and he prepared 3 rounds (轮次) of games carefully.

During the first round, the manager told everyone to blow a balloon and write their names without breaking it. And soon the team members did it successfully.

After that, the manager told them to wait outside for the next round. When they went into the room again, they saw many more balloons without names around the room.

The manager told them to look for the balloon with his or her name on it. The first to bring him the balloon would win, while those who broke the balloon would be out of the game.

15 minutes passed and no one was able to find his balloon, and then the manager decided to go on to the third round. For the third round, the manager told his group to pick any balloon from the room and give it to the person whose name was on it.

Within just a few minutes, everyone had his balloon with his own name. The manager was very happy and discussed with his group about the reason why they didn't find their balloons in the second round. That was because everyone paid too much attention (注意力) to his own target (目标). However, in just a short time, they could make it in the third round because of the power of teamwork and sharing with each other.

If you watch butterflies in the garden, you will find that they busily work and fly from flower to flower. They work for necessary food. And they improve the lives of flowers. A social butterfly is someone who is comfortable and active in different situations, so social butterflies make friends easily.

Social butterflies seem to be outgoing and comfortable in any social situation. Social butterflies enjoy meeting new people at different events. Most parties need some outgoing people. Social butterflies are suitable for parties. She or he can start conversations, and communicate with other guests. Social butterflies can also make the party more interesting and lively. Some introverted(内向的) guests need a little encouragement. Social butterflies can help them start to talk with others. It will be more difficult for hosts to hold a party without social butterflies.

A social butterfly looks for different social parties. Some people seem to be outgoing, but some are introverted. Now, there are different kinds of personality tests. They can tell you whether you are outgoing or not.

In fact, if you take part in social parties, you may know if you are outgoing. Do you like to talk with different guests at the party? If the answer is yes, you are probably a social butterfly.
