What's Anti-Bullying Day (反霸凌日)?

Anti-Bullying Day is a special day when people talk about bullying and what we can do to stop it. A lot of children take part in activities at school and online, to learn about what bullying means and what we can do if we see it happening.

When is Anti-Bullying Day?

The date of Anti-Bullying Day is different in different countries. In many places, it's on 4 May (United Nations Anti-Bullying Day). In the UK, Anti-Bullying Week takes place every November. Every day of the year, it's important to stand up against bullying.

What exactly is bullying?

Often bullying happens when one person has more power than the other person—perhaps they're bigger or older, or they have more friends. When someone uses their power to hurt another person on purpose, especially more than once, that's bullying.

Bullying can be with words (saying mean things) or it can be physical (hitting, pushing or taking someone's things). Leaving someone out of a group or ignoring (忽视) them again and again is also bullying.

How can we stand up against bullying?

If someone is bullying you, you could ignore them, tell them to stop or walk away. Pretend that you don't care and try to look confident, even if you don't feel it. Tell a friend or a classmate what's happening and ask them to help you; or talk to your parents, a teacher or another adult you trust.

If you see someone else being bullied, never join in with the bullying or laugh at it. That will make it worse. Instead, be an "upstander"—help and support the person who is being bullied. Tell a trusted adult about the bullying. If we all stand up against bullying, we can make it stop.

Chinese children under 18 will now face strict limitations on their online gaming time, with an average of just three hours per week allowed under new regulations. Specifically, they can only play between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays. This move aims to protect the mental and physical well-being of young Chinese, as video game addiction has become a pressing issue. Gaming companies have to make sure real-name registration (注册) is carried out and get checked more often by the government.

Li Bai was born in 701. He was also given the name "Taibai". The name meant "Venus" in ancient China. Legend says that before Li Bai was born, his mother dreamed that Venus fell into her arms. Some people believed that Li bai was a god. When Li Bai was five years old, his family settled in a town in today's Sichuan province.

●Making Iron into a Needle

There is a legend about Li Bai. He was not a very hard-working student when he was young. He often skipped school.

One day when he was walking by the river, he saw an old woman. She was working on a large piece of iron.

He asked. "What are you doing?"

She said, "I'm making a needle." "But how can you make a large piece of iron in to a needle?" She replied, "I must work hard every day."

Li Bai suddenly understood the importance of hard work, and he started to work hard at school.

●Friendship with Meng Haoran

When Li Bai traveled to Xian Yang in Hubei, he went to visit a famous poet called Meng Haoran. He was twelve years older than Li Bai, but they became friends. That's because they both loved traveling to beautiful mountains and rivers. When Meng Haoran left for today's Yangzhou, Li Bai wrote a poem about it, seeing Meng Haoran off a I yellow CraneTower.

Li Shizhen was a famous medical scientist in the Ming Dynasty and he is known "the sage (圣人) of medicine" in Chinese history. One of his  (great) achievements is the famous book  (call) Bencao Gangmu. The book has influenced medicine greatly across the world so far.

Born in a family of doctors, Li Shizhen was (deep) interested in herbs (草药) and began to read medical books from young age. He discovered many mistakes in those books.  he worried these mistakes would cause serious illnesses or even death, Li Shizhen decided to write a new book. He spent many years  (travel) everywhere to look for herbs and repeating his tests. He even tested herbs on  (he) and his relatives. Li Shizhen collected and recorded over 1890 herbs. He also looked up facts in 900 medical books to get more about herbs. He worked day and night to make sure all the information was correct. After 27 years and three revisions (修改), the book was  (complete) finally. It then got tons of attention not only in China, but also in many other countries around the world.

Bencao Gangmu is not only a milestone (里程碑) in the history of  (tradition) Chinese medicine, but also a valuable treasure of the world medicine. What we should learn more from Li Shizhen is his attitude (态度) to knowledge and his spirit of scientific research.

The word "zhiyin", which refers to the best friend in Chinese, comes from the story of Yu Boya and Zhong Ziqi in the Warring States Period.

Boya was a master of guqin which is a Chinese  instrument. Although many people praised his works, he believed that he had never come across anyone who could really understand his music. One day, he  to Chu on a mission (使命) because of a strong wind, he was forced to stop at the entrance of the Hanyang River. When the wind passed, a full moon appeared, making its slow way through the clouds. He couldn't help playing his gugin. A woodcutter named Ziqi happened  by and was attracted by the melody. As soon as Boya finished the piece, he heard the woodcutter applauding and cheering. Then Boya invited him on board and played tunes (曲)  described high mountains and flowing water. To  surprise, Ziqi could understand  what he wanted to express through his music. Boya was overjoyed and they became good friends. Since Boya had to return to his state, they promised to meet again in the following year.

, when getting back to visit Ziqi the next year, Boya heard that his friend had died from a disease. Boya was very sad and he played the music in front of Ziqi's tomb (墓). The feeling of the music was so strong that it was as if the rivers and the were crying. When finishing playing, Boya  his guqin into pieces, vowing (发誓) never to play guqin again for the rest of his life.

The story is not only just about music of friends and friendship but also about understanding and appreciation. In today's society, we need to listen and understand the voices and emotions of others. Only in this way can we  understand and communicate with each other to create a more beautiful social environment.

Yue Fei is one of China's famous heroes. When Northern Song was invaded (入侵), Yue had to make a difficult choice: he wanted to protect his country, but he also wanted to take care of his mother.

To encourage him, his mother wrote four Chinese characters (汉字) on his back: jing zhong bao guo. Then Yue Fei went off to war.

In 1127, the Jin Dynasty (朝代) invaded Kaifeng, the capital of Northern Song. The Southern Song Dynasty was founded then. And Yue Fei led his army to fight against Jin's soldiers.

There were many soldiers following Yue Fei. If these mates fell ill, Yue would bring medicine to them in time. If they died in war, Yue would help their families. When receiving awards (奖赏) from the emperor (皇帝), Yue always shared those awards with them.

However, a group of officials headed by Qin Hui told the emperor that Yue Fei might become too powerful and do something bad to the country. So Yue Fei had to return to the capital and all his rights were taken away. One year later, he was put to death when he was 39 years old.

Yang Zhen was an honest and clean (廉洁的) government officer during the Eastern Han Dynasty (25—220) (东汉). 

One day, Yang met his old workmate Wang Mi on a trip. They had fun talking about their life experiences and good wishes to the nation. In the past, Wang's ability and political ideas were refused by the people around him. But Yang saw Wang's talent and promoted him. The chance helped Wang to be successful. Wang never forgot Yang's help and invited him to stay over for the night.

It was near midnight when Wang knocked on the door of Yang's bedroom. He handed Yang a bag and said, "This is to thank you for teaching me and helping me become who I am today." Yang looked in the bag. It was full of gold. "Do I look like a person who accepts bribes (贿赂) from others? I thought you knew me well!" Yang said angrily.

"It's late at night. No one will know if we keep it secret," said Wang. "What do you mean no one will know? Heaven (天) knows, Earth knows, you know and I know," said Yang. "You can cheat anyone but not your own heart." The door was closed and Wang left the room in shame.

Li Shizhen was one of the most famous doctors in Chinese history. He was born in Qichun, Hubei in 1518.

Both of Li Shizhen's father and grandfather were doctors. Li Shizhen's grandfather was a country doctor who travelled in the countryside with a bag of herbs (药草) and medications and cured (治愈) people. His father was a doctor who wrote several books.

Li Shizhen used to help his father in his medical practice when he was young. Li Shizhen's father wanted him to enter politics (从政). Li Shizhen studied for the exams and passed the country-level examination, but he was never able to pass the imperial (皇帝的) examination.

When he was 38, he cured the son of the Prince of Chu and was invited to be an official in that court (宫廷). A few years later, he became an official at the Imperial Medical Institute.

Even though he fulfilled his father's dream, he didn't want to continue working for the court. One year later, he left the court and returned to be a doctor again.

Li Shizhen was famous for his book, Compendium of Materia Medica (《本草纲目》). He spent 27 years writing the book. Unluckily, Li Shizhen died before the book was officially published. It is such a successful book. Now it is still one of the most important medical books in China.

After the Civil War, more factories appeared in the United States. More factories meant that more people were needed to work in them. These people came from all over the country and all over the world. At the time, there were no laws to stop children from working in a factory, so many of the workers were small children.

Many children left school and went to work when they were only twelve or thirteen years old. If a family member was hurt, the son or daughter had to go to work at an even younger age. Children as young as eight worked in factories. By the end of the 1800s, twenty percent of children from ten to sixteen were working.

All the children had a hard life. Because of their age, factory owners paid them less money. Children could not do the work of men, so factory owners thought it was deserved to pay them less. Also, paying them less meant the factory owner made more money.

Working for too long hours was another big problem. Most children worked for twelve to fourteen hours a day. There was no time for them to go to school and it was bad for their health. Without an education, the children had no hope of learning skills to get a better job.

Today Americans and the people all over the world feel that child labor is wrong. So most countries have made laws to stop it and care for the children well.

Everyone considers a sport for young people not for everybody because it needs stamina and strength. But a group of old players in Chongqing are showing that it may never be too 1 to play.
