I'm Lily, a Grade 9 student. My spare time has changed a lot since I entered junior high school.

In primary school, I used to spend most of my free time watching cartoons or playing with my toys after school. I didn't have any hobbies, and I rarely went out with friends. My life was simple but a bit boring.

Now, things are different. I have joined the school art club and I spend two hours every day painting. Painting makes me feel relaxed and I've made many friends who share the same hobby. Also, I volunteer at a local library every Saturday. I help organize books and read stories to little kids. This not only makes me happy but also teaches me to be more responsible.

I still spend some time with my family on weekends. We often go hiking or have a picnic in the park. I feel that my life is now more colorful and meaningful than before. The most important thing is that I've learned to find joy in every small moment.

A recent survey asked 1,000 teenagers in China about their sources of joy. Here are the results.

45% of the teenagers say that spending time with family brings them the most joy. They enjoy having meals together, watching movies or traveling with their parents and siblings.

30% of the teenagers find joy in their hobbies. This includes playing sports, drawing, playing musical instruments and reading books.

15% of the teenagers say that achieving good grades makes them happy. They feel proud when they get good scores in exams or finish a difficult project.

10% of the teenagers find joy in helping others. They volunteer at community centers, help classmates with homework or take care of elderly people.

The survey shows that most teenagers find joy in simple, everyday things. It also tells us that family and hobbies are the most important sources of happiness for them.

Time Management for Teenagers

As a teenager, it's important to manage your time well between study and leisure. Here are some tips to help you.

First, make a weekly schedule. Write down your study tasks, homework and leisure activities. This will help you see how much time you have for each thing.

Second, avoid wasting time on unimportant things. For example, don't spend hours scrolling through social media when you have homework to do.

Third, take short breaks when studying. It's better to study for 45 minutes and then take a 10-minute break than to study for hours without stopping.

Fourth, learn to say "no" to activities that will take too much time. If you have a lot of homework, don't agree to go to a party that lasts all night.

Finally, remember to make time for things you enjoy. Leisure activities help you relax and stay healthy, so don't forget to include them in your schedule.

Different students have different ways to spend their leisure time. Let's look at three students' stories.

Alice, 15, spends most of her free time volunteering at an animal shelter. She helps take care of homeless dogs and cats, feeds them and cleans their cages. "Volunteering makes me feel good. I learn to be responsible and love animals more," she says.

Bob, 16, is a big fan of photography. He takes his camera everywhere and takes photos of nature, people and interesting things. He has even won several photography competitions. "Photography lets me see the beauty in everyday life. It's like capturing moments that will last forever," Bob explains.

Cindy, 14, loves playing the violin. She practices for two hours every day after school. She often joins school concerts and has performed in front of hundreds of people. "Playing the violin makes me relaxed. When I play, I forget all my worries," Cindy says.

Tom used to be a quiet boy who spent almost all his free time playing computer games. He felt1 and lonely because he had few friends at school. His grades dropped quickly, and his parents were worried about him.

One day, his PE teacher noticed Tom's sadness and talked to him. "Why don't you try 2 with us after school? Running can make you feel better and help you make new friends," the teacher suggested. At first, Tom was 3 , but he agreed to give it a try.

To his surprise, he found running was not as boring as he thought. He started to join the school running team. Every day after school, he practiced running with his teammates. He felt 4 after each run, and he began to talk more with his teammates. Slowly, he made many friends and his grades 5 improved.

Now, running has become Tom's favorite hobby. He says, "Running not only makes me 6 but also teaches me to keep trying when things are hard. I used to think life was 7 , but now I know there's so much joy around me."

Last month, Tom took part in a city running competition and won the third prize. He was so 8 that he couldn't wait to share the good news with his parents and teachers. His parents were proud of him and said, "We're glad you've found something that makes you 9 ."
