My Family's Summer Tradition

Every summer, my family and I go to my grandparents' house in the countryside. This tradition started when my dad was a kid, and now it's my favorite time of the year.

When we arrive, my grandma always has a big meal ready for us. We eat fresh vegetables from her garden and homemade chicken soup. After lunch, we help my grandpa with the farm work. We pick apples from the trees, feed the chickens and water the plants. I love doing these things because it makes me feel close to nature.

In the evening, we sit outside under the stars. My grandpa tells us stories about his childhood. He talks about how he walked miles to school and how he helped his parents on the farm. These stories make me appreciate my life more.

Last summer, we planted a small tree in the garden. Grandpa said it would grow with me, and we would watch it get bigger every year. This tradition is not just about going to the countryside; it's about spending time with my family and learning about our past.

Keeping the Family Craft Alive

Lina's family has been making paper lanterns for over 100 years. Her great-grandfather started the craft when he was a young man in a small village in China. Now Lina is the fourth generation to carry on the tradition.

When Lina was a child, she watched her grandpa make lanterns every day. He taught her how to cut the paper, fold it and add colorful paintings. At first, Lina thought it was boring. She wanted to play with her friends instead of sitting in the workshop. But as she grew older, she began to understand the importance of the tradition.

"Each lantern tells a story," her grandpa told her. "Our ancestors made lanterns to celebrate festivals and bring light to their homes. Now we make them to keep our family's history alive."

Today, Lina runs the family workshop with her brother. They sell lanterns to local shops and also teach classes to kids who want to learn the craft. "I want to make sure this tradition doesn't die," Lina said. "It's part of who we are."

Our Family's Sunday Baking Tradition

Every Sunday morning, my family gets up early to bake cookies together. This tradition started when I was seven years old. My mom wanted to create a special time for us to bond.

We start by gathering all the ingredients: flour, sugar, butter, eggs and chocolate chips. My dad usually mixes the dough, while my sister and I roll it into small balls. My grandma likes to add extra chocolate chips because she knows they are my favorite. After baking, we sit around the table and eat the warm cookies with milk. We talk about our week and share funny stories.

Last Sunday, my cousin joined us. She had never baked before, so we taught her how to make the dough. She was so excited when she saw her cookies come out of the oven. Now she asks to join us every week.

This tradition makes me feel happy and loved. It's not just about baking cookies; it's about spending time with the people I care about.

Family Traditions Around the World

Every family has its own traditions that are passed down from generation to generation. These traditions help families stay connected and share their values.

In China, the Spring Festival is the most important family tradition. Families gather together to have a big dinner on New Year's Eve. They also clean their houses to sweep away bad luck and put up red decorations for good fortune. Children receive red envelopes filled with money from elders.

In the United States, Thanksgiving is a beloved tradition. Every year on the fourth Thursday of November, families gather to eat turkey, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie. They take turns sharing what they are thankful for. This tradition started in the 17th century when European settlers thanked Native Americans for their help.

In Japan, Oshogatsu (New Year) is a time for family reunions. People clean their homes and decorate with kadomatsu (bamboo arrangements). They visit temples to pray for a happy new year. Families also make mochi (rice cakes) together, which symbolizes good luck and strength.

Every year before the Spring Festival, my grandma would start making dumplings with us. It was our family's most loved 1 . I still remember how she 2 me to fold the dumpling wrappers when I was five. "Make sure the filling doesn't come out," she said, showing me her 3 hands that had made thousands of dumplings.
