  • 2、Self-care means taking the time to do things that help you live well and improve both your physical health and mental (心理的) health. This can help you manage stress, lower your risk of illness, and increase your energy.

    Prioritize (优先考虑) your physical health.

Taking care of your body is important for overall well-being. Daily exercise — even just 30 minutes of walking — can help you stay happy and healthy. Along with exercise, make sure you're getting enough sleep. A balanced diet and plenty of water can also improve your energy and focus throughout the day.

    Support your mental well-being.

Self-care isn't just about physical health, mental well-being also needs to be supported. Spare some time for healthy activities you enjoy, such as reading and spending time in nature. Then focus on positivity. Recognize and challenge your negative and unhelpful thoughts. Write them down or replay them in your mind.

Manage your life and stay connected.

This way, you can focus on the task that matters first. Learn to say "no" to new tasks if you start to feel like you're taking on too much. Be happy for what you finish each day. And try to reach out to friends or family members who can provide you with support and help.

    A. You may start with trying a relaxing activity.

    B. Remind yourself of the good things around you.

    C. Developing a personal exercise plan is also a good way.

    D. Even small acts of self-care in your daily life can have a big impact.

    E. For example, you can reduce phone or computer time before bedtime.

    F. Manage your tasks by deciding what must get done now and what can wait.

Chu Wenwen, a young wildlife protector, introduced how young people in China have made a difference for endangered Mengxin beavers (蒙新河狸).

Since she was 2, Chu has been interested in wildlife because her father was a wildlife researcher. With no other children around, beavers and other wild animals became her "best friends". At 7, Chu got her first camera and began to take pictures of animals. In 2015, she founded a nature photography studio and has taken more than 75,000 videos and photos of wildlife. The next year, she joined a nature protecting organization focusing on beavers.

Mengxin beavers can improve the environment by building dams (水坝) that provide new living environments for small animals. Therefore, these beaver dams help increase biodiversity (生物多样性).

In 2017, Chu graduated from a university in Beijing. Unlike most of her classmates who chose to stay, she went back to her hometown out of love for nature. Seeing beavers die of food shortage, she launched the beaver canteen (食堂) program in 2018, which attracted over one million people to donate snack money to provide food for beavers. Since then, she has been called "princess beaver" by her followers. Thanks to these young people's efforts, the number of beavers has increased greatly over the past four years.

Also in 2018, Chu's nature protecting organization got official recognition of the local government. With its help, she started "Beaver Guardian" project which trained local people to save animals from being killed. "I am lucky to live in such a great time when young people can achieve their dreams while the country strongly supports nature protection," she said.

(1)、Why did Chu make friends with beavers in her childhood?

  • 4、Do you ever get that feeling that there aren't enough hours in the day? That time is somehow racing away from you. But then, you step outside into the countryside and suddenly everything seems more relaxed, like time has somehow changed.

For many of us, the total requirements of work, home and family mean that we are always feeling like we don't have enough time. Digital technologies make us stay connected all the time, which also extends (延长) our working hours and makes it difficult to switch off from the needs of friends and family.

Richard O. Correia, at the University of Turku in Finland, examined a piece of research. The research compared people's experiences of time when they performed different types of tasks in city and natural environments. It showed that people felt time wasexpanded when they were in nature. For example, a walk in the countryside feels longer than the same walk in the city.

It's not just our sense of time in the moment which appears to be changed by the natural world—it also helps us think about the future. Spending time outdoors makes us feel better at setting long-term goals. We stop focusing only on daily stress and start seeing the bigger picture.

If spending time in nature isn't possible for you, there are other ways that you can control your time. Try keeping a time diary to see where your hours go. Also, set some rules for using time—like booking in time in your calendar to take a break. Taking control of your time can help you stop feeling that it's running away from you.

(1)、Why do people often feel they don't have enough time according to the passage?
A、Because they always spend too much time walking in the countryside. B、Because digital technologies make them work longer and be connected. C、Because they don't know how to plan their daily tasks in a proper way. D、Because they aren't good at using tools to help them work more quickly.
(2)、What does the underlined word "expanded" in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
    A、Important. B、Wasted. C、Longer. D、Valuable.
(3)、How did Correia carry out the research?
A、By asking people to test their walking speed both in city and nature. B、By interviewing people about their daily use of digital technologies. C、By examining how fast people complete tasks in natural environment. D、By comparing time feelings of doing tasks in city and natural settings.
    (4)、What did the research find?
A、Walking in the city is more beneficial for setting goals. B、People feel more stressed when walking in the countryside. C、People in city areas never focus on the bigger picture of their lives. D、Being in nature makes time feel longer and helps with long-term goals.
(5)、According to the passage, if Lily has no time to be in nature, what can she do to control her time?
A、Stay connected with friends online all the time. B、Keep a time diary and set rules for using time. C、Move to the countryside immediately. D、Start to think more about future plans.

If you are interested in sports, it is natural that you would want to be good at them. You need the right way of thinking and other qualities. Here is some advice to help you out.

Set a proper goal for yourself. Give yourself a reasonable amount of time to achieve that goal, and break it down into smaller parts if the goal is especially big. For example, you could practise just one skill at a time.

Do proper warm-ups. A good warm-up is important for any physical activity. It can be very light, but a proper warm-up will help prevent injury. Aim to warm up for about half an hour before the game.

Develop patience in practice. No matter what you do, skills are often slow to build. If you're not patient, you will try to learn more skills long before you're ready. Keep the long-term goal in mind, and stick with it until you make it a reality.

If you focus too much on being good at something, you may forget why you want to be good in the first place. Not taking the time to enjoy the sport you play can easily make you tired. When you exercise, try to remember the other reasons why you play sports such as the natural pleasure you get from exercise.

    A. Let yourself have fun.

    B. Stay focused on the game.

    C. This will prepare your body for the activity.

    D. Focus on these small ones instead of the big picture.

    E. However, being a good sports player requires more than skills.

    F. You may give up when you don't see improvement immediately.

  • 10、Shenzhen's Yantian District is at the front of China's low-altitude economy(低空经济)change. This new place uses cool technology like drones(无人机), air taxis, and smart delivery systems that work below 1,000 meters. Yantian is a role model of using these new ideas in city life.

One key project is the "Sky Drone Corridor," which uses self-flying drones to deliver medical things and food. They make delivery time 60% shorter than before. For example, a 10-km delivery that took 40 minutes in the past now only takes 15 minutes. These drones have good guiding tools, so they can get to the right places quickly.

To keep the airspace safe, Yantian developed the "Smart Sky Platform". It uses AI to watch low-altitude flights all the time, preventing dangerous situations. Since it started, the number of flight accidents has dropped by 80%.

However, there are still problems. Drones make too much noise and the rules for using the airspace are still getting better. Yantian is testing noise-reducing drone designs and working with the government to make clear flight rules.

Recently, Nima Rinji Sherpa from Nepal completed his goal by climbing the 8,027-metre Mount Shishapangma in China's Xizang Autonomous Region. The 18-year-old teenager has become the youngest climber to reach the top of the world's 14 highest mountains. The 14 mountains Nima climbed, known as the "8,000ers", are each at least 8,000 metres tall. Climbing all 14 is such a difficult and dangerous challenge that only a few people have managed to complete it.

Nima is a Sherpa. Sherpas are a group of people from Nepal known for their climbing skills. They guide climbers from other countries, carry heavy objects and set up safety equipment (安全设备). While foreign climbers often receive most of the attention for their achievements, Sherpas do much of the hard work in the same dangerous conditions. Nima hopes to bring some of that attention back to Sherpas.

Although Nima comes from a family of climbers, he didn't start climbing seriously until he was 16. He climbed his first 8,000er, Mount Manaslu, in 2022. Nima climbed Mount Qomolangma, the world's tallest mountain, earlier this year.

Nima planned to climb Mount Shishapangma last year, but an avalanche (雪崩) at the time killed four people, including his friend and teacher. He stopped his climb and focused instead on helping other climbers. "Climbing is a hard sport. It's about who can suffer the most when times are the worst," he said. This year, Nima returned to Mount Shishapangma, ready to complete his challenge. He said he was thinking of his friend as he reached the top of the mountain.

Nima says he hopes his successes will make people more aware of how important Sherpas are to climbing. Yet, he aims to be more than a guide, saying, "I want to be one of the best climbers in mountaineering."

(1)、What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?
A、Nima is famous for climbing the highest mountains. B、Sherpas are skilled climbers but get little attention. C、Foreign climbers are more skilled than Sherpas. D、Climbers are often in the face of dangerous conditions.
(2)、Which mountain did Nima climb first among the "8,000ers"?
    A、Mount Shishapangma. B、Mount Manaslu. C、Mount Qomolangma. D、Mount Everest.
(3)、Why did Nima stop his climb last year?
A、He wanted to train other climbers. B、He needed to set up equipment. C、He ran out of food and water. D、He met a deadly avalanche.
(4)、What is Nima's aim in mountaineering?
A、To become a full-time mountain guide. B、To bring people's attention back to Sherpas. C、To be one of the best climbers in the field. D、To help more climbers from other countries.

Each spring brings a new blossom of wildflowers along the highway I travel daily to work.

There is one particular blue flower that has always caught my eye. I've noticed that it blooms (盛开) only in the morning hours because the afternoon sun is too warm for it. Every day for about two weeks, I see those beautiful flowers.

Sometime in March this year, I started a wildflower garden in our yard. I can look out of the kitchen window while doing the dishes and see the flowers. I've often thought that those lovely blue flowers from the road would look great with other wildflowers in our yard. Every day I drove past the flowers thinking, "I'm getting late. I'll stop on my way home and dig them."" Gee, I don't want to get my good clothes dirty." Whatever the reason, I never stopped to dig them. My husband even gave me a folding shovel (铲子) for that.

One day on my way home from work, I was sad to see that the pretty blue flowers were gone. I thought to myself, "Way to go, you waited too long! You should have done it right away when you saw them blooming this sprung!"

A week ago, we were shocked to learn that my oldest sister has a brain tumor (肿瘤). Before that, we had always thought that there would be plenty of time for each other. I couldn't help but see the connection between the pretty blue flowers and the relationship between my sister and us. I do believe that God has given us some time left to plant some wonderful memories that will bloom every year for us.

And yes, if I see the blue flowers again, you can bet I'll stop and take them to my wildflower garden.

(1)、When did the writer start her wildflower garden?
    A、Last winter. B、This spring. C、Last summer. D、This autumn.
(2)、Why did the writer fail to dig up the blue flowers earlier?
A、She didn't have a proper tool. B、The flowers were protected by law. C、She found excuses for herself. D、Her husband asked her not to do it.
(3)、Why did the writer connect the blue flowers with her sister's situation?
A、Both require special medical care. B、Both are common things for her in her daily life. C、Both are influenced by the weather. D、Both teach her to act quickly on important things.
(4)、What does the writer mean by saying the underlined sentence in Paragraph 5?
A、Planting flowers can help her sister feel healthier. B、God will help her sister get better from the illness. C、There's not enough time to do things with her sister. D、They should use their time to create lasting memories.

Located in Africa, the Sahara Desert spreads across 30 per cent of the land. This huge desert, also known as "the Great Desert" in Arabic, is about 9 million square kilometers in size. It is also at least 4.6 million years old. This means that it is one of the oldest places in the world.

All deserts are dry, and the Sahara is both dry and hot. It is the largest hot desert in the world. We may think that all deserts are hot, but in fact some deserts are very cold! Many scientists believe that Antarctica, for example, is a type of cold desert.

Most of the Sahara is rocky ground. But there are also places with grass, lakes, mountains, and even sand seas. A sand sea is just what it sounds like—it looks like a sea of sand! When the wind blows, the sand looks like waves.

Life in the Sahara is difficult. About two million people live in the Sahara. They usually move from place to place. There is water in a few parts of the Sahara, and some people live in these places all year round.

Not many animals can live in a place with such a dry and hot climate. They must get used to living in the desert. Camels, for example, go for a long time without drinking water. When they do find water, they can drink more than 100 liters (公升) of it in a very short time. Fennec foxes live in the desert too. They have large ears to help their bodies stay cool.

Today, the world's largest hot desert is getting even bigger. It is now about 10 per cent larger than what it was about a century ago. But why is it growing? Some scientists believe that part of the reason is climate change. As temperatures rise, summers in Africa grow hotter and less rain falls. Water bodies get smaller and the ground gets drier and drier. If we do not take immediate action, the desert will keep growing!

(1)、What information does the writer introduce in Paragraph 1?
A、Life, location and size. B、History, climate and size. C、Size, climate and geography. D、Size, history and location.
(2)、What does "sand seas" in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A、Seas with sand under the water. B、Large areas of sand that look like the sea. C、Lakes and mountains in the desert. D、Rocky ground covered with seawater.
(3)、How do camels get used to living in the Sahara?
A、They have large ears to stay cool. B、They live in places with grass and lakes. C、They can live without water for a long time. D、They drink more than 100 litres of water every day.
(4)、What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A、Climate change is the only reason for the Sahara's growth. B、The Sahara Desert will stop growing if the temperature drops. C、Human activities have no influence on the growth of the Sahara. D、If we do nothing, the Sahara will become even larger in the future.
