Teachers help us to be good students.  And some teachers play with students. When we need help, we can ask the teacher for it. So we should thank them.  On that day, we say thanks to our teachers.

But how do students in the US thank their teachers?

 Teachers' Day is on Tuesday of that week. Schools have parties with gifts and food that week. Students in the US like to give small gifts to their teachers.  Some students love to give some fruit (水果) to their teachers.

Do we say thanks to our teachers only on Teachers' Day? No.  Do you think so?

Today is a big day for Tom. It's his first day at school. In the morning, he has breakfast at 7:00. For breakfast, he has an egg and some milk. After 20 minutes, he goes to school.

After Tom gets to his classroom, he sees many boys and girls. But Tom doesn't know any one of them. He wants to make friends with them.

The students have their first class at 8:00. They draw (画) some pictures in the class. Tom draws a picture of his mother. Tom can draw very well. So his art teacher, Mrs. Wilson, praises (表扬) him. Tom is very happy.

At 12:00, the students have lunch. A girl is next to Tom. Tom gives (给) a banana to the girl and she gives Tom some bread. "I'm Kitty. Do you want to be my friend?" the girl asks Tom. "Sure! I'm very happy to be your friend," Tom says.

My name is Li Ming. My school is very clean and beautiful. It's next to a beautiful park.

Our school has a large sports field. We do morning exercises here every day. Our classroom building is large and clean with five floors. My classroom is on the first floor. For this term, we have Chinese, English, maths, science, art and P.E. Next to the classroom building is the science building. The science building has three floors. It is my favorite place because I love science best. The library is across from the science building and there are different kinds of books in it. I often read books there with Xiao Hua, my good friend. Is there an art building in my school? Yes, there is. And there are five music rooms and three art rooms in the art building. We can sing, dance, and play the piano (钢琴) here.

All the teachers are strict but very kind. We are very happy to study here. I really like my school.

Hi, boys and girls! I'm a student of Guangming Middle School in Jingzhou. The school has a history of 15 years. Now there are about 1,000 teachers and students in my school. I think my school is really cool.

Do you know why I think so? Well, in my school, we have lessons with teachers and also have farm work to do. Our teachers are happy to teach (教) us how to do farm work and we are happy to learn it. We all think it's useful and fun. We grow vegetables and fruit in our free time. We can learn much and we can also eat the vegetables and fruit when they are ripe. They are healthy (健康的). And you know what? There is a small zoo in our school. You can see chickens and other animals in it.

Going Green

We hear a lot about how we should change our lives to help save our planet. Jim Barnes, 15, from Oxford, is talking about what his family did last year to save  planet. 

Jim Barnes:

According to a study, a common family makes more than one ton of rubbish a year. Some of the waste takes hundreds of  (year) to decay (腐烂). 

So, to help save the planet, our family decided  (change) our life habits last year. We recycled (再利用) everything. For example, we collected used things, such as paper and bottles and reused them. We also grew  (we) own vegetables. 

The study shows that, in a year, a family like ours uses too much electricity (电) for things like watching TV and taking showers. So there is a lot of  (pollute) every year. This pollution can cause health problems and global warming. 

Because  all this, we decided to do something to save electricity last year. We watched less TV and used low-energy light bulbs. We also  (stop) using the air conditioners. 

What's more, we tried to use our car less to cut down on air pollution. My parents took the subway three times a week  I rode my bicycle to school last year. 

It is so important to protect our Earth. In my mind, if everyone  (do) something to protect the Earth, our planet  (become) more and more beautiful.
