It was summer holiday. The weather was really hot, so my brother and I(plan) to go to our cabin(小木屋) for a few days. Neither of our (parent) was free, so they didn't come. Instead, we asked some of our friends to go  us. It was a (sun) morning when we started our trip to the cabin. when we were near there, some dark clouds came from the northwest and it became windy. Then a storm began, and what made things even worse was that (we) car broke down on the road! It was raining (heavy), but we still ran quickly. We all got wet, and our phones did not work either. The cabin lost power(电). The wind and rain sounded terrible. After dinner, we had nothing (do)but sit around a candle. Then my brother got  idea. "It's so(bored), " he said. "Why don't we tell some jokes?" So we began telling funny things and we laughed a lot. Although the weather was terrible, we felt warm and comfortable. 

The whole school was talking about the winter camp. And everyone was looking forward to it except me because I would miss my parents. But it was the way we (成长) up. 

When we reached the camp, we found the village was so(极好的;了不起的). It really took my (呼吸的空气) away. What a (惊喜)! It was a village in the (北方) of China. It was famous for its snowy weather. Every year, millions of people spend their (假期) here. It was very cold in winter. Thick ice (遮盖) the lake. Our coach told us that we could skate on the lake, but we must be careful. We were all excited although it was a little dangerous. We laughed and shouted loudly all the way. Suddenly, Ihit someone in front of me and we both(跌倒)down. Luckily, we weren't hurt badly. We (站起) up quickly and went on. 

During the camping time, I had all kinds of chances and challenges. But I felt I was much more confident than before. Every time I missed my parents, you' ll never imagine how much I wanted to share my(喜悦) and excitements with them. 

The Spring Festival, or Chinese New Year, is one of the most important festivals among Chinese people. The holiday on the first day of Chinese lunar calendar and ends on the 15th day of the same lunar month. The holiday is always because family can have a great time together. On New Year's Eve, Chinese  get together and stay up late to welcome the lunar New Year. We think the tradition of going to bed late on New Year's Eve, or  keeping awake the whole night and morning can add on to the families' prosperity(繁荣). Also, the elderly will give hongbao to children  the Chinese New Year's celebrations. They hope that the younger generations will be able to go through the coming year safe and sound. 

The wind blew through Jennifer's hair. The red sun was going down. She was on the 1 , looking up at the orange sky peacefully. Although she didn't feel happy these days, this place with flying seagulls(海鸥) made her 2 .

How to spend a meaningful summer holiday?

Summer holiday is a time to explore the world around you and make lasting memories. So here are some tips to help you have a meaningful holiday. 

Make a list of things you want to do.

List all the things you have wished for a long time. Then spend your holiday doing them. For example, if you' ve always wanted to raise a pet, you can give it a try during your holiday. Having a list will provide you with lots of ideas.

Keep people who are important to you in mind. You don't want to keep yourself so busy that you have no time to catch up with them. Set aside time that is just for family and friends. 

Nothing surprises a family more than a teenager who can cook. You can ask community centres in your area to find out something about cooking classes. 

Travelling is a common summer activity. Start a blog and write about your trips. A good blog will bring your readers with you. Share it with your friends and they can be a part of your adventures. 

Bike riding is one of the best ways to exercise. Going bike riding can not only be a great activity but also bring lots of fun. You can make the activity interesting by going a bit further, but you must remember to ride it carefully.

Many people like to travel when they have time off from school or work. They might go back to their hometown to see their family, or travel somewhere far. But not everyone does this. More and more people are choosing to take a"staycation". 

A staycation is a new word for a period of time when people stay at home on vacation or take day trips from their home to local places of interest. Some people might travel around their city, visiting local parks and museums. Others might try countryside trips and take part in local festivals. People like me love to just stay at home. 

I had a staycation of my own over the summer. I slept late every day. I worked on music and played video games. I wasn't too lonely(孤独的). I had my cat to play with, and I got together with some of my friends around the city. 

Travelling is fun, but it's also nice to just stay at home and relax. It's cheaper as well and I don't have to pay for travel. And you can choose to do whatever you like, or if you want, just do nothing. There's nothing wrong with that. 

Sadie watched her teammates move around in front of her. Her unhappiness showed in her basketball playing. She hoped she didn't argue with her brother this morning about the game. "Richie, what is so important that you can't be at the game? Am I not important to you anymore?" Sadie asked. 

Richie was all of Sadie's world, and they both loved basketball. Sadie loved to play before her accident, and Richie taught her to play basketball on the wheelchair(轮椅) again. Together they would play basketball all day long. 

But these days, Richie liked to hang out with his new high school friends. "Sadie, your brother loves you. Even though he has new friends now, he is always there just like before, " Mum said. But Sadie still felt sad. 

"Look, Sadie!" one of her teammates shouted. Sadie looked up and found Richie walking to her with some purple and white flowers in his hand. 

"Flowers? But we' re losing. How do you know we' re going to win?" she asked. 

"I don't, " Richie said. "It's not important. I only know that you're like a whirlwind when you play basketball. Everyone is surprised at your speed(速度). I will never miss my little sister's big game! It's great to have a lot of new friends, but I came to know that you' re my best friend. "

Sadie smiled. Those words were more important to her than"I'm sorry". With her brother watching the game, Sadie made the first shot(投篮) for the team in the game. 

In children's eyes, their mother is perfect. In my mind, my mother is good at doing everything except cooking. I still remember what happened on my father's birthday when I was young. 

For the important day, I made a birthday card and prepared a beautiful song as my gift. And my mother made a special plan. She did some cleaning early in the morning. Then she began to cook a big meal. Three hours later, we were so hungry, but there were only two dishes on the table—a salad and a roast duck. We all wanted to have the roast duck as soon as possible because it was our favourite. Unluckily, it looked terrible in colour and tasted bad! I complained(抱怨) and only ate a little. However, my father didn't complain at all. Instead, he ate one more piece of the duck and smiled at my mother, "Good taste. I love it! Thank you, dear! It's the best roast duck I have ever had!" Mother smiled happily and said, "Happy birthday, my dear!"

I couldn't understand what my father said and did at that time. I thought he must have a taste problem. Ten years has passed and my father has become a 50-year-old man. He still loves the food my mother cooks, though she hasn't become a good cook yet. As time goes by, I come to know that no one is perfect, including(包括) my mother. Nothing is perfect, including my family. But love can make it different. If there is love, home will become the sweetest place in the world. 

①Do you have a smartphone? How will you feel if someone takes it from you for three weeks? That was the experiment(实验)for 26 students at a school in Colchester, England to find out how living without a phone would make a difference to them. 

②The students were all 14-year-olds at the Stanway School inEssex. They agreed to put their phones in a glass box for three weeks. Researchers from the University of York closely watched them to see if their behaviour(行为) changed over this time. The experiment was filmed for a documentary TV show. The hosts of the show joined the students and they also abandoned their phones. 

③Although there were similar experiments before, Professor LisaHenderson from the University of York said in this experiment, people spent a much longer time without their smartphones. 

④At the end of the experiment, the researchers found that the students had some good influences. On average, they went to bed 30minutes earlier when they didn't have their phones and fell asleep20 minutes faster. This meant they got more rest, and it is important for their feelings, concentration(专注) and physical health. The students were feeling less worried, less upset and they spent more time with their friends and families, and teachers said the students did better in class. 

⑤Overall, the study showed that no smartphones for students could have a good influence on sleep and feelings.

②Yu Jiaxuan, a reporter working in Beijing, had a birthday party with friends at McDonald's. At the party, they played games and felt like kids again. Yu thinks celebrating birthdays this way helps them to express themselves freely. 

③Last October, Li Xinran and her friends started a dress code(着装规范) tradition. Li said, "The dress code helps us look more like a team. We do this to have fun and make great memories. "
