Li Yang

Did you experience an earthquake（地震）? There was a bad earthquake in Mexico City on September 19th, 1984. A lot of buildings  (sudden) fell down, and hundreds of people were in danger. Many people  (sleep) at that time. After the earthquake, 40% of Mexico City was without electricity（电）. It was reported that about 230 people died in the earthquake. 

Lots of people in Mexico City became  (volunteer) to help others. Some people in other areas also offered to help. They tried their best to  (bring) clean water, enough clothes and food to Mexico City. Some doctors and nurses  (begin) to give people medicine and helped people on crowded streets. 

The aftershock（余震）happened  the evening of September 20th. It was the  (strong) aftershock in Mexico. "I told my students two things. First, we should protect (we), because it is not a game.  . we should get ready for everything in time. " said Adelina, a teacher of the Morelos Middle School.  all the buildings in the school were broken, everyone was safe. Because both the students and the teachers had learned some life-saving skills, they quickly ran out of the buildings. 

Zhou Huosheng is a famous teacher. He passed away at the age of 88 on February 14th, 2022. He is famous for his much help with Project Hope. It was started to stop the poor children from dropping out of school. He got lots of prizes for this. 

When he heard of Project Hope in 1993, he gave away 1, 000 yuan for the first time. At that time, his monthly salary（月薪）for his job was about 100 yuan. So he had to think about how to continue helping those poor children for a long time. At last, he got the idea of selling books. He always carried books that weighed more than 10 kilos, although he was just over 40 kilos. 

In 1995, Zhou visited the Hope Primary School in the mountains of Jinzhai, Anhui for the first time, after travelling over 600 kilometres by train, by bus and on foot. In the following years, he went there 100times with donations（捐赠物）. On May 18th, 2018, Zhou finished his 100th journey. "As long as I can move, I am looking forward to the 101st and 102nd journeys. "

However, he couldn't make the trip again because of his bad health. Zhou has given away about 500, 000yuan, and changed over 1, 300 students' lives. 

What a great teacher!

When I was 12 years old, I went with my dad to his workplace - - - a car washroom. I was looking around and I saw a poor woman with a child in her arms standing outside the washroom.  My father went out and asked the woman to come into the washroom. He gave her some water and then asked her what was wrong. 

She lost her husband several months ago.  She did some hard work to make some money to take care of her daughter. But she was sick for the last three days and couldn't go to work.  While□she was telling this story to my father, she was so sad that she couldn't stop crying again. My father and I were deeply moved by her story. 

We got some food for her and her baby to eat. My father then took them to the nearest hospital. On the way, we bought her lots of food from the market. My father gave her some money before we left. 

It is eight years later, but that event is still so fresh in my mind. Since then, I have decided to try and walk a similar path and serve others. 

We spent this holiday with our uncle. He loved to go on walks to collect stones. One day, he bought us backpacks and asked us to go to the mountain with him, and carry the stones. The whole day we walked around. Every now and then he put stones in our bags. To our surprise, he also took some stones out from our bags. But we thought he had just found better stones. 

When we returned to the house, we were very tired. The backpacks were so heavy that we felt relaxed when we put them down. Yet our uncle's backpack was half empty. 

" Why did you put so many stones into our backpacks?" we asked. 

"I didn't, you did, " he said. " you didn't know it, but I gave you a test today. I listened to every word you said. Whenever you were complaining（抱怨）, I added a stone to your bags. Whenever you talked about something with positive（积极地）thinking, I took out a stone. And now look at your backpacks. " Our backpacks were full of stones. " Your negative（消极的）thoughts are like stones. You carry them in your mind just like those stones in a backpack. The more negative thoughts you have, the heavier your mind will be. "

With great love, our uncle taught us one of the most important lessons in life.
