"Are you okay?" I asked and felt the blood rushing to my head, my heart was beating fast. My brother Matthew, who had just got his  (driver) licence and drove me to the sand of California, was also covered in sand. 

a little girl, I often wondered if Matthew and I would ever have friendship. When Matthew found out he was going to have a baby brother, he was over the moon. But to everyone's  (surprising), "It's a girl!" He was really disappointed. 

As soon as I could walk, my big brother was everything to me, he was my idol. But to him, I was an annoyance (令人厌烦的事物), though he found great fun in playing tricks me. 

But the relationship between brother and sister is special, and it's often the  (long) relationship we have in our whole lives. 

Years later, I lost my favorite game. Matthew unexpectedly visited me. When I(find) by him, I had been crying for a long time. He comforted me and we had long talk. He learned about my dream for being the best player in tennis and how I wished to win. After that,  had dinner and I got courage from his humorous and hopeful words. Since then, my big brother had become my best friend, and I saw him（different), not the one who make fun of me, but my rock.

The cute look and soft feel of Jellycat toys （尤其）bring joy and comfort to customers of all ages. Toy designer Sun Meng, 34 years old , （相信）that some customers find certain value in toys as a comfort, while others look for fun and （创造力）. No matter what the reason is, toys offer something for everyone. Social media platforms is now creating communities around classic toys and games, and is  （连接）kidults with others who share their interests. 

it doesn't mean being naive (幼稚的), （而是）, toys are a way to return to simpler times in the face of adult challenges . "I'm proud of being a kidult because it helps me keep a much (young) mindset (心态) and reduce the heavy pressures of being an adult, "said Wang. 

 "Rock, paper and scissors" is a typical game which gave us memories in our childhood. It is said that people played it 2, 000 years ago in China. Today, people play it  the world. In Indonesia, it's known as "ant, person, elephant". People in Singapore play "bird, stone, water". People use different hand in different countries. But the instruction of the game is the same all over the world. 

Many people think "rock, paper, scissors" is all luck. But the game is not accidental. A 2014 study in China  two key ways people played. The fact is that the winner always repeat his winning hand gestures. 

So what's the best way to win this game? Expert players not only think about their next move, but also what their players' next move might be. 

On a winter Sunday, good for skiing（滑雪）, Sue arrived at their holiday hotel with joy. Mark, another skier, fell over Sue's skis. Before Sue could say sorry, Mike 1 , "Your skis are in the way. You've got big smelly feet!" Because of his words, Sue went past him without saying anything. Mark lost face and was 2 .

Reasons to Learn English

Learning English can be fun. For many students, it isn't much fun. However, we think that's just a problem of how you learn English. Take time to have fun learning English by listening to music, watching a movie in English. There's no excuse not to enjoy yourself, even if you have to learn grammar. 

Learning English will help you understand the world through a different language. Understanding the world through a different language will also help you view the world from a different perspective(视角). 

Being able to communicate in English can help you reach out and discover new information. It can help you help the other people in your family who don't speak English. Just imagine yourself on a trip and you are responsible for communicating with others in English. Your family will be very proud. 

There are twelve tenses in English, and this is not the case in many other languages. By learning English you will have a strong sense of when something happens because of the English language's use of time expressions. 

How do you learn English?

At many events around the world, fireworks shows are being replaced with large numbers of drones (无人机) that create wonderful scenes in the night sky. 

Why are drone shows becoming popular? Some think it's a passing fad. But supporters say that they will take the place of fireworks for sure, because fireworks are bad for people, animals and the environment and that it's time for a change. 

Bill Bateman, a professor of life sciences, notes the "terrible" influence of fireworks—It may scare birds from nests, trouble other animals with their sudden light and noise, and even influence animal breeding (繁殖). 

"The sounds and flashes of light lead to the startle response (惊恐反应) in animals, causing their pain and even deaths. Young animals, for example, have been recorded jumping from their nest because of the loud noises, even if they cannot fly. "Bateman explains. 

There are also plenty of other health reasons to avoid fireworks. The U. S. recorded 9, 700 injuries and eight deaths from fireworks in 2023 alone—most because of the wrong use. And also, around 18% of all fireworks on the market in 2023 didn't meet safety standards, putting even experienced players at risk. 

The reasons to cancel fireworks shows seem clear, but are drone shows the solution? These shows still create light pollution. Drones can also collide (相撞) with wildlife in the air. Some research shows that animals don't like drones in their homes. 

But we still don't know much about how drones will influence the environment and animals. For now, drone shows seem to be better for the environment. But I think, since drones can be used again and again, they are a better choice than traditional fireworks. 

"Thank you for your email. I have left to work for my dream of knitting (钩编) sweaters for penguins in Antarctica and no longer work for the School. I will be out of office . . . until my penguin friends are happy. " This is part of an email received by a Chinese student studying in the UK from her teacher. The email has recently gone popular online. 

You may find this email surprising, but knitting sweaters for penguins is a real act of kindness. The idea was started by an organization in Australia. 

The project began because a serious oil spill（油气泄露） near Phillip Island in the late 1990s. During that time, the number and health of baby penguins dropped rapidly. When little penguins became covered in oil, they tried to clean their body with their beaks (喙), but eating the oil could be fatal. The oil also hurt their feathers(羽毛）, making it difficult for them to swim or hunt for food. 

To solve this problem, the organization asked knitters around the world to make sweaters for affected（受感染的）penguins. These sweaters could keep the penguins warm during the cleaning process and stop them from eating the oil. 

The method has been helpful. In 2001, another oil spill happened near Phillip Island. Thanks to the sweaters, 96 percent of the affected penguins were successfully saved. 

However, some people have questioned the idea of animals wearing human-made clothing. Bird protection groups worry that these sweaters might put more stress on the penguins' bodies. 

The organization explained that the sweaters are only a short-term solution and will not be used when the penguins get well. To make sure the penguins are protected and wearing proper clothes, the organization has provided strict instructions for knitters. For example, the total length of the finished sweater should be no more than 18 cm, the width across the body no more than 12 cm and the width of the bottom opening no more than 11 cm. 

A booking to my hotel came in a few weeks ago, with a note saying that a girl would be travelling with her deaf father, and she wanted to make his trip as comfortable as possible. 

When I know I would be the one to help them check in, I started to prepare for their arrival. And I decided to learn some very basic sign language. 

I greeted the guest in my usual fashion. When I heard the name, I soon realized who was standing in front of me. 

 I had been learning for two weeks to express: "Welcome to Ireland. My sign language is terrible, but please, if you need anything during your stay, just let me know and we will help you. "

I smiled at the father and daughter in front of me. Turning to the father, I greeted him in sign Language and began the bit I had learned for him. His daughter broke down crying and told me I was sweet. But the father just smiled and was so happy. Honestly, seeing his reaction（反应） was enough for me. It was worth the last few weeks of learning sign language. 

Sadly, I wasn't working the day they checked out（退房）, but they left a gift for me, a small box with some chocolates. Inside was a note saying:" Thank you very much for what you did. My father has been in amazing spirits from the time you checked us in and suggested we get you a gift before we left. You have no idea how much this meant to my father and me, and we can't thank you enough. You've made his trip very special with one simple sign. "

I cried for as long as five minutes when I came into work the next day and found this gift.
