What makes a child want to become a scientist? For 10-year-old Jane Goodall, it was her wish to live with 1 . With that dream in mind, she spent her life as a friend to chimpanzees(黑猩猩). On 1 October 2025, she passed away at the age of 91.

Goodall began studying chimpanzees in Africa at 26. To better learn about their lives, she sat for hours near these wild animals. She named chimps and found they are much like humans: they make and use 2 ; they feel happy, sad or scared; they show love and sometimes violence (暴力). Thanks to her findings, we now see chimps as 3 and social animals.

Goodall did all she could to 4 chimps and other animals. She wrote books, set up help groups and gave speeches worldwide. In 1977, she started the Jane Goodall Institute, which works to protect chimpanzees, wildlife (野生动物) and the 5 .

When I was a child, I never helped with housework. One evening, I saw my parents come back tired after work but still had to cook and clean. I started with simple tasks like sweeping the floor, washing dishes and taking out the rubbish. At first, I made small mistakes——dishes were still oily, and the floor wasn't clean enough. Gradually, I did better and better.

Doing housework teaches me a lot. It improves my life skills and makes me more independent(独立的). , as my efforts(努力) make the family cleaner and warmer. Besides, it gives me a chance to know how hard my parents work, making me value their love more.

 We' ll surely see the difference it makes in our family.

People have been using herbal medicines (草药) for thousands of years.

Do you know, for example, that aspirin (阿司匹林) comes from the bark of the willow trees(柳树)? In the 5th century BC, a Greek doctor, Hippocrates, gave a thing equivalent (相当于)to aspirin to his patients to reduce their pain.

In 1775,a British doctor, William Withering, was not able to treat a patient who had a serious heart problem. However, the patient became better after taking something that a woman had given him. The woman told the doctor that she made the medicine from purple foxgloves (毛地黄).Today, this herbal medicine is still given to people with heart problems because it can make the heart beat more slowly.

Many of the useful herbal medicines can be found in our homes or gardens. Put some lavender (薰衣草) oil beside your bed at night to help you sleep better. Or put the leaves from an aloe (芦荟) plant on your burns or cuts. That will help them to heal (康复). The Egyptian queen, Cleopatra, also used this kind of amazing plant to keep her skin soft and young-looking.

Finally, don't forget the power of garlic. It thins and cleans the blood. It is good for stomach problems and coughs, and it's a natural antiseptic (抗菌剂). So, if you have a cold the next time, try a mixture of garlic, lemon and honey.

During the May Day holiday, Frank visited the Aizhai Scenic Area in Hunan with his parents. It was an exciting three-day trip filled with fantastic experiences.

The family's trip began at Shibadong Village. The village used to be very poor, but now it has become a famous tourist sight. There they saw many beautiful landscapes(景观). At the same time, they were very interested in Miao people's life and culture.

Next, they visited the Aizhai Bridge. Walking on the 1,176- metre- long canyon(峡谷) bridge, Frank felt like he was flying among the clouds. The bridge connected wo sides of the Dehang Canyon. Frank could see dangerous cliffs(悬崖) and beautiful waterfalls. The most amazing sight was the Flowing Yarn Waterfall. It is one of the ten most attractive waterfalls in China. Its water looked like silk falling from the sky. It was wonderful to see the beautiful scenery.

The family arrived at the Jidou Miao Village on the afternoon of 4 May. The rice fields and wooden houses looked like a painting in the sun. To their surprise, the next day was the Siyueba Festival, a very important day for Miao people. Frank got up quite early. He saw lots of Miao people get together at Jidou Miao Village. In traditional clothes, they sang, did the lion dance and gave nice shows. Many visitors couldn't help but join in the fun. Frank and his parents did the same. They felt lucky to celebrate the festival with so many people.

Though the trip ended, it would stay in Frank's memory (记忆) forever.

Once upon a time, there were four brothers.

" I can see farther than anyone," the first brother said. "At the top of that tree, there are five eggs in a nest."

" I am faster than all of you-- l move as quickly as a cat,"  said the second brother. He climbed up, took the eggs quietly, and then put them back. The bird never noticed it.

" I can shoot better than all of you,"  said the third. He then shot a leaf above the nest.

The fourth brother said, " I can sew anything together, even something as soft as that leaf."  In no time, the leaf was as good as new.

Not long after, the king's daughter was taken away by a dragon. The king said whoever brought the princess back could marry her.

The first brother said, " I see her! She is far away, on a rock at sea, with the dragon."  So the brothers sailed to the rock.

The third brother said, " I may hurt the princess if I shoot the dragon. " " Leave it to me,"  said the second brother. 60. He moved as quietly as a mouse and quickly freed the princess.

Suddenly, the dragon began to chase them. The third brother shot it, but its fall broke their ship. Luckily, the fourth brother took his needle and sewed the ship together. Then they sailed home safely.

The happy king asked, " Which of you will marry my daughter?" The brothers began to argue. Each brother believed that he did more than the others. Finally, the king said, " Each of you is as good as the others, but you are much stronger together. Instead, I give half of my kingdom to you as a reward." The brothers were pleased. It was much better to share than to fight.

What is a good friend? Maybe different people have different answers. I have a good friend named Zhou Ming. We like playing soccer very much, but he is  (strong) than me.We are both on our school soccer team. Last month our team had a match against a team from No. 20 Middle School. At first, we didn't do well and felt sorry. But at last we tried our best and (win) the game. We were all  (excite) and hugged each other tightly（紧紧拥抱）. It was really wonderful game.

Make better plans

It's better for you to make a plan before you start to do something. The earlier, the better. You will know what comes first and what comes last.  When changes happen, you can have more time to face them.

You can go around more often. More outdoor activities can keep you relaxed and active. You also need to be kind. "Thank you" can bring a smile to someone's face. Learn to say "sorry" and don't be angry with others.

Find the right friend

A friend may make your life good and he can make your life bad as well, so you have to think twice when you choose a friend. When you get into trouble, he can give you a helping hand.

Never be afraid of failure (失败)

 Even the greatest person failed. We should not be afraid of failure. It is not the end of the road. We must take failure as a way to learn and make ourselves better.

Long ago, when the God first planted a tree in the garden, it was full of energy and kept moving. Then the God pulled the tree out and planted it upside down to make sure it stayed in one place. What's the tree? It's the baobab tree, also called the monkey bread tree, the bottle tree or others. 

The baobab tree is a strange looking tree that grows in Africa and Australia. Just like its name "Bottle Tree", it looks like a large bottle. Some grow as tall as a 16-floor building. During the dry season, these trees are standing there without leaves, and look like trunks (树干) sticking up in the air. But when the rainy season comes, leaves appear and then flowers come out. Later, the flowers can turn into fruit. 

The baobab is called "the tree of life", because it can live longer than 1,000 years old. In the dry land, the baobab tree can pull in and hold 1,000 gallons of water. Thirsty people can drink the water stored in the tree. The fruit, monkey bread, is good to eat. The baobab leaves are a kind of medicine. People can use the bark (树皮) to make paper or cloth. When a baobab gets old, its trunk becomes hollow (空的). An old tree can hold many people. The local people often build their houses inside these trunks. It is such a useful tree. Some people could hardly live without it. 

What great news! On October 30, 2024, China successfully launched (发射) the Shenzhou-19 spaceship. There are three great astronauts in it: Cai Xuze, Song Lingdong and Wang Haoze. Cai Xuze, the group leader, has spaceflight experience before. Song Lingdong and Wang Haoze, the post-90s astronauts, are on their first space trips. Wang is even the first woman spaceflight engineer (工程师) in China.

The astronauts entered the Tiangong space station and met the astronaut team of Shenzhou-18 last Wednesday. They lived and worked together to finish some tasks. The newcomers will stay in the space station for 6 months. There are quite a few important things to do. They will do different experiments (实验), such as space life science and space medicine. Then they need to have spacewalks to put on new special devices (装置) for the the spaceship and plan to give space classes to young students from all over the world.

The success of the Shenzhou-19 mission shows China is doing better in space technology. And behind the success, it is the hard work of Chinese astronauts and scientists. They show us that nothing is too far if we keep reaching for it.
